Unhappy Is 3 lbs good for the first week?

Ok I am a little frustrated when I hear all these big losses in Phase I and I have only lost 3 in the first week. I hear of people losing 5-8 so I am a little down. I was expecting a little more dramatic of a loss.

Any suggestions on how I should go forward with Phase I??

Thanks

I only lost 3-4 in Phase 1. Stick with it and the weight will keep coming off.

I only lost 4 pounds in Phase 1 but I continue to average 2 pounds a week in Phase 2. As long as you are eating on plan, don't worry about it. You may lose less if you have less to lose or if you were eating pretty healthy before you started SB.

SKHerb, don't get discouraged...everyone's weight loss is different. Do you have a lot to lose? If not, it's totally normal for your weightloss to be slow. Just make sure you are drinking a lot of water (at least 8-10 glasses) and eating lots of veggies, and you should be fine!

Thanks for the encouragment girls. I am drinking lot of water. My biggest problem other than craving carbs is eating veggies. Alot of them on the list I do not care for so I prob don't eat as many as some of you.

SKHerb, I feel your pain. I hate most veggies, but I'm eating a lot of them due to a combo of just dealing (hold your nose closed and chew! ) and finding more delicious ways to eat them! Have you tried dipping things in hummus? It hides all sorts of yucky tastes! Also, try bell pepper (especially red) in hummus. Very good! Through a ton of random veggies in a salad. I find I can eat things like broccoli and cauliflower when they are cut up small and under dressing, meat and cheese!

Through together a stir fry with a delicious sauce. Try different sauces on veggies...there is a great Chinese one on broccoli in the SBD cookbook that I actually enjoyed (I didn't have to hold my nose!). I do think, though, that some of it, if you aren't a veggie lover, comes down to the discipline of saying to yourself, "Self, veggies are good for you and you need to eat them!". Then drag yourself by the ear to the table, sit, and eat the darned things! You get the picture. Sometimes, when I'm forcing myself, I let go of my nose and discover, to my amazement, that I'm liking what I'm eating! Then that recipe goes on the list to be made again.

When you are on Phase 2, try the Lemon Couscous in the SBD book. It has a lot of broccoli in it. I tried making it with less broccoli because I wasn't a big fan, but I found that I could not only eat it, but I liked it too! We're having it for dinner on Wed. and I put a note in the margin to add lots of broccoli! My mom would have a heart attack if she saw that.

I hope this helps...checking out the recipe forum for some great ideas.

Skherb -- I replied to your question in the post about losing 9 lbs.

Just to recap, incase you don't see it, everyone will lose at a different rate. That's even if they eat exactly the same thing as another person for an entire week -- it would be different.

You have to find what's right for you, and do that. Three pounds is a great loss, as it means your body is responding to the diet. Slow weight loss is easier to maintain.

I'm a slow loser, and while I would LOVE to lose 9lbs. per week, it's just not a reasonable expectation! So I'm thinking about how I'm going to feel next summer. Maybe it'll take that long, maybe it won't, but I think it means it will stay off longer and be easier to maintain.

Plus... fast weight loss can mean saggy skin, and you do NOT want that!

I've never been a great fan of veggies and when I did actually eat them, I had to smother them with either cheese or salad dressing. Like the other ladies said, you just have to do it. They are good for you and will help you reach your goal.

Don't be discouraged....though I know it is easy to be. I just finished my first week and am down 5...i thought I too would be more, but maybe that's for the first phase. Anyway, just remember to be patient....it took a while to put on the weight so it's going to take some time to lose it. Stick with it. There is a tremendous amount of support to help you along the way. We're here to help you.

Happy dieting!
