Hi - I'm new here and I have a LONG road ahead of me. I have a lot to lose and can't seem to get started. I know what I need to do, and I have a plan, but every day I get up and mess it up by an hour after I'm awake! Maybe if I made some friends who had to lose a lot too (150 lbs) then we could motivate each other. Anybody want to be pals???
Honey you are not alone! All of us here are in the same situation, some of have less to lose and some have more, but wether we have 10 pounds to lose or 200 it is still difficult. There are many wonderful people on this site. Take things one meal at a time, not even one day at a time. Before you put someting in your mouth ask yourself if it is worth the gain, or if something healthy ask how will this bevefit me. Always have a dialog with yourself before you eat. Keep a journal, when tempted to eat run to that journal and write your thoughts and feelings, remove yourself from the area of temptation. Say NO! to those thoughts that are negative and the temptation to overeat. So what kind of plan are you planning to follow. I just wanted to say "hi" and give a few tips, I pray for everyone on this site daily so know that you are cared about and prayed for. Have a blessed day.Tammy
It has been suggested that you should keep a journal. I keep one myself and post it on a web blogging site. You can post it on the 'net or keep it to yourself, however the idea of keeping a diary is a good one and very beneficial. Get support from this site and other "offline" avenues when you need it!
Now as for motivation. When ever you feel a bit down, go and exercise!! Those endorphins will have you feeling good in no time. If you are feeling dejected and ready to give up, just remind yourself of your goals and where you want to be. I myself think "gee, I can't give up yet - I haven't had a chance to see what I'm going to look like and feel like!!"
Good luck!!
Tamara

Hi Gwen,
You've come to the right place for suggestions and support. I've been visiting the site since early this yr. I haven't lost alot of weight but exercise has become a part of my life and for that I'm greatful. If I miss more than a couple of days, I feel it. Now as far as the dieting I am having a lot of trouble.
I have about 100 lbs to lose. I've only lost about 10 and that number has been going up and down by 2 or 3 lbs for the last 3 wks or so. I do good for a few days and then blow it. I think Tammy and Tamara both have good advice. The journalling seems to help everyone. I have a total mental block when it comes to journalling. I have a little note book in my bag and haven't journalled yet. I even changed my signature on 3fc to include a spot to put a smilie for every week of journalling and haven't added one yet. My guess is I don't want to face the reality of what I'm eating. Being a diabetic the journalling would be so beneficial to me and would get me into the habit of jotting down by daily blood sugars which I don't do but should be. I don't have a doctor who shows much interest. Just likes to prescribe more meds and that gets me more depressed. Anyway, there have been a lot of suggestions and I'm trying to get together but haven't yet. I am proud of the exercise and I am part of an exercise challenge to keep me going. I get so depressed about the weight at times that I feel like giving up and the exercise because I figure why bother. But I do think its doing good no matter what. I post alot on the Miscellaneous Clubs under "Alexia's together we can ...." also on Buddy up under "feeling discouraged" or you can pm me. Good luck to you in your efforts. Remember your not alone.
I just wanted to say that the journal is good for keeping a food diary, but it is also good for writing feelings and thoughts. Like if you suddenly get the urge to eat and you are not hungry go and write what you think the reason could be. Another suggestion and this is the one I use, instead of writing dear journal or dear diary journal as if you are writing a letter to a friend, you can even give your journal a name, OR you can write the letter to yourself from yourself, like you would be writing a letter to a best friend, because if you are not your own best friend who else will be? Anyway I wish you success. GOd BLess You.
Tammy, Thank you. Your message made me think back to many yrs ago when I was a very young mother and quite confused. After the baby was asleep and my husband also, I would wake up(never having really slept) and just write all my thoughts, fears, hopes, whatever. Sometimes I think that was what held me together. I had my first child just befored turning 18 and had all three by the time I was 23. Now when I really need to journal( I have many health issues stemming from my severe obesity) I just don't seem to. I keep saying I will and don't. But I keep thinking of it as a food journal. Maybe I should enter my fears, as I have many now. Thank you for reminding me.
So how was your weekend? My hubby and I after not having the best weigh in Saturday morning had a very good weekend as far as our eating was concerned. How often do you weigh yourself? I try and do it once a week, but sometimes I get nuts and do it every day, my husband REFUSES to weigh in more than once a week, he sometimes doesn't even weigh in and I think if I wouldn't get him to he wouldn't do it at all - must be a man thing Anyway good luck. I just wanted to see how you were doing/. God Bless.
welcome to ome of the best places on the internet!!! these ladies have given you great advice. and don't be shy!!! you are welcome to post anywhere and everywhere around here... you'll find a few spots where you feel most comfy, but there's great stuff everywhere.
lots of folks on the 100 pound club are in the same boat as you. [and no, this club is NOT for people who weigh 100 pounds... it's for anyone with a lot to lose]
if i had one thing to add, it'd be to take things in BABY STEPS. one small change that you can make. and stick with it. and after a week or two, when you've gotten used to it, add another. it works!!!!! honest!!!!
Welcome to 3fc!!! You will find the best support here!! I have met wonderful wonderful people who have always helped me along and when I stumble they pick me up and dust me off and then give me a swift kick in the behind and it helps!! Jiffy is absolutely right, take things day by day week by week because otherwise its so easy to become discouraged, I wish you luck!!
Michelle
Had a decent weekend. Was on my own as the dh was away for the weekend. My sons were still home but they are 21,22 & 26 so I don't see them much. I've been keeping up the exercise and have been JOURNALLING for 3 days. It's not as bad as I thought. I'm not journalling all day but in the morning I jot down my exercise and my blood sugar reading and then at night, usually before bed I jot down my food for the day. Haven't really jotted down how I'm feeling but one step at a time. I'm sure if the scale doesn't move significantly by weigh in on friday, I'll have plenty to say. A friend of mine at work keeps a scale in her office and we weigh in on mondays. She's going on vacation saturday so we will weigh in on friday.
So thanks for the motivation. I will certainly try to keep this up and give it a fair shot.
How are you all doing?
Jiff, How the heck are you? I haven't visited WLS thread in a while (not that I don't think about it) Still trying to do this without surgery. But I have met some great people in the last few months who have had big success. It was a long hard road for them, but they are both happier, healthier and more confident. What's better than that? I'm so happy for them and they were both so open and honest about the WLS. Anyway, nice to here from you again.
Well, have a great HUMP day! (take that anyway you want )
Just wanted to see how you two are doing? My husband and I cleaned house today from top to bottom and we are pooped! We did ok with our eating, ate fried fish but not a big serving, we LOVE seafood and GOd has blessed us to live in an area that we can catch it ourselves and we have a freezer of fish, shrimp, crab, frog legs, but the problem is that we love them FRIED!, but we just try and fry it healthy in canola or olive oil and eat a small portion. Anyway girls let me know how you are doing. God Bless both of you.
Hope everyone is well. Had the first weigh in at work with my friend on Monday and was down 2lbs, then weighed in today because she's leaving for vacation tomorrow and was down another 2lbs. My back, hip and leg have been bothering me a lot lately and finally went to the chiropractor today. I have to lay off the WATP for a couple of days at least. I'm bummed because I'm on a roll. But hopefully it will only be a couple of days.
Tammy, your so lucky your husband likes fish. The closest mine comes to fish is a fishstick (except for lobster and crab) I could use a whole week to clean my house. I'm not very organized and living with all guys is such a drag. I kinda just give up. Thank God we don't entertain.
Hello DonnaD. Nice to hear from you. Congratulations on your weight loss and Journaling. I am reading this fantastic book recommended by a nice person on this site. It's called the Thin Books and it's two books in one. The first part deals with overcoming compulsive overeating and the second is 365 days of positive meditations and affirmations. It is great!. I know what you mean about sons not helping out at home, mine is 26 and married and I was hoping he would marry a woman who was his total opposite meaning a clean freak and someone who is careful with money, well as much as I love my daughter in law, she is NOT his opposite, if fact they are both alike. Oh, well. We love seafood and God has blessed us to live in an area where we can catch it ourselves, last night my husband went frogging so that means fresh frog legs. Anyway hang in there, have a blessed weekend and good luck with your next weigh in. GOd BLess.
