WEll after I don't know how long of not being able to get on my computer, I finally got on today. I don't know what my son did, except I think it had to do with him going through the hard drive and deleting "unnecessary" files. Mr. know it all stikes again.
Oh well, catch me up ladies: who is doing what and why and when?
I went for my one month appointment one month late and have lost a total of 52 lbs. I still have so much to go, but I feel great and am working out and moving so much better. everyone at work is so nice, even though I don't think it shows so much yet, they all comment. the clothes are getting loose though. some are still fitting, so I must really have looked like a sausage in them--stuffed. Oh well, the weather is beautiful hear, I have daffodils blooming and my fingers are just itching to buy plants--I promise to plant them thsi year--really!
Welcome back Buffy! I'm itching for spring to come too. I love to smell the mowed grass, and walk barefooted through the yard! Your doing great down 52 lbs! Wow! That is a record. Just think, more to come... I bet your are feeling good, I know I am.
I noticed too that some clothes fit, even after I lost 50 to 60 lbs. Like you I now wonder what I looked like in it before! It is exciting as co workers compliment you!
Just remember you deserve those compliments!
Hello...I am new to this board. I actually found you by doing a search in regards to acid reflux Post-op.
Anyhow, I am 2 weeks post op, and have been dealing with acid reflux DAILY. My question is...did this also happen to you? What did you do about it? HOw long did it take to go away?
I never had heartburn before surgery and now this. I had Open RNY on 3*16*04
Thank you,
Shannon

Reason: to delete email and other personal info
Buffy! It is so good to see you back!!!! You are doing fabulously well!!!!
Shannon! Welcome! Just a note of caution.....don't add your last name to your posts and go back and delete your email mail addy from your post....just as a security precaution!!!
moderator to the rescue!!! shannon: there are spambots EVERYWHERE. so, like peachie said, it's for your own security that we don't allow posts with email addys. same thing with last names.
now, about the heartburn thing. i didn't get it. but i know a few people who did. let me check it out and get back to you. but in the meantime... is it just at night or during the day? if at night, try elevating your head slightly..
Thank you for the caution. I never thought of that.
As for the heartburn...it is all day....every day.
I have heard some ppl have reflux after surgery even though they never had it before
And I've heard it's abnormal and I need to get scoped.
I'm just afraid of getting scoped, and I just want to be as normal as any other gastric bypass patient.
I can't bend over, reach over, lie down, stand up too fast, talk too much...the heartburn shows up.
I'm popping Zantac like candy, and I might see about getting on Prevacid.
But someone told me I'm not suppose to have acid, because that part of my stomach is sectioned off and it's not suppose to 'back up'. That there is something wrong.
Others say they had it for months afterwards.
I'm just confused, and even my doctor is, because I never had reflux until surgery.
It hurts..it sits in my stomach. SOmetimes in the morning when I brush my teeth, I gag and throw up acid.
I already sleep sitting up. I am almost 3 weeks out and had Open RNY.
Other than that...my food doesn't get stuck and I don't have any other problems.
Thanks
Shannon

<sigh> you sound a bit panicky. i absolutely never have heard of this. the ones who've had some heartburn say that it's been temporary, and mostly at night, when they're lying down.
my advice: get scoped. bite the bullet. they knock you out for the scoping. i figure i can survive anything if i'm not awake for it!!!! but also ask yourself this: can i live with this for the rest of my life??? it sounds like you can't. and even more important, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO!!!!!!
call the doc. see a gastroenterologist who has experience with gastric bypass patients. he'll see you quickly.
Shannon, didn't have any problems with acid reflux, but one of my friends who had surgery after me, continues to use prevacid, in fact she was placed on that routinely after surgery. so who knows, like Jiffy says bite the bullet and do the scope. I have heard alot of people who have had it says it causes them no problems.
