Default Anyone here totally addicted to soda????

I'm serious - I cannot stop drinking Dr. Pepper. I CRAVE it. I can never get enough. It's crazy. I feel like I need to try hypnosis or something. I drink about 6-8 a day - usually I've had 3 before 8:30 a.m. It's terrible.

I've quit it many times before, but I can never get past a month at the most -and the first several days I feel like I'm going to lose my mind without it. Honestly, I really need help in kicking this - and I can't taper off, because if I have 1 in a day, I'll have 10, there's no two ways about it.

I'm so angry at myself, because I feel weak and stupid for allowing to have something like soda literally controlling my life/weight. I feel completely out of control. Has anyone else felt like this about a particular food or beverage - if addiction to a drug is worse than this, I can't imagine it...because I WANT to stop drinking Dr. Pepper, but I keep drinking it anyway. Ack! Help!

Wow. I thought I used to drink a lot of soda! But, don't beat yourself up about it! Just gradually wean yourself from Dr. Pepper. Start buying orange juice, water, tea, light lemonade.

I haven't touched a Coke or Pepsi in 2.5 months. I realized that they were empty calories and bad for me. After not having one in a week or two, I found myself not really craving them.

Good luck!

Default I am addicted too!

Soda is the one thing that I can't seem to shake. I know that if I could kick it I would make huge progress in loosing weight. I don't know what the addiction is. I am like you, if I have one I want another. I read somewhere that if you drink soda you gain 9 lbs. a year!

I totally sympathise: I was hopelessly addicted to Red Bull before I started my diet. I was working long hours, late nights, and often it was my only source of energy.

I thought I'd really miss sodas and soft drinks when I went on my diet, until I started drinking mineral/filtered water with a spritz of lemon or lime juice. Now I can't imagine how I convinced myself that I couldn't live without Red Bull or Pepsi. Try it; it might help you kick your addiction.

Just like SeekInnerThinChick said...Why not try Diet Dr. Pepper? That's what I drink if I feel like drinking soda. It only contains sodium, and it tastes pretty darn close! I dropped 30 lbs in a few weeks after I stopped drinking soda, and starting drinking water and diet soda.

a friend sent me this the other day:

Default I am TOTALLY with you on this one!

I LOVE Pepsi or Coke. It is my main weakness and the thing I crave the most. I drink 2 or 3 a day. I've tried switching to diet colas but they're just not the same, KWIM?? I'm trying to get back to drinking only water or green tea, but I've fallen off the wagon so many times. I'm starting WW this Saturday, so I'm trying to prepare myself. Ugh! I have to remember there was a time when I only drank water, and lots of it. And it's so much better for us! (I keep hearing voices in my head, "Have a Coke.....Have a Coke.... "

Anything you find to help wean off the soda, please let me know!

Good luck !

Im not sure what your situation is during the day but if you keep a big bottle of water at your desk at work and then maybe take one can coke with you. As horrible as this sounds (I have no self control) I left my money in my car so I couldnt run to the coke or snack machine at work and only kept healthy things at my desk so I dont have a choice unless I hike the 1/2 mile to my car. If you are a stay at home mom, dont buy them and try to stock your fridge with other drinks like juice and things like that.

Thats funny Linus, at least make a little money off of it right?

I dont think my coke thing is addictive more than its compulsive. I cant go out unless I get a coke. I cant purchase food unless I get a coke but I'll stay at home on the weekends and not go out at all and not have the first craving. Its weird.

Its taken a while to wean myself from Coke and MT Dew, but if you stick with it you will become used to the flavor of diet, and even NOT LIKING the origional! Try to drink ALOT of H2O instead, try it with lemon or lime juice in it for flavor. I only let myself have 1 diet a day, sometimes its hard, but just remember WHY your doing it. Its not to punish yourself, its to REWARD yourself with a healthy body! Good Luck!!
