I've been following the diet faithfully and in the last 2 days I have gained 3 lbs! I'm not sure why or what is going on. It isn't that TOM. I'm about to have a panic attack. I feel deprived and hungry and I don't want to fall off the wagon, but I can't get discouraged like this. I feel like I'm eating less that I should be, but yesterday I did have some spaghetti squash and the day before I had some kashi cereal with huckleberries.
Kashi cereal definitely falls into at least Phase II, as do berries. Spaghetti squash is ok, though, I think.... Have you been following the menu suggestions in the book? Do you have the good carbs/bad carbs book? There are hidden carbs in lots of things, and things that might seem appropriate on Phase I aren't. I would do some researching and drink lots of water!
First off relax, calm down....If your hungryy eat more. on phase 1 you are too eat till full. not eating enough is just as bad as eating too miuch. Your body goes into starvation mode. Drink lots of water and maybe try entering your food on www.fitday.com Just my 2cents.
All good advice!
Now, take a deep breath or two and post a day's menu with amounts because calories DO count. Have you been eating bars or shakes. Kashi and berries are definitely NOT Phase I. Which Phase are you on?
Water weight gain occurs all the time. Keep that in mind, and be sure to drink even more water. When your body sees that it is getting plenty of liquids, it lets the excess water go.
Also, listen to everyone when they say that taking in too little calories is determental! Your body slows down your metabolism when you do that. That's why snacks are important. We need to keep our metabolism reved up. Exercise, such as daily walks, help keep the metabolism up to!
Alot of people recommend weighing only once a week because of fluctuations on a daily basis. (I personally cant just weigh once a week, lol.) Or you can take an average. I wouldnt worry too much. The other day I weighed when I woke up and then after I showered I weighed less. (Maybe I washed off some of those heavy dry skin cells!) Anyways, you cant always be sure that what the scale says is a true weight, depends on alot of circumstances I think.
Thanks for the encouragement..supposed to be on Phase 2
I'm really supposed to be on Phase 2. I've been doing South Beach since Jan. 30th. I have had whole wheat bread probably three times since phase two, kashi just twice and have had huckleberries twice and apples about 6 times. I've decided to try and stick to phase 1 as much as possible just because I want to see results and it hasn't been too hard. I'm amazed at how much my appetite for sugar and junk has been curbed.
Anyway, after finishing a horrible day at work my husband took me out to dinner...something I've been afraid to do because willpower is a real issue with me. Anyway, I had some lobster tail, tasted his prime rib, had steamed veggies, good green salad and water. I splurged huge by eating a dinner roll. It was pretty dang good. But, it's OK. I feel like I was OK and I really needed the break tonight. Tomorrow I'm back on the wagon and exercising. Somehow I need to learn to be able to eat healthy and not become consummed by the diet plan.
The water thing is a big one - keep drinking the water.
I find that I gain four pounds if I turn the scales through 90 degrees.....and if I move them on to the carpet I lose 7. So how about that?
When I eat certain foods I seem to gain, and I am sure it is a water thing.
At first I refused to have scales in the house as I know what it does to me to see a gain like that. But for various reasons (involving someone else and about which I remain rather resentful............. ) we now have scales in the house and I am obsessively weighing several times a day, moving the scales from here to there to there.
Go by how your clothes fit. Drink the water. Eat until you are satisfied and no more (or less), and have snacks. You will lose weight.
I have heard alot the starvation mode, someone mentioned! If you don't eat enough calories sometimes your body thinks it is starving and it holds on to everything you put in your mouth! I am not sure if this is what is happening to you, but it is possible! Just make sure if you add more calories, they are good ones that are allowed Hope this helps!

Be sure you're eating every time you fele hungry. During the first week I feel like I had been eating WAY too much, and it took me 4 days before I lost a single lb, but by the end of the week I had lost more! Be sure you're not sending your body into starvation mode and of course there is the annoying water weight gain that some of us sadly get (every month! ). Keep going, don't weigh yourself more than once a week and at the same time of day. Before you know it, the lbs will melt away!
