Jiff, at least you have and excuse! I woke up today, left to get gas before I went to the health club, and ever contractor in the city of Dallas decided to fill up their truck before the started their week, so I had to wait in line forever, then the pumps were extremely slow, then there was a wreck on the highway and I was caught in traffic. So 45 minutes later I finally make it to the health club and realize I don't have time to walk and do water aerobics both, and since Mom was there waiting for me to walk, I didn't do water aerobics. I thought about waiting until the 10:00 class and doing it, but immediately threw that idea out. So I went and got a hair cut! (can't get to work too early or they might start expecting it!)
I owe Pookie an apology, and to the rest of of you I have to confess, I haven't been very faithful with the Oxycise. I did have great intentions, and have done it some, but not enought to give a good report. I promise, I'll do better this week.
Hi Barb, No apology necessary. I have been doing Oxycise but I am concerned that I am not breathing in and out as deeply as required. I do it as best as I can. For some reason it also takes me so much longer than it should. The lady on the tape says you should do the 30 reps in 15 mins, but it takes me way longer than 15 mins.
I have also been doing the gazelle. I am only at 15 mins and trying to increase my time on there.
I have also brought some very light hand weights and I am just dipping my toe in that pool.
P.S. Tonight my sister and I are going to attend the monthly meeting of the folks who have already had WLS. That is one of the pre-op requirements and I am very interested to see what they will all have to say tonight.
I am also thinking about DIXIE and hoping she is out of operating room by now.
Me? Yell At Jiff???? Never! (afraid of that dog of hers ) Hope you're feeling better, chickie!

sooo let me live vicariously!!!!
what are you doing for exercise???
Ever hear the saying: “be careful what you wish for”? Well, Ms. Jiff, here’s what WE did/are doing for exercise today, since you’re living vicariously through me. First, WE threw on our sweats and running shoes at 6:00 AM and ran 2 miles and walked some more (did you like the Tom Petty medley that WE listened to?), then WE did a leg workout. WE started with some leg press and went up to 4 plates on a side and did a killer drop set, then WE did hack squats, and then WE grabbed some 15# dumbbells and did lunges around the track and finished off with extensions, curls and squats on the half ball. My legs are shot — how about yours?
But — WE’RE not done yet (‘cause at least I feel guilty about not doing cardio this weekend when I was out of town) — so WE’RE going back later to do a half-hour on the elliptical after we do the grocery shopping. I know it’s your favorite so WE’LL have a blast!
oh geez.. that dog would just jump in your lap!!!!!
and on what planet does a 2-mile run followed by a walk NOT count as cardio?????? and yes, i DID enjoy the tom petty... one of my faves!!!!
as for all those leg exercises WE did... i'm amazed that WE have so much cartilage!!!!! and no wonder OUR legs are tired!!! thanks for all that hard work!!!!
and no pretzels today. none yesterday. none saturday. 8 of the small pretzels on friday.
in fact, i'm just plain not interested in food <who IS this person who's taken over my body?????> i did manage some leftover shrimp with veggies [and hot sauce because i can't taste a thing!!!] and a couple of tablespoons of brown rice.
and a deviled egg and some cheese and those cute little multigrain melba toast rounds.
Jiff -- what happens when an 85 pound dog "just jumps in your lap" ... do you end up on the floor? Can you breathe? Or do you just sit very still and say "nice doggie" until it jumps down ....
Not to worry, my sweet Jiff, running/walking counts as part of our cardio for the day -- WE just wanted to do a bit extra. I thought your knees held up pretty well on our run -- after all, I was huffing and puffing to keep up with YOU the whole time, you speed demon, you!
But didja notice when WE poked at our formerly flubby thighs today that they feel pretty solid? Pretty cool, eh?
you say, in your VERY sternest voice: OFF. and then you shove. HARD. and then you make her sit and then lie down. then you push her onto her back so that she realizes who the boss is.
and then she jumps in the lap of your 81 year old mother with alzheimers, who accuses you of animal cruelty!!!!
and whew!!!! just wanted to be sure we were on the same page.
as for tomorrow... i'm not going to work. i have an important meeting in the morning, and then i'm coming home and going to bed. supposed to work with the trainer tomorrow night, and i'll do it if i feel up to it.
but darlin. i feel LOUSY!!!!!
and as long as we're poking at the OUTSIDE of our thighs, they feel nice and solid. that inner flabby shar pei thing has got to go!!!!
I've been going for walks 2-5 miles 2 times a week and the gazelle 20 mins
2 times a week. Weather her is been rainy sp on the bad days it's the gazelle.
I'm still pre-op, but time is going fast ,many mixed feelings. Lap RNY 3/18
So. San Francisco Kaiser
Well since I'm back, I might as well just jump in. lol. Today I will have gone up 100 steps and down 100 steps. I have class and have to climb 5 flights of steps twice. So. I that is usually most of my work out on tuesdays.
I had a serious talk with my trainer today, I've been doing this 2x a week for about 6 months now, and can't see any improvement at all. He says I'm getting so much stronger, well that's well and good, but I want results I can SEE After reading about what all Meg is doing, I think I'll check out her LWL thread when I have a chance. He's telling me I need more aerobics, but I'm afraid I disagree whit him, I think I do enought aerobics.but him being a land trainer, he doesn't think the water aerobics do anything! Anyway we agreed to change things up for the next 10 sessions and see if anything else happens. Of course, if I start back with my Oxycise like I plan to, I won't know it it's the training or the Oxycise that works, Will I? At this point, I don't care what it is that works, just as long as something works!
barb... it's great that you can talk so openly with your trainer... let me tell you what i discovered. after i tore the meniscus last time [that was nasty!!!!} the ONLY thing i could do was water aerobics. and i had to sit on the noodles because even bouncing in the water was extremely painful. and as much fun as the whole thing was, it really wasn't enough for me. didn't get a raised heart rate. i felt good, but not, hmmm what's the term.. maybe it's that i didn't feel exercised...
when i could get back to land, i started on the bike. and that worked much better. raised heart rate., a little sweat. it felt right.
and that was strange for me because i LOVE the water. maybe adding laps to the water aerobics would be a possibility for you?
keep trying, darlin...
and i'm still not moving much. i'm feeling a little better, but not great. it's nap time, in fact.
Jif,
Sounds like you deserve that nap. I think that good-for-nuttin sister of yours should come on over with some homemade chicken soup and take care of you. I would if I was there!
