Good morning all!

Carla - congratulations on getting your workouts in again last week!

I did not make it to my meeting on Saturday. I just couldn't get up at 7:00 because I ended up going to bed after one. I did OK during the day - and even measured the Chinese takeout we ended up having for dinner BUT I had a terribly PMS snacky sweet/salty kind of evening to the point of starting with 35 FP's and ending with 14! So, this is a target points kind of week and I plan on sticking to it. PMS should end some time this week - at least I hope so! I walked on the treadmill yesterday but I think this week is going to be upper body/yoga only. My hip was bothering me yesterday and if I have a shot at working out next weekend at the conference, I pretty much have to stay off it this week - not great for AP's but there you go!

I have school tonight and tomorrow night so I figure I'll take a rest day today and maybe tomorrow (unless I can get up earlier tomorrow morning). It looks like there's a good chance of a snow day mid-week - things are supposed to start tomorrow afternoon - I may even miss my evening class (she says, fingers crossed)

Have a great one!

Good morning Judy! I'm right there with you about snacky... I used about 9 FP's yesterday.. I was craving salty so I had some pistachios at about 8:30... but I followed them with about 32 ounces of water.. hehe.. it made it feel not as bad!

I only lost 1 lb this past week.. but Friday and Saturday didn't help it.. Saturday I was co-host to a baby shower with a brunch involved.. cheesy grits casserole, ham and egg and cheese casserole, sausage egg and cheese casserole... fruit w/ fruit dip... I didn't eat much of anything.. just a taste.. then we had pizza for dinner. Oh well, I still didn't go over on FP's but I felt aweful.. but this is a new week... My breakfast consisted of a bowl of Special K Vanilla and Almond cereal and I'm working on my water as I type.

Believe it or not we are hearing talks of a significant snow event here in Birmingham.. snow in Alabama.. they will be paralyized.. but, me being originally from New York state, know how to drive in it and that bread and milk are not the only things you need..

Anyway, have a great week everyone!!

Hi all.

Judy - Sorry to hear about the snack attack on Saturday. I was right there with you, though. I started the day with 27 flex points and ended it with 8. We really didn't have dinner and I just kind of grazed all night. But hey, congrats on measuring the Chinese food and on counting up the snack points. It could have been a lot worse. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your hip feels better by the weekend. Are you going to a fitness conference?

Paragoddess - Congratulations on your loss. It may seem like only one pound, but those one pounds add up. it sounds like you handled your challenges well, at least point wise. It's funny how quickly eating poorly makes you feel yucky after you're used to eating better for awhile. That cereal sounds great - I love both vanilla and almond. How many points is it? Wow - snow in Alabama. I hope it doesn't paralyze the city too much.

Well, after my grazing episode on Saturday, I had a much better Sunday. My MIL didn't come to church with us, so there was no restaurant lunch to grapple with, which helped. I managed to end up the day at my target points. I would really like to end the week tomorrow without using my remaining flex points, or any activity points, but I'm not going to pledge not to use them, because I always seem to get in trouble when I do that. I had a good sneek peak this morning, which has given my momentum some oomph. I did my 35 minutes on the bike today. The "feel good" effect is really kicking in after I exercise and it's really becoming a habit, which is a good thing. I need some good habits to replace all the bad ones I cultivated over the years. :-) It's still cold and snowy here, so walking is still out of the picture and it will be the bike for awhile. I least I seem to be making my peace with it.

Have a great day.

Carla

Paragoddess – It’s nice to know I had company on the snack attack ;-) Congratulations on the pound lost – I try never to say only one pound – they add up and after all, a long journey is made up of small steps! Good for you for not eating all those casseroles! I know what you mean about no longer feeling well physically after eating things I’m no longer used to. I once was sick for a whole night after having a fried fish dinner. We are going to have a significant snow event here – I guess it’s pretty rare for you. When was the last time you had one?

Carla – I’m so glad to hear that you are firmly in the workout habit! It’s going to remain cold here and it’s expected to get very snowy tonight. They are talking about 6+ inches! Yes, I’m supposed to be going to a fitness conference on Saturday (although the workouts are Sunday) in Philly. Tony and I are driving down and staying in Philly Sat. night and then go to AC on Sunday mid-afternoon.

I had a very so-so night yesterday. It started off OK but I snacked a bit in the evening. Not many FP’s left for the week. PMS is still firmly entrenched. I hope I can pull out a maintain this week. My sneak peek was awful this morning but we had ff hotdogs last night with sauerkraut and pickles last night so I know a lot of it is water. I managed to get up early today and did a short yoga workout - #18 for the month – just 2 more this week to make my 20 per month guideline. I’m pretty sure tomorrow will be a snow day so I plan on doing some upper body strength work and maybe some yoga. The hip is so-so and I want to really keep off it so I have a chance of working out this weekend. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that grad school is called off for tonight. The snow is supposed to start around rush hour (my class is at 4:40) and it could make for a nasty ride home around 6:30.

Have a great one!

Good Morning

Judy - sorry to hear you've been struggling with snack attacks. PMS really sucks, doesn't it? I'm sure your sneak peak yesterday was related to the pickles and sauerkraut. I'll keep for a safe journey home for you tonight in the snow.

Paragoddess - One pound is GREAT! If you lose one pound a week for a year, that's fifty two pounds - Judy is right, they add up. Sounds like you did very well at the shower...southern cooking can take its toll!

Carla - I'm thrilled to hear you say that exercise is becoming a habit! That's the best news of the week! I hope I'll be able to say the same thing soon!

I'm still really not feeling terrific. I think I'm quite run down from my sinus infection, and on Sunday I spent the day in bed with apparent food poisoning. We went to a birthday party on Saturday and something I ate wreaked havoc with me for 24 hours. I was still feeling generally lousy yesterday. So I think I'll write off the month of January as Judy and Carla wisely recommended and look to February for the start of exercise in a constructive way. I've been walking the dogs at a snail's pace, and while it's movement, it hardly counts.

Hope you have a great day!

Karen

Hi all.

Judy - Sorry to hear that you're still dealing with "snackiness". I think it's safe to say that the bad sneak peek you saw is a direct result of the hot dogs, saurkraut and pickles. Although it all sounds yummy. I have to remember to pick up some ff hot dogs - good for dinner when I don't feel like cooking. We're snowy here too. I'd say we got a good couple of inches last night on top of the 2-3 inches we got Sunday into Monday. And it's still snowing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your class tonight is called off. Your weekend in Philly sounds like fun.

Karen - Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry to hear that you're still not feeling much better. Food poisoning on top of everything else - you poor thing. Are you back at work or still homebound? I'm glad to hear that you're readjusting your exercise goal and tanking January. Better to start fresh and look forward rather than try to catch up. I'm sure once you're able to get started, you find your groove and we'll both join Judy as exercise nuts. In the meantime, good for you for getting out with the dogs. Any movement is better than no movement.

I got up early this morning to do my 35 minutes on the bike. I was finding that between the workout and the late shower, I wasn't getting as much done during the day as I liked, so I'm going to try to make exercise an early morning event as much as I possibly can. Of course today the time I gained by working out early went toward shoveling snow. Oh well, it earned me a couple more activity points. I managed to end my day yesterday at target and without using any activity or flex points. I'm going to shoot for no flex points today as well, although I might use a couple of activity points. My good sneek peek is holding steady and I really want it to carry through to my official weigh-in tomorrow. I really enjoyed being out in the fresh air today, so I may try to do a walk instead of the stationary bike tomorrow. I'm a block away from a cemetary and I know the paths there will be plowed. If the sidewalks to the cemetary are clear, I may just go for it.

Have a great day.

Carla

Carla - sounds like your plan is working well! I'm proud of you for doing the bike.. shoveling snow is probably more aerobically challenging sometime though! Good luck at weigh in and keep us informed!

Carla - I'm back at work. Dragging my carcass a bit, but don't want to use sick time for the 3rd week in a row. I may ask for a few days vacation soon. Hope your able to get out for your walk.

Hi all,

Paragoddess - Yep, shoveling can certainly be more of a workout than the stationary bike. Fortunately, yesterday's stuff was light and fluffy and my husband did most of the work. Did Birmingham end up getting the snow that was predicted?

Karen - It's not easy being at work when you're still under the weather, but I can understand about not wanting to use more sick days. Taking some vacation days sounds like a good idea. Do something nice for yourself too, like a facial or a manicure. Something to perk up your day a bit.

I am very pleased with my weigh-in today - 3.8 pounds gone! Of course, I'm re-treading ground that was lost over the holidays, but I'll be in new territory soon. No bike today - I had a bad night's sleep and couldn't drag myself out of bed early this morning. And I have a lot of catching up to do around the house (the holidays did me in in more ways than one), so I decided I would take an exercise break today. Back at it tomorrow for sure, though.

Have a great day.

CeCe- No snow yet... theres now talks of maybe the middle of next week.. it's a waiting game.

3.8 lbs gone is fantastic!! Keep up the good work!

Karen - I hope you feel better... I can't think of anything worse than being sick at work.. Get you some hot chicken soup and get a good book at night and soon you'll be feeling back up to par!

Karen - I'm so sorry that after that terrible sinus infection had you feeling lousy for so long, you went to a party and ate something that made you feel awful. I think writing off the month of January is a smart move. It can be tough making up workouts especially if you are starting off in a weakened state. I think taking a couple of days to help regain your strength is a very good idea - great idea of Carla's too. going for a "be good to me" facial or manicure! Yeah, PMS really sucks - I hope it's over soon but my luck, I'll get TOM over my weekend away! Thanks for those crossed fingers. They did not cancel classes and the professor was ticked off at the admin too. As we were finishing up the class, it really started to sleet. I drove home VERRRRRYYYYY slowly and all went well but it was pretty stressful.

Carla - Fabulous loss!!!!!! Hey, re-treading ground lost over the holidays is what I'm doing too but what's important in that we are going in the right direction! Sorry to hear that you didn't sleep well last night - sounds like a rest day is certainly in order! I know what you mean about catching up around the house - I did some of that myself too (yeah, snow days!)

Paragoddess - glad to hear that you escaped the snow. We didn't but that's OK - it sure was nice to fall back asleep after the 5:30 am call saying that school was closed!

I had a pretty good day yesterday although I think the stress of the drive home from class didn't help my after-dinner snacking. The weather reports when I got home were for a little less snow than they originally said and for a while I was wondering if we were going to have a snow day. We ended up with about 8-9 inches but there was a layer of ice to start - I was very glad I didn't have to drive anywhere today. I did some snow shoveling earlier and a short Pilates beginner workout so even though I only have a couple of FP's left, I earned a few AP's. We're having a WW "Easy Cheese" veggie lasagna tonight - yummy and after doing a bunch of school work, I'm allowing myself a "good for me" glass of wine!

Have a great one!

Hi all.

Paragoddess - I'll keep my fingers crossed that the snow doesn't hit Birmingham.

Judy - I'm glad you made it home safe and sound the other night. Driving in that stuff is the worst. Eight to nine inches is a whole lot of snow, that's for sure. I'm glad we haven't had that much at once, but on the other hand these constant flurries that keep the roads mucky aren't much fun either. How's your hip doing?

I had an ok day yesterday. I ended up using some flex points, which really shouldn't make me feel as bad as it does. Anyway, it was just a few, so I have plenty left. I need to conserve them as we are going to my mom's on Saturday and possibly going out to eat. I did my bike ride this morning. I didn't much feel like doing it, but I made myself and I'm glad. I didn't want to fall behind on this week's workouts. And it's always good to have a few activity points in your back pocket if you need them. I've resigned myself to working out on the bike the rest of this week. It's only about 2 here now and is supposed to get colder, so no outside activity for me. Going from my car to the grocery store is going to be about it.

Have a great day.

Hi All!

Carla - terrific loss...and good on you for getting on the bike again and getting in your workout! Hope things warm up for you soon so you can get out and about. It's -35 up where we bought our property...one day I'll have to get used to cold weather too. Thanks for the self care suggestion...it reminded me that I have a gift certificate for a pedicure in my wallet. I'll book an appointment for next week.

Judy - Hope you manage to hold on to a flex point or two till Saturday...I'm sure you'll do fine. Sorry to hear of the stress of your drive home, but glad you made it safely. Hope you enjoyed that well earned glass of wine.

Paragoddess - I'm feeling a lot better, thanks! In fact, I feel almost human again. I took the dogs out for a romp before work, and I managed to do laundry, and vacuum after work. I could have left it, but who wants to spend all weekend doing housework??? Not me!

Well...another 1/2 pound loss this week. Coming off by the ounces, but I'll take 1/2 a pound any day over a gain. There was an article in the newspaper today about new research around grapefruit...they did a study where one group ate 1/2 a grapefruit with each meal without dieting, and the control group didn't...the grapefruit eaters lost about 8 lbs over something like a 3 month period. Interesting...too bad I can't stand the taste of grapefruit!!

If I don't get here tomorrow ( and I likely won't), have a great weekend.

Carla – Please try not to feel badly using the FP’s – that’s what they are there for! Now in my case, where I’ve used them and am now in a deficit…. ;-) Way to go on getting on the bike even when you didn’t feel like it. That took a lot of determination and motivation! BTW, sometimes what I will do when I don’t want to work out is tell myself I just have to do 5 or 10 minutes – by then, I usually want to continue…. Good luck over the weekend. My hip is very so-so. It’s definitely muscular and my chiropractor worked on the knots quite a bit yesterday.

Karen – way to go on the loss – hey, ounces work too – they all add up. I like grapefruit but I don’t know if I still would if I had a ½ with every meal ;-)

I had a terrible night last night – I know part of it is still bad PMS – TOM is nowhere on the horizon. I had a ton of lf Triscuits with cheese – and I’m about 15 FP’s in deficit and all that salt has made my rings tight and my sneak peek awful. I’m sure the fact that the last two nights I had a glass of wine hasn’t helped my resolve not to snack at night. I’m going to see how I feel tomorrow morning to decide if I weigh in or not. I know I should go and face the music but I want to leave for Philly at 9:00 am – and unless I can pack everything tonight, it will be a big rush to get there weigh in and get home – I won’t be able to stay for the meeting. I guess I’ll see how I feel. In any case, I’m planning on doing a Pilates tape when I get home and I am determined to have a better week next week whether TOM finally gets here or not!

Have a great weekend!
