Default Lou Lou Belle is on the Beach!

Hello everyone! I just started the SB diet today. I was on the Atkins diet and did well, however, because of my cholestrol history, my doctor wanted me off Atkins. I went off, gained 6 pounds--no more! So, as a compromise...I started SB. It seems like a much more doctor friendly diet.

My only concern is that I am not following the meal plans in Phase I, I am using them only as a guide. I chose my meals from the food lists...is that okay? I do not have a lot to lose, only 15-20 pounds, but I have struggled with my weight most of my life. My family has a strong history of heart disease and diabeties, so it is very important to get healthy.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

p.s. I have been lurking for a while, so I am familiar with some your names.

Hi LouLou!! Welcome!! I never used the meal plans in the book, just chose foods from the acceptable list. I think the meals/recipes are just suggestions. Good luck!!

Welcome, Lou Lou! Most of us DON'T use the menus. Like Gavinsmom said, we pick and choose from the list.

Welcome to The Beach, Lou Lou. Your doc will love this diet too. It's nice to have had the bloodwork done so you now can see how this eating plan affects your next test.

Hi Lou Lou, I'm new, too, but ain't it fun here! Everyone is so nice.

I don't use the menus, either. But I have been TRYING to use some of the recipes. I especially liked the quiche cups- even I could handle them. I'm going to try them again this week- but maybe beefing up the recipe just a bit. You might like them if you've got busy mornings.

I'm sure we'll find ourselves stretched out neighboring towels, asking all the pros how exactly we get to the skinny part of the beach! LOL.

See you on the sand.

Hi Lou Lou Belle,

I'm not using a menu or many of the recipes either. I tend to go a lot with raw vegetables or slices of LF turkey or ham for breakfast and lunch. In the evening, I'll have a lean meat, chicken or turkey and some vegetables on the side. I like it that I don't have to measure and weigh every little thing. I track what I eat on a site I saw recommended,

P.S. Can I use html next time so that the website shows up as a link?
I mean: <a href="http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Home.asp">Fit Day</a>

Welcome Lou Lou... I'm new here as well.

I'm in the adjustment phase, and use some of the receipes from the book, but don't follow the meal plan outlined. Still in the process of buying/gathering the oils/spices, etc. called for in receipes. I live alone and cook for 1, because my Scottie has her own food.

Looking forward to having a fully stocked SBD kitchen with ingredients for all the receipes.... except a little skitterish about the flax seed thing.. but will see if they can be purchased in small quantities. (Not a requirement, many receipes use flax seed/oil).

Thanks for the encouragement and congrats! I cannot wait to finish Phase I. I was on Atkins for 6 months and I am dying to bite into a nice crisp Apple now and then!

I don't miss the apple as much as I miss drinking the juice. That and sweet tea will be my hardest ones. Especially when I eat out cause a lot of places have nasty tasting water. I'm a very picky person I guess you might say. Or atleast my DH does. Stay in it!

Hi Bamiegurl,
Are you from Alabama? I lived there for awile growing up. My dad was in the army so we were at Fort McClellan. Just wanted to let you know that I order water with extra lemons when we eat out. A little lemon and some equal or whatever they might have makes the water taste so much better. Hey it's lemonade for free. Can't beat that. I have also heard that a little lemon in your water is a good thing to do when dieting. I hope so cause it works for me.
