Default Chitter Chatter - Friday, Janaury 16

Chitter chatter because it's darn cold in here again!

The good news is that I finally got a great night of sleep - went to bed at 10 and woke at 6:40 rather than several times from 3 a.m. onward. I don't know what was different except I had a mug of warm skim milk before bed to treat my heartburn problem.

I'm off to crank up the day because Gail comes this morning. I switched her morning because of Kevin and guess what? Kevin is still not finished (been too cold the past two days) and wanted to come this morning. I said a big NO and he says "Monday fer sure!" Karen comes this afternoon for rehearsal of our duologue so I need to get at lines.

By the way, the SW didn't make it yesterday. She had a bad earache so rebooked for Tuesday next. It sure suited me as I went for a lovely long nap in the afternoon.

Have to go and get heat going before I freeze to the keyboard!

Good Morning Ruth!! Glad you were able to get a goodnight's sleep for a change, now good luck keeping warm!!!
I went to the Ramping 1-2-3 workshop last weekend at the Y and have been watching/doing the tape this week. Actual classes dont begin until Feb 10 and will be Mondays and Wednesdays for 5 weeks. I really dislike step classes but I'm in love w/ the ramp!
My kids are out of school today and Monday, so the gym is out for me until next Tuesday. In the meantime I have been eating like mad for the past two days!!!! Not happy about that at all but hey, it was my choice. Theres a chance I may even teach a Ramping class this fall or substitute over the summer so why am I am screwing w/ my progress? UGH!!!! I will keep a water bottle by my side today. Water is my friend!!
I hope all of you have a great day!!

Traci, I'm sorry you've been eating so much lately. I'd say it was the cold weather, but...
Drink water, girl!!

Ruth, I'm SO glad you got a good sleep last night. It was probably the milk. It drugged you.
I know other (warmer) people are sick of hearing about this, but I've just about HAD it with this weather. No, I HAVE had it! Not quite sure what to do about it, though.

Ellis, I am not sick of hearing about the weather, although I understand that it must be overwhelmingly difficult to contend with when it goes on for so long. Sounds like the ice storm might be something I really would not want to be around for with all the power out for so long. I saw that Sigorney Weaver film too (how depressing was that).
Now you might think I dont even need heating in my house when it is 9 degrees C outside but really it feels chilly here too, and my heating is making a dreadful noise. 'Hammer pipes' I am told it is called - you get the picture.

I got all my taxes finished yesterday, finally, so I am feeling pleased with myself. I now feel as if I can start on the rest of the neglected pile of admin here. I am not very good at getting paperwork done. I completely love this new desk. It has one of those slidey in and out bits for my keyboard, which is cleverly disguised as a drawer. I love it. When I was a child, I always wanted clothes with pockets - mum would buy or make me something and all I was interested in was 'does it have pockets?'. I used to keep my hands in them and therefore drag the shape of the garment out (I still do that actually.... ). So having lots of drawers and hidden bits is a bit like that.

Guests tonight are getting a chili to eat. I am doing chili (which I dont much like), to serve in choice of lettuce leaves or taco shells (I can have the lettuce), and also an option of chicken and red pepper fajitas again, to serve in lettuce or bread. Then to go with all the usual cheese (ultra low fat, but I dont much like it) FF yoghurt to replace the sour cream, avocado/guacamole, and I will make a sort of salsa with lime juice and stuff. Does anyone know the GI of rhubarb? I was thinking I might stew some (beautiful, pink, new season) with some splenda. It is not phase one appropriate (although I am wondering about this because on WW you can have rhubarb as a 'free veg' - it is the only fruit to be unlimited - and I am wondering if that is because the sugar content is very low??? I know it is not in the main book. I am lying to myself arn't I? I am seduced by those frail, beautiful, pale pink fragrant stems. Rhubarb is only good this early in the year - it makes February worth enduring.)

I got a parking ticket last night and it's not fair. I am going to contest it. There was a notice on the machine saying 'out of order' when I parked and it said 'park free and check every two hours'. It was 5pm and the parking charges only run to 6.30 anyway. So I got back at 8pm to find the ticket. Huh! They fixed the machine at 5.15 it seems. But the notice specifically said 'two hours' so I think I dont have to pay. So there.

Ruth, I would like a homemaker. I would get them to do the laundry ( ). You could get the old pots out maybe and ask her to give them a good clean (the roasting pans etc). I am not really horrible, but I have taken against this dog-hater on your behalf. Her earache is divine retribution .

I saw the play you are in last year. Fantastic stuff. It had Rula Lenska in, and Miriam Margoles (she played the herbology mistriss in the last Harry Potter), and I think Jenny Eclaire. I dont know if any of those actresses have international profiles. They were wonderful, and the material was incredible. Funny, moving, empowering, inspiring. Wonderful. I offered to take my mum but sadly she said she thought it was not her sort of thing - I was disappointed by that - I think she heard about the audience shouting bit.

What is ramping Traci? I have not heard of that. I always fancied doing a step class but want to get a bit lighter and fitter first as my local classes are not as 'open access' as they claim to be (in my experience).

A Frosty Good Mornin' to you all!
13 below 0 this morning here...schools are closed & the windows of my office are frozen solid...I feel like I'm sitting on the inside of an icecube! Kinda gives the view a misty impressionist look tho...lovely!
Just wanted to say a quick hello...and start the day.
I am going to weigh myself this afternoon for the 1st time in a week...I'm a little nervous...but hey, any loss is good!
Good to hear about your good night's sleep Ruth...that is always such a treat to wake up & realize you slept thru the whole night! (Even I get up to tinkle a few times a night! I hate that!)
Well, I'm off like a prom dress!

GOOD MORNING!!!!

I know I said I was not going to weigh myself for a week when I started this diet, but I can't help myself....I am getting on the scales every morning! I am on day 5 and have already lost 8lbs!!!! I am loving this!! I know it will slow down drastically, but right now... !

Ruth - glad you got some sleep, and keep warm!

Gavinsmom - what is ramping? It sounds interesting.

Ellis - don't know what to say about your weather situation, never experienced that kind of cold before...brrrrr....

It is a colder today, in the 50's with some rain. I have to drop Evan off at MDO and then will run some errands. I have decided to paint the boys bathroom this weekend, so I am off for some paint and they need a new shower curtain.

I need to hop in the shower, the maid comes this morning and I like to at least be showered by the time she gets here.

Take it easy ladies!!!

Here is a description of ramping taken from a fitness article that was copied for me:

Ramping 1-2-3 is a new group cardio program that is easy and fun. It involves simple pressing and lunging against an adjustable inclined surface, focusing on the rear muscles/lower body (gluts and hamstring).
The moves are much simpler and easier than stepping but when you add the optional arm work you can make the workout more intense, so there is alot of flexibility.
"Ramping provides a quieter, gentler group cardiovascular workout options for the ready-to-be-fit excerciser."

Description from the YMCA:

Ramping 1,2,3, Low impact, easy-to-learn cardio workout designed for all fitness levels. Works the hips, gluteus & hamstrings by using the dynamic low-stress impact provided by a RAMP! This class is for everyone.

It's really good for someone who has never participated in group aerobics or is just starting out in cardio. Once you feel confident w/ Ramping 1-2-3 you can advance to the next level called "Ramping Up". I walk almost daily and have begun to run as well but I find this does give me a good workout. (BTW, I tried the stepclass and absolutely hated it! lol)

Wow! My ISP was down this morning for a bit so I'm just back now.
I notice I spelled January wrong. I guess I was too rested!

Clovey, definitely go for rhubarb - it is about the same as celery so no problem. Just because it's not on the list does not mean it shouldn't be. It's actually a vegetable but we think of it as a fruit because we sweeten it. NOW - enough talk about rhubarb! Mine won't be ready until mid-May!

Chaz, congratulations on the loss! That is terrific!

Ellis, you are right - this weather is terrible! I am usually pretty warm but am dressing in layers these days! The woodstove was packed with wood when I went to bed but was just ash this morning - of course I did get up "late".

"Off like a prom dress" Good one, January!

Gavinsmom, thanks for the explanation about ramping. I'd been meaning to ask.

Kevin was around this morning to apologize for not showing and also to pick up a partial cheque. He claims he will be here first thing Monday morning.

I switched the Karen/Ruth rehearsal to Monday afternoon because I just NEED an afternoon with nobody extra in the house. It seems as if there is always someone here or on the phone and I am getting a wee bit stressed! (Between 9 and 10 this morning, Gail came, Kevin came, Ruby called to ask me to get her mail, Denise called to see if I'd had a 'flu shot and the SW called to change the time of her appointment with me!) When I feel like yelling "Leave me alone for frass sake!", I know it's time to take major ME time.

So I am going to turn on the heater in my sewingroom and spend the afternoon in there listening to the CBC - unless I have a nap! I may not even go out of the house today! (Kevin filled the woodbox so that's done!)

Have a super Friday and try to work in some ME time.

Little Chick and Whimsey - you two snuck in on me!
Good going Whimsey! It's so nice to see the scale move in the right direction.
Little Chick, is a it a snow day or a cold day? How cold is a cold day down there? We are willing to send either eastward any time! Good work staying OP despite stress.

Default I'm so depressed

I lost 40 pounds for the year 0f 2003. My goal was for 50 pounds, however I started on the sweets during the holidays,so I didn't make my goal. I thought after the new year, I 'd get real serious on SBD, plus bump up my biking and walking.
Well, my younger brother passed away during Christmas week and even though it was very hard for our family we got through it. Then I got so sick with the flu I couldn't get out of bed. We had plans to go to a camping grounds with a few friends and I started feeling better,so Jan. 2nd, I went for a bike ride and fell off and cracked my knee cap. If I stay off my leg it may heel on it's own. That's for six weeks, not being active. Now my DH is doing a good job taking care of me and doing the best he can do with the house, however he is clueless about a diet. Needless to say I've put on 8 pounds in two weeks. I'm going to dust off my SBD book today and I made out a shopping list to get what I need and I'm going to try to get this together starting Monday. I need so much help ad support from you all, books and my laptop is the only thing I can handle at this time.
Thank you for listening to me whine, but I've about had it.

Would love to here from you,
Chris

Good morning everyone. I thought I'd chime in on the "chat" thread today instead of just lurking and laughing at everyone's antics.

Chris40 I am so sorry to hear about your loss and your injury. Only time will heal your hurt from both.

I actually got up and exercised today, and then I made one of those protein shakes that's in the recipe section, I used vanilla flavored whey protein powder, 1 pkt. of Splenda, and 1/8 tsp. of sugar-free raspberry jell-o. Mmmm it is good. I only used 1 scoop of the powder though cause it was a huge scoop and that is expensive!

I wanted to take my dog out for a walk, but my temp gauge says 28F, and I don't want to freeze my poor puppy! He's just a baby!

Talk at ya later! - Jennie
