Jenn, nice to see you popping in. I am the one who lives in the midwest, Kansas to be exact. We are about 11 or 12 miles from Wichita. WTG on you ladies having a GREAT week!

Robin, glad to hear it wasn't anything too serious with Zach. Just the mention of the emergency room scares me. I have seen that commercial and when I saw the kid lick the phone I thought that is just disgusting. But then the other kid took the gum and OMG, I died! That was even more gross. Do you think kids really do that stuff? I did enjoy going hunting with my son even though we had just had a big snow and we were trudging along in about 4 inches of it. I did get a work-out that week. I was totally exhausted. Now this may sound dumb but I mainly went so he wouldn't have to go alone, I had no intention of killing anything and didn't know how I would react if he had killed one. It kills me to see them dead on the side of the road. I was hoping he would have gotten one. We saw only a few and they were too far away to even attempt to shoot. I did enjoy the days we spent together out in the freezing cold though, we actually had fun. It is something I definitely would do again.

Dip, someone must have had a good time last night! I hope you get rid of that Enjoy your company and the Colts game today!

I went to mass this morning and then came home, changed clothes and was off to the park for a 3-mile walk. It is actually nice today. The bank clock said it was 48 but the wind isn't blowing to bad and the sun is shining. Other than that nothing much going on in my neck of the woods.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday! See you ladies tomorrow.

I forgot, I am posting my weight in my signature and this time I am going to just have to deal with it. It WILL stay there this time, no matter how embarrassed I am.

Hi Everybody!

I'm feeling a little better now but tired. We really had a good time, sang karoke (sp?), and danced like crazy my legs actually hurt today. We grilled steaks with red potatoes and corn from our garden and it was yummy. Everyone is gone except my son and he's vegged in front of the tv. As soon as he leaves, I'm gonna hit the treadmill.

Robin, glad to hear Zach is better. I hate that commercial too, and no I don't think kids really do that stuff. But from raising a boy I know they need to wash their hands more often.

Oh yeah, about you Bambi killers. LOL. When I first moved down to the country, we lived on the edge of a State Park. You would not have believed my horror seeing pickup trucks with dead deer. Also, the gun shooting was new. I had to accept that this is a way of life in the country and the deer was food. I still fear I am going to hit one with my car some day. I have come too close too many times. Funny story: We have a friend who hit a deer with his van and demolished the van. So he leaves the van, gets to a phone, we pick him up and take him home. He gets his mother's Cadillac to go back and get something out of the van, and hits another deer in almost the same place, about 2 hours later, demolishing the Cadillac. One of those funny but not tales.

Cristi - Sorry to hear about that car repair bill, ouch! What was wrong with it? I agree, everything costs so much these days.

Good job on the challege this week, and let's give 'em heck this week! I guess we *did* do just slightly better. I didn't take the last 3 of their reports into consideration, other than the 1 pound gain wiped out the 2 gals who had 1/2 pound losses.

Hope everyone has a nice evening, and I'll *see* you tomorrow!

Best,

dip

Happy Monday Morning!

Last night while thumbing through the Dec. issue of the Oprah Mag, I found this Q&A by Dr. David Katz, Page 158. I hope it will clarify the great scale mystery-

Q - I weigh myself every morning at the exact same time before I have consumed anything. Some days, I'm 2 or 3 pounds heavier than the previous day. Is it possible that I can gain this much weight in one day?

A - The answer depends entirely what you mean by weight. Sure, you can fluctuate by 2 or 3 pounds from day to day, but not because you've gained or lost that much body fat. To gain a pound of fat requires taking in 3,500 to 4,000 calories (and to lose a pound requires a deficit of the same magnatude.) The only way you can put on 3 pounds of fat in one day would be to eat roughly 12,000 more calories than you need which is usually enough food for an entire week. The pounds that appear and disappear so quickly on the scale are due to factors like water weight, which goes up and down constantly depending on how hydrated you are, and the amount of food in your GI tract at any one time. So don't rely on daily weighing. Focus instead on healthy living, and look to the scale only once a month (once a week if you are trying to lose weight) for the occasional reality check.

Even with that advice, I don't know if I can break the daily morning weighing habit, but I'll try. I've known the above about the scale for years, but my AM obsession helps me stay focused each day. It's like a reminder first thing that I have changed my life and not to let the old bad habits creep back in. Same for looking at the smaller clothes and trying on the pantsometer from time to time. These are just external tools that help my internal dialogue to stay focused on what this is for me. When I do the tri-cardio workout, or burn 600 calories on the treadmill, it tells me I am getting healthier and have more stamina. When I increase the weights when I lift, it tells me my muscles are growing and I'm stronger. When I put my groceries up on the check-out belt, and see I have mostly fresh and unprocessed foods, it tells me I'm getting stronger against the wills of the advertising agencies and sugar. And when I show a slight gain on the scale, I know it's either water OR I have taken in too many calories the previous few days. I think using Fitday.com is also the best external tool I use to keep calories, carbs, protein and fat intake in check. Since I eat mostly high-protein, it's especially helpful for watching the fat intake that goes with high-pro naturally. (If you use Fitday, please take the time to customize your food by the labels.)

OK! that said, ahem. Goals for this week are same as they've been-

Stick to workout schedule

Eat Clean and plan food intake on Fitday first thing in the AM

Start and finish at least one household project. I stink at time management, and will make a concerted effort this week to pace myself, and try to get more done.

Did you see Suzanne's new sticky about how many pounds have we shed since joining 3FC? I think to show how much 3FC has been a benefit to us, we should definitely keep that in mind as we go through this challenge to show the 3FC sisters and the world what it means to us. So ladies, start your metabollic engines, and let's lose!

Have a great day! Check back later. . .

Dip, thanks a bunch for posting the info about the scales. I, too am a daily weigher. It will either make or break me for the day. If it is good, I am really motivated to do well that day, too. If it is bad, I sometimes say "what the heck, I have blown it anyway" and fudge that day. Maybe I should try to stop that habit. What do you think? This week I have been up a pound. I don't know why, unless it is all the bad stuff from the previous 2 weeks that is just showing up.

Well, Hi to everyone! Hope your week is starting great!

Robin, I would stay off the scale but for once a week if it were effecting me negatively. Those 1 or 2# gains are more than likely water retention. Same happens with body fat if you eat less than 1200 calories a day and allow your body to go into starvation mode. It will hold on to body fat for energy because it thinks it's not going to be fed properly again. From what I've read, it's about the worst thing you can do to your metabolism.

You may have been deceiving/sabotaging yourself with those small gain days. Just my 2 cents.

Good Evening Ladies.

It sounds like it might be a good thing that I don't have a scale in the house. My bathroom is just to small and there really is no extra space to fit it in. I really don't miss it though. I just run over to visit my parents and weigh myself there.

Dip thankyou so much for directing me to fitday what a great website that is also. You are a great source of information.

Cristi glad that you had a good time with your son. The exercise is just an added bonus.

Robin you are going to be so busy with your new purchases that you probably won't have time to fudge up your days any more. You are doing great and I can't wait when I can have such successful numbers after my name.

Has anyone seen the new mentos gum commercial where the boyfriend is waiting for his girlfriend to dress and he is sitting on the couch with some type of drooly dog and he blows on the dog after he puts the gum in his mouth and the dog starts making out with the guy? It is enough to make anyone sick. Its almost worse than the kids chewing already chewed gum.

Well I must run.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Happy Tuesday Ladies! Look at the new smilies they've added! What Fun!

First of all, Thank A Vet. And if you are one, or currently serving, Thank You! for your sacrifice and the job you do. Also, thank you to the families of our military for their sacrifices.

Well, we overslept by an hour this morning, but it felt good. Just puts me behind a bit.

Most of what I've learned about this journey has come from the Ladies Who Lift, and their direction to some great articles and books. I'm only passing along what I've learned to be true in my experience. There is so much misinformation out there, you really have to be careful what you take to be true. Everybody's body is unique, so taking the time and patience to test things to see how it works for you is the key.

Kathy, Fitday is a great tool even though it takes a little time to learn, but once you do, it's really helpful. Be careful of the "activities" section if you use it. It can be misleading if you enter activities that you do in a normal day, for example, housework. Extra cardio activity is what burns calories and fat for weight loss. You can also enter your own recipes and get the nutrition value per serving. PM me if you'd like to know how.

Yesterday was a good one for me, with food and work-outs right on target. Last night we went to Staples and bought a computer table for here in the office soon to be the real dining room. I had been searching for a corner unit in oak for a few months now, and at a reasonable price. I just couldn't wait any longer because I want to get this room done, so settled for something that will do. DH informed me that he wants this computer back upstairs since it's his "engineering computer" and he will install another down here since I only use it for the Internet. My real computer is upstairs, so I won't have to be totally off line while the transition takes place. So my work for today is cut out for me and I am anxious to get this done. I still have files and drawers to go through, but have no real room to sort and throw.

Well, I better get busy and get my cardio out of the way. Check back later, and I hope you all have a healthy day!

Hi Ladies,

I did read that in O Dip. I don't know how you ladies or anyone weighs everyday. It would drive me I weighed about 3 or 4 times last week and that did it for me. It was like a rollercoaster-too So I am back to weighing only on Friday.

Dip, WTG on getting your dining room back to being a dining room. I did some cleaning yesterday in the dining room among other places. I am not sure why the dining room table ends up being the hold all room. The table always seems to be covered. So that got cleaned and prettied up for Thanksgiving. A little late but better late than never. About my car (mini-van), it was some type of manifold and a bunch of the fluids needed to be flushed. Although, it was costly, it is running like a new car. About the bambi killers-that story is crazy! That would be horrible to wreck two cars in one night. DH hit one a few months ago and while it didn't total his truck, it was over $3000 to get it fixed, not counting the rental car he had to have for a week. Thank goodness for insurance. I too have come close to hitting a few deer, it is scary. I know you are not supposed to swerve to miss them but the thought of hitting one would kill me. Geez, I brake for squirrels!

Cat-too funny! Hope your day gets better.

Kathy, I haven't seen the mentos commercial. They have come out with some funny and gross ones though. There was a time I hated seeing so many commercials but they are getting funny.

Robin, I also love to see a loss and get so frustrated when there is a gain. I got on one day and it said I had gained 4 pounds. The next day the 4 pounds were gone-what! One reason I don't get on more than once a week. I know there is NO way I can gain 4 pounds in one day. For some reason though, last week the scales were calling me and this was a first in a while for me weighing so much in a week. So I weighed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday-and they were all over the place!

Well, my challenge for myself this week is to just work around the house getting organized and work at drinking my water. I didn't get any in yesterday but I am making up for it today. I try to get what I need at least 5 days a week but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Eating and exercising has been good and I am hoping to see a 2 pound loss this week. So, we will see.

Hope EVERYONE is having a great day. TTFN

Hey ladies.

I did not weigh today! I did okay, too. I have not exercised today, but I did not overeat.

We brought 2 of our new horses home today, and I am starting to wonder already....what have I done? They are going to consume a lot of my time (that I already don't have ) Oh well, I a hope they will be worth it. We will probably not try to ride them until this weekend. They need time to settle down.

I can tell we are loving the new smilies, today's posts are so animated.

Please send me some good vibes....I am hopefully having a job interview later this week, and am very interested in the job. I have really "had it" with my current one. I am sick of doing everybody's job for them and being their babysitters when they make more money than me. My boss depends on me way too much for the pay I get!

Anyway, I gotta run. Have a great Wednesday!!!

Hello All

Well I've left the beach for the day as DH cooked today and we had macaroni for lunch and spaghetti for supper. But he cooked so I happily ate. Not lots but.... to carbs. Well we will just start fresh tommorrow.

Robin ... here are your vibes. : Good luck for the job interview and getting a new job. Be confident and they will see the super woman that you are, and that they need you in their company. :
And yes those are 4 perfect white socks.

Dip good luck on all the renovating that you are doing. Here is a over the wires for you that everything goes smoothly. When do you do you fit your exercise into your schedule. Some "experts" say do it first thing in the morning and others say later in the day. I would just think that any is better than none.

Cristi this mentos one brings on a new low for them. And the real gross factor for me is I know what my dogs breath smells like (even after having his teeth cleaned).
You're husband was really lucky when he hit the deer that he didn't total the truck. We live in town but the deer come right into town so you have to be careful driving because you will hit them here. We often have deer in our front yard around midnight as they are wandering. One day I will have to get some pictures.

Well goodnight to all. Have a super Wednesday.

Hey Buddy Buds!

We overslept again this morning, not getting up til 6:20 a far cry from 5AM! So I'm waaaay behind.

Painting the first half of the diningroom today. There are 2 doorsways, one from the entrance hall and one from the kitchen, so I can get by with painting in 2 sections. I could not believe the dust bunnies that had gathered under the computer desk set-up, just one of those huge pieces of furniture you don't move too often. I had to think - it has been 2 years since I took it all apart and cleaned back there. This dismantling of my office is like a final closure to my real estate career. I don't see it as an end, but as a new beginning.

Kathy, I usually do my cardio in the morning. The latest "expert" I've read said to do it in the morning before meal 1 to burn off fat that's already there, not calories you've eaten that day. It's also helpful in getting it out of the way first thing. Since I don't eat breakfast first thing, this routine works for me because when I'm done, I'm really hungry and appreciate the food more. I lift weights M-W-F, alternating between upper and lower body and always crunches, weighted leg lifts and ball exercises. Dr. Phil comes on at 2PM, so I usally do it at 3PM. I would rather do it in the evening, but don't want to alienate DH. Just to fool my body, next week I'll start doing weights in the AM, and cardio in the PM for a few weeks.

Well, lemme off of here, and I'll be back later when I 'break.' I hate to paint, who doesn't, and I want to get this done while I'm in the mood. Have a great day! HI! to everybody.

Oh yeah, I didn't do any significant cardio yesterday. I got on the treadmill and was pretty sore from the weight work-out the day before, so I got off. Food was on track, though I felt something was 'missing.' By evening I was too pooped.
