Talking Monday Morning Munchies at the Beach DAILY 9/15

Hmmmmmm!! What's for snacking??

So many of the newbies are wondering about what they can and should have as a snack.

Let's help them out and tell them our favorites.

Do you look forward to your snack?
Do you eat the same ones?
When do you snack?

A snack can curb the I want impulses.
It tides us over till our meal.
It helps us start a routine that is good for us.

Snacks can be fun, too.
We learn to count Hee hee (for nuts and other limited things)
We have to plan for the snacks.

We learn to be creative then share this creativity with our fellow Beach Beauties.
We learn to read labels.
We then know to go to www.fitday.com and see if we made a good choice.

We learn to listen to our bodies.

SANCKS are our friends. One we have to have, can't do with out and are a part of our life in a GOOD way.

ENJOY your snacks and share your snacking with us..your friends and your favorite Beach Beauties.

Lady Marcie

Grand-Daughter Ellen,

I am thinking of you.
Put a smile on your face.
Have I told you lately that I really like Elmer?

Grandma Marcie

Good morning Grandma Marcie and all you beach beauties!

Snacks, hmmm? Well my new favorite is SF jello made with FF cream cheese (Thanks, Rowen Bailey!). It is smooth (a must lately), sweet, and has at least a BIT of nutritional value!

Back when I could chew I really liked hummus on rounds of cucumber or strips of red pepper, spears of crisp-tender asparagus sprinkled with balsamic vinegar, or some thin sliced ham wrapped around a LF cheese stick and a few cherry tomatoes.

Best snacking tips? Try and match the snack to your craving...sweet, crunchy, salty, smooth, etc. Although you may be craving pretzels, a few nuts are a good stand in! Like everyone else, I do sometimes "grab and go!" But I try and make at least one snack a day a "mini meal." I make a nice snack and try and make it look good, sit at the table, use a REAL plate, etc. I think it helps my brain get the message that this is FOOD and not something to just stuff in my mouth! And eat what you like, or reasonable facsimile of it! Don't force yourself to eat something you detest! EVER! If none of your favorites are on the acceptable list, then find new favorites!

Over in Boot Camp we are starting a weeklong exercise challenge today, so if you need a kick in the pants, stop by!

Have a great day, and make sure you do something nice for your body and a healthy, tasty snack!

Good Morning Beach Beauties!!

Just a quick post this morning before I leave for work....will be back later to check in with everyone.

Want to report my weight loss. I didn't weigh last week due to TOM, but stepped on the scale this morning, and I'm happy to report that I'm down 3.5 pounds in the last two weeks! I had been kind of stuck for a couple of weeks, and decided that I needed to really pay attention to portion sizes as I was really stuffing my face, and I guess it paid off!! I've also started doing the 1 mile WATP tape this past week, which is a major change for this couch potato, so I'm sure that's helping also.

Have a fabulous Monday at the beach ladies, and I'll check in later today to catch up with everyone!!

I made the pine bark from the book this weekend...warning it is very good and very hard to stop eating once you start. I would say that no sugar added fudgesicles are my fav. treat

Yay twodog

I have been munching on the roasted chickpeas from the recipe section. When I get a patch of smooth water, I am going to try for a "sweet" version with Splenda and cinnamon.
Another favourite is that wonderful lLaughing Cow cheese on celery.
I KNOW that having good snacks around keeps me from being dumb!
Happy Monday.

Well, I have mostly been dumb lately! I'm trying to get back on track. My sister and nephew are coming into town on Wednesday which will be FUN but also mean lots of family functions and food. I want to get at LEAST moderately back on track by Wednesday so that I don't just lose it completely while they are here.

Last week I got a bit more motivated work wise and put a few hours in. I need to increase that this week (especially before Wednesday) so that I can take time off once Sis gets here!!

Good morning, ladies! Happy to report I lost one pound this past week (first week of phase two). As for snacks, I have string cheese in the morning, and peanuts in the afternoon. I don't count out 20, I just pour a handful in my hand LOL. If I'm really splurging, I'll have a spoonful of peanut butter, or a fudgesicle, or an apple. (The spoon of PB really got me through the first week!)

I found the coolest thing at Wal-Mart this weekend...Kraft makes Jalepeno mustard and Chipolte mustard. I'm not a big mustard eater (prefer ketchup), but I like spicy brown mustard and I love spicy food. So this was right up my alley! I also found some turkey Italian sausages that look like bratwurst....only 2 carbs and tastes very good!

Oh, I also want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes! I did pretty good, even with those cookies LOL. We went out to dinner and I even stayed on plan!

Fran!
I am so excited that you love the jello....it really does it for me. I make it at least twice a month on a regular basis.

I went out to dinner last night for my Mom's birthday, and I had two glasses of wine (I could have just done one, but I was a little on the stressed side), and then I had a few bites of desert, about about 5 bites, as there was three deserts on the table. They were small bites. The rest of the meal I was very much on plan, grilled halibut, asparagus, chilled tomato soup, a few oysters, and I have leftovers. My weight stayed the same, but I got so ill and shakey from the sugar, my hands we sweaty and shaky on the way home last night, and this morning I woke up feeling like I have a hangover (and believe me two small glasses of wine would not do that to me).

I know that I have a normal blood sugar, but I really feel like I have some kind of issue around sugar. Has anyone else had this experience? I really feel like crap today. Stomach is yuck, head hurts and I have no appetite. Blah!!!

As for snacks, if I am craving some comfort food, I will take some fat free cream cheese, mix it with sweetner, a little bit of lemon extract, some vanilla extract and mix it all up, it takes like a mock cheesecake, it is so easy, I make about two tablespoons of it as a time, and then I eat it slow with a spoon.

Happy Monday!

Default Back from Vacation

Good evening all; Back from our week in North Georgia. We had a wonderful time, and I did get on the scales when I got home. I have to confess that I was not really all that careful while we were away, so was pleasantly surprised to note that I only gained 1.5. I expected it would be more. But we walked everyday on mountain dirt roads, up and down hills, and I think that we probably walked at least 2 to 3 miles each morning. So that helped.

I like the Mozzarella sticks, or a hard boiled egg, or celery with laughing cow cheese, or peanut butter. I like the crunchy kind on celery. I am most always wanting crunch, not sweet.

I know I have missed a lot this week and will try to catch up with everyones' posts.

After watching DR. Phil on Friday nite, my DH has decided that it would be good for him to lose some weight. So we are both starting on Phase one. It will be so much easier for me, as I can cook just one meal, instead of two. Tried the Rosemary Salmon for dinner tonight, and it is yummy.

One of the best things about vacation is coming home to sleep in your own bed.: Lizzie

Marcie and Love, congratulations on your loss!!! Isn't it a wonderful feeling?!!

Ruth, I've been meaning to try those roasted chickpeas, they sound good. Your version with cinnamon sounds yummy!!

Hi Gamergirl, welcome!!! You've definitely come to the right place, you're going to love it here, and you'll love the SBD way of eating!!

Rowan, it sounds like you did wonderfully at your Mom's birthday dinner. Good for you!! I know exactly what you mean about having a sugar hangover, and feeling yucky from eating too much sugar. I am insulin resistant, so my body is kind of screwed up in its sugar-metabolism process, and I feel amazingly good with this WOE, but if I stray and eat sugar, I can most definitely feel it!! The memory of that feeling helps keep me on the right path.

Hi Franny, Sil, Den, Sflake, and Lizzie!!

My favorite snacks are pistachios (which are toooo good, so they are currently banned from my house), sf popsicles, cheese crisps with salsa, and celery with laughing cow cheese.

Hi Ladies,
I'm one of the newbies that has been asking about snacks. I keep forgetting to post on the Daily and have posted on a few other topics on the main chicks on the beach page. If any of you have time, please check through them and send along any info that may be helpful.

This is such a great site. It's really helping to keep me on track.
Kudos to all who are doing so well!

Any chance of having a thread for members posting when they started SBD and where they are at now and any stats they may want to share? I find it very encouraging to hear about the rest of you and how you are handling this WOE and anything else!

TIA

Hi girls!!!

Wow, this thread has become so long it's impossible to post to everyone !!!

Congrats on the two pounds Marcie ... I lost two pounds too when I got on the scale Sunday ... Franny had us get rid of them so last I didn't weigh (plus TOM last week) so I'm not really sure it was two pounds in one week, but I'm happy to take the two pounds even if it was in two weeks!!!

Snacks, snacks ... I try to stay away from nuts because I have little willpower with them ... nsa jello, nsa fudgesicles, celery with Laughing Cow or an apple w/peanut butter (phase II), on occasion 1/2 an Atkins bar, or a flourless peanut butter cookie ... but I think I need to start to limiting the peanut butter as well or portion it out ... some afternoons at work I swear I could eat it like pudding!!!

Rowan, good idea with the fat free cream cheese ... think I'll try that.

Twodog, great job on the 3.5 pounds!!!

Have a great evening!!!
