I am drinking tea right now Today is wfh and that is good because the cold is full blown, I am hoping it gets better as tomorrow I have to give training all day. This afternoon running DD2 to ortho appt.
Hope no one minds but I included the weekend dates in this week's thread. Seems we are a little thin around here some days. (Actually, isn't the point of this forum to BE thin?? lol)
I don't officially have to report to school until Wednesday but I am going in today and tomorrow long enough to get a few things organized. I had a dream a few nights back about arriving late on the first day of school having forgotten my keys, with my computer missing and the desks in a scramble. I am going to make sure THAT doesn't happen!!
I am also really going to focus on staying OP this week and see if I can get the scale to move again. I've been a bit inconsistent lately....At least the weather has been nice and DH and I have been good about walking. Plus I got a little garden time in this weekend so that's exercise.
Hope everyone is doing well. Can't believe we are staring at the end of August!!
Good morning. I sure have been remiss on reporting in as well as posting my boring weightloss trials and tribulations. It was another "foodie" weekend and the scale is up a pound today. (I did make three dozen deviled eggs for the family BBQ yesterday, brought home the 12 leftovers and took them to coffee hour this morning, resisting them all! So there is hope!)
Sad news once again to report as my dear friend Barb died suddenly Saturday night. Once again Bruce is being my rock. I wonder who will die in September?
I have menus planned for the week - all healthy and lower carb except for the bread, potatoes, rice and corn for the Parson. He is pressuring me to make home-baked cookies instead of buying store-bought ones. (At Saturday.'s BBQ event, he had a piece of my Bacardi rum cake - a mistake because he now has sampled my baking!)
Lovely day today. We plan to run down to Brockville. Bruce must visit an old parishioner who is in palliative care but I don't know the family so have opted out and will do some minor shopping - drugstore and Staples stuff plus a quickie tip to Bulk Barn for some healthy things like bran for muffins. (I sound so virtuous!)
I'm new to this forum, literally the metaphorical ink in still drying. I have a question for you veteran South Beach Lifestyler's. I have 60 lbs to loose, Im just completing my 1st week in phase 1. I have not found it very difficult to follow or obey. I am considering staying at Phase 1 until I've lost 30 lbs., half my desired weight lose. Are there any draw backs to this plan? Anything I should be aware of before perusing this plan? Am I overlooking sonething?

Morning, chicks. I've been out to get groceries and am having a bit more coffee while I figure out what is next for today. I may make some almond flour muffins for the rest of the week since I am back to work tomorrow.
Creolemouth, Welcome! Generally the recommendation is to do Phase I for a max of 3-4 weeks. That being said, I think most of the old timers here do a modification of Phase 2. Dr A's book claims you can work up to 2-3 daily servings of fruit and grains but I think I can safely say nobody here does that. Personally, I eat 1 serving of bread per day at the most, and many days none and I don't eat white rice, flour or potatoes. I eat berries and the occasional apple, but little other fruit. My advice would be that it depends on how you feel and if you get bored with eating the same items, and I would suggest adding in things like sweet potatoes and squash and maybe some grains like quinoa or oats. Feel free to ask any questions you have or post menus for feedback.
Off to putter in the kitchen. Have a great day, chicks!
I had to run into work today to give training. Hasn't been too bad, I took medicine and have cough drops and kleenex. Still op the scale has slowed down so hopefully will get a dip down soon.
Beth the summer went by so fast, crazy. Muffins sounds good I might have to make some.
Welcome Creolemouth, I will second what Beth said, most of us follow what we like to call Phase 1.5 after completing Phase 1 for a couple of weeks. I would recommend moving to 1.5 and just adding a few items in and as long as the scale is moving your good.
Welcome Creolemouth! I ditto what the others have said. I hope you join in with us regularly! My best success has been checking in every day.
It has been a busy morning. We are meeting at the cemetery at 1 PM, just an hour away. We will lay my mother to rest. Just my brother, sister and I. My brother is all packed because he has a 5:30 PM flight out of Denver. We accomplished all we could this week and ordered a headstone yesterday. Now the next thing will just be to plan for the memorial which is 16 September. It's raining just a bit. Not much but sprinkles. I hope it stays off for another two hours.
Pearlrose I think I got your cold!!!! First one in years and it came on fast!!!!
Debbie I am glad your brother and sister are with you.
Ruth sorry to hear about Barb.
Beth your dream made me laugh!!!
The weekend flew by. I over did it with too much car time, but did exceed my steps everyday. I started feeling really run down yesterday. Not to mention TOM arrived twice in the last 2 weeks!!! Hormones ugh!!! I was up this morning, but mainly from Chinese food last night. I always crave it when I don't feel well. I have a long week at work with an extra shift and a night on call. Food this week will be OP which I know will help.
My son was so incredibly appreciative this weekend. I loved when he introduced me to his buddies. It's funny they all seem so happy. It was an absolute pleasure chatting with them. When I said good bye to my son, mind you in front of the sergeant (no tears had my big girl pants on), my son asked me to text him when I got home. NEVER has he asked me to do that!!!! He told me if he gets deployed, he is ready and not to worry!!! Fortunately he still has Airborn training in October, but the reality is there. He looks great and enjoyed his mama spoiling him lol.
Have a great night.....I think I am going to start a weightloss goal thread for September. We haven't had one in awhile.
Thanks for the great advise. Phase 1.5 sounds like a good place to land once I complete Phase 1. I planned to avoid unnecessary social functions during phase 1 just to be safe but tonight I have a work dinner. I requested a Mexican restaurant because I thought fajitas without tortillas would be a safe restaurant option. I hope I'm right.
Creolemouth....that's what I order. Ask to substitute a vegetable for rice (my favorite place makes great green beans) Refried beans should be ok too. My BF LOVES Mexican food. When I was on P1 we went to our favorite spot. I was so proud of myself resisting the chips and salsa. Was not easy as they are homemade and oh so yummy. I opted for a cup of their black bean soup so I had something to enjoy while he devoured the chips lol.
Morning chicks and welcome back to Jennifer!! I'm off to opening day teacher meetings. Lunch is provided but I already know there will be a salad option for me so I'm set there.
Wfh day for me glad since I am still battling cold, it is slowly getting better. Today DD2 has art after school and then practice. I have a PT appt at lunchtime. Still eating op the scale finally moved down even if only half a lb I will take.
Jekel welcome back, sorry you are battling a cold as well. Glad you had a great time with your DS
Beth good luck with the new school year
Ruth sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, glad you have Bruce.
Debbie glad you had your brother and sister with you.
Good morning! Feels like fall here this a.m. I have turned on the furnace and am sitting in a fleece robe until the house warms up. Coffee has helped.
Life continues its crazy pace but I think today may be better. Bruce will be taking a run with donations for the thrift shop this morning and has his music jam session all afternoon, giving me some alone time to get niggles done. (We sat over coffee this morning and checked the calendar looking for a space to hit the road for a wee vacation/honeymoon. Then we called and cancelled several things on the schedule to free the time. We're planning a driving vacation through Quebec to Gaspe on the East coast - should be fun. Now to make it happen.)
Been doing lots of off-plan cooking these days but avoiding eating off-plan stuff. Unfortunately a lot of folk gave us restaurant gift cards - no expiry date but we do feel compelled to use them. Sure is tricky to stay on-plan when eating out for free. We are going to start taking people out for dinner soon. My friend Barb's widower will be the first - this weekend, we hope.
Time to crank up the day and ensure that I accomplish more than cleaning my teeth and the kitchen and getting dressed.
I am giving training all day today but have a few minutes before it starts so figured I would hop on and say Hi, I have hit that stage where the scale doesn't want to move but this time I am sticking to the food plan and know that in will eventually start moving again. Cold is almost better now just have the annoying cough, tickle in your throat.
Tonight DD2 has practice and that is it on the agenda.
Ruth that sounds like a fun road trip when do you think you will be able to do?
Beth you inspired me to make some healthy muffins for breakfast as well. I think I need to freeze some of them.
