  • Greetings and happy holidays friends!

I'm setting up our 2017 thread early as I know once the holidays truly arrive my check-ins become more sporadic. There's still over a week remaining in 2016 so keep those miles coming. Finish

A little background to this challenge if you're new to this thread: I've borrowed this thread idea from the wonderful Sum38 who started the 1000 miles in 2015 challenge and picked it up from the late Gary who created it. My thanks to Sum and Gary for creating and continuing this wonderful challenge. Honestly, my weight fluctuates and I have not fully committed to getting back into weight-loss mode. I find the goal of reaching 1000 miles inspiring and it is the one challenge I seem to stick with from beginning to end.

So, in keeping with Sum's model, please join me in the challenge to reach 1,000 miles in 2017. All types of exercise are welcome and encouraged . Your own style of check in (daily, weekly, monthly) is equally encouraged. I'm a FitBit wearer so I found weekly and monthly best suited for me. Oh, and don't feel limited by 1,000 miles. Use it as a goal or your baseline; this challenge is all about what you want to accomplish.

    Here's to a great 2017!

  • Yes! I'm in! It's been a really great challenge in 2016, and I'll aim to do even better in 2017.

  • I wasn't in last time, but I am definitely down for this next year!
  • Thank you!!! I will check in monthly.

I am IN. My goal is 2500 miles biking/spinning/elliptical (2200 strides=1 mile) I don't generally walk for fitness, so I am leaving my fitbit walking results out of the equation. I have to average 208 miles/month one way or another.

  • Hi - new to this part of the forum (300 + poster looking around again)
this sounds kind of fun and interesting

I would like to join in and try for the 1000 miles... I'm in NZ so everything here is in Km's ..so guess for me its 1609 km as my start... then to see how far over I can go ...as well as how fast I can get to this...

I'm a Garmin vivofit2 - simply because Garmin vivofit2 was the most affordable waterproof option in my price range at the time
  • I really enjoyed the 2016 challenge and I'm in for 2017. I'm going to try for 1000 miles of biking and walking (hikes/long walks). I also want to count my non-exercise activity for daily living (non-intentional exercise such as walking for daily living throughout the day). I will aim for another 500 miles of non-intentional exercise. My combined total for intentional exercise and daily living miles will be 1500 miles for 2017. I will keep separate tickers for exercise and non-exercise activity as I am curious as to how much I move for daily living.

    Happy new year everyone.
  • Greetings friends!

Yes, come one, come all to the 1,000 mile (or 1609 km for those abroad and who use the metric system ). I'm so happy to have you here and wanting to embark on this challenge with me. I'm inspired how several of you are tweaking it to really make it your own. That's what it's all about.

I love and need this thread. I've accomplished many life goals since taking part in this challenge, and I enter a number of different weight-loss challenges on 3FC each year where I've only had middling success. This is the one challenge I seem to accomplish and keeps me feeling good (for the most part) about myself.

Several years ago I weighed 60 pounds less and turned myself into an avid runner. As often happens, life got in the way and it brought a lot of stress with it. After months of telling myself that I'm getting back into running, I'm making the leap and have entered with a friend a 5K race in February and a 7K Day race in March. These are good and reasonable distances to get back into it and my goal is to do a local 10 miler in May. I've paid for the first two races and if you're anything like me, when you shell out the cash you're more likely to follow through. Anyway, walking has always been my go to exercise and led easily to running once I dropped a goodly number of pounds. It's time to get off my butt and hold myself accountable.

So I'm happy to be here and have great company with me. Let's make 2017 a great year!
  • This is exactly the type of thing I am looking for! I am in. . I am in Canada so I guess it would be 1609km's. I don't have an activity tracker yet but have been wanting to get one so no better time than now.

I'm excited to get started. Thanks!!
  • Nice to see us all raring to go

Curvy, well done on getting signed up for runs! Very impressive

    I've decided I will
Definitely aim for the 1,000 miles
Try my best to make it 2,017 in 2017
Try to add on whatever shortfall of 2,016 in 2016 I end up with.
  • I am in!

I just got a new Fitbit and I'm not sure what my goal will be. I'll start with 1000 miles.
  • Hello Everyone!

Me and my Fitbit One are in!

    Thanks for the thread, Curvy!
  • I am in! I had a hip replacement last summer so running is out, but walking and biking is encouraged.

  • friends!

Whether quietly ringing in the new year, or partying until the dawn, I hope you all had wonderful and safe celebrations. May 2017 be a year of life goals made and achieved and one of peace. I don't know about you, but all last year I seemed to feel out of sorts; not ill, not depressed, just not really feeling like my best self. My personals issues with disorganization are probably a big part of this--but I digress.

Again, thank you all for joining me on the mileage journey. Tabbycat, great to see you! I've had a couple of friends who have had hip replacements and after they healed, they've been as active as ever. Wishing you the same.

    Here's to a fantastic and fit 2017!
  • I'm in!
    1st goal is 1,000 miles
2nd goal is 1642 miles ---which for me is 10,000 steps a day X 365 days.
3rd goal is 2017 mile, that translates to 6 miles per day, whew!

Congratulations to everyone who has made the commitment for the year. I don't need this as much for the warmer half of the year as I am outside and moving. This keeps me going during the colder half of the year when I would love to hibernate if not pushed.

    Let the MILES/km begin
  • Tabbycat - I had a hip replacement too. Mine was 2 years ago and I did a lot of walking and biking last year (one year after surgery). My doctor also said running was out but walking and biking are really good.

    Happy new year everyone!

    Jan-01: 3 mile walk/1.18 non-exercise activity

    Jan Total:
    Exercise: 3.0 miles
    Non-exercise: 1.18 miles
