Boo! "From ghosties and ghoulies and long leggedy beastie and things that go bump in the night, good Lord deliver us!"
Quite a weekend in Toronto The Good! When I saw the traffic on the streets, I was so thankful I had decided to use the train. I've driven in Paris and Rome but that was many years ago and I don't think I could have coped.
The wedding was in Hart House which is part of the University of Toronto and was just lovely. Wee Nate who is 22 months was the ringbearer and his cousin was a delightful flower girl. The receiving line was in the courtyard - "Is this a castle?" said the flower girl - with lots of bubbly and gorgeous hors d'oevres. Then the meal which was seven (count them courses). It started with ten Greek men carrying a whole roasted pig and bottles of wine who sang and danced through the tables offering wine and servings of pork to the guests - a tradition that began when Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire and they wanted to annoy the conquerors when! There was also the traditional struggle with the bride and groom to pull apart a loaf of bread - Colin got the biggest piece so will be the boss in the Marriage. I will post some pictures later of the flower arrangements on the tables which we were to take home - I resisted because I was using the train.
Got home around six last night and was sure glad to see my bed, as were the dogs who absolutely love the kennel but hit their beds early!
I'm skipping having coffee with the usual Monday group in favour of girding my loins for Hallowe'en and getting some house stuff done. The painter is gone but there is still furniture and pictures to replace. I am also out of milk and dogfood - an intolerable situation so will hit the grocery store. I may get some reserve stuff for the kiddies in case i get more than the usual 30 callers.
Enjoy this day, busy though it may be - I intend to tackle some niggles as part of my house stuff. (My fridge has way too many yellow stickies.)
We are going to get to the 70s today, which will be good for trick or treaters. I am wfh today, I need to do last minute laundry, pack my suitcase and bring cupcakes up to school for DD2 lunch. Her table is bringing in lunch today. We went to Witches night out next town over to look at all of the elaborate witches costumes, only stayed for about half hour though and then back home. We did go to DS hockey game as well.
Tonight not sure if I am walking with DD or dropping her off to her group of friends and then picking her up, I will find out later, Trick or treating starts at the same time I need to check into my flight for tomorrow so I may being doing this by multiple mobile phones lol.
What you got planned for today?
Ruth- I noticed you posted right after I submitted, thanks for the merge... sounds like the wedding was beautiful and a fun event to attend.
Ruth the wedding sounds like a blast!!! I love the traditions you were able to experience!!! Sounds like you had a great time.
Pearlrose I miss the days of trick or treating with my son. I used to tell him every Reese's Peanut Butter cup was open or smooshed. LOL he was on to me and used to give them to me. Now I wont buy them because I can't control myself around them lol. Have fun whatever you do. Where is your conference?
Today was a full day of Critical Incident training. So far it is very interesting as it deals with mental illness. Tonight I will see if I get any visitors. Last year I worked 3-11 and the year before no one came. It gets dark early so hopefully if anyone comes it is befor then.
Got my blood work results, all normal. Guess I'll chock up fatigue to hormones too. I like to blame them for everything lol. That reminds me I still have to schedule an ultra sound. I'll add it to my to do list.
I never got here this morning. I had to open today which is not my usual and I was just disorganized. Now I just got home because I spent an hour with T-Mobile trying to help my coworker sort out her bill. Now I have to get in an hour of painting and deal with the doggies getting some outside time. They stayed home by themselves today and my friend came over and let them out halfway in between. I don't know what the trick-or-treater situation is because of the road project but I don't have any candy so I need to get the dogs in and shut the drapes and go upstairs. I'm a bah humbug Halloween person. It's because traditionally hundreds of kids come up from Denver. I hope they don't try that this year they will be disappointed. My 16-year-old neighbor is having a party though so there will be lots of music and kids. I can deal with that
Good morning! Why is is so dark at 7 a.m.? Maybe to make us appreciate the time change on Sunday?
Had over 40 trick-or-treaters last night including six little unicorns. The last group came at 8:39 and I called it quits after that and put the goodies on the porch for any latecomers. They are still there this morning, untouched although I did leave the light on. (They go straight into the garbage can today as I refuse to donate such unhealthy food to the Food Bank. (Yes, I did indulge a bit and am sorry now, of course, because I have a doctor's appointment today! )
Good morning! I am trying a walking in the dark post this morning. I had to park my car quite a ways from home last night as they were going to entirely section off the construction zone to accommodate trick-or-treaters. My mom also needed her compression socks put on this morning so I took the trash and recycle and smoothie to my car before walking to her house. Now I'm walking back to my car around a giant excavator to drop her mail and post office keys in my car before returning home. I have to take both doggies to daycare this morning so juggling them will be enough.
I am in a bit of denial right now about what this whole process is going to be like once we get snow. I guess I should just enjoy the simplicity of it while it's here.
Anyway, I have a massage scheduled right after work to keep working on healing my body. That will be the highlight of my day! Have a good one everyone! I am now walking around the giant gravel pile And my front gate is in view. LOL
I ended up going with DD2 and her friends trick or treating so got some more walking in. Today I am working on month end reports and then we leave for the airport at 2 p.m. I still need to pack bathroom items but everything else is packed and ready to go.
Jennifer the conference is in Las Vegas, the weather will be the same as it is here this week, crazy!
Debbie I saw your FB post crazy that the trick or treaters still came
Ruth we didn't get that many trick or treaters either, luckily the candy that DH got are his favorite not mine.
Happy Peak Day! I am off to get my snowtires put on since we will definitely getting snow this month. Seems silly when today is supposed to be sunny and warm and there are still leaves on the trees but ... according to the garage guys, snows are needed as soon as the roads freeze.
Seems we are getting a little moisture this morning. It's supposed to end soon and I don't think it will impact my painting. It does remind me I better finish this project. LOL the water will be off all day so I filled my jugs. I guess I'll go enjoy another cuppa coffee then go clean out the compost bin. It's pretty full I think I will throw it on the raspberries this year. Have a great day everyone!
Guess I didn't post yesterday but nothing much is happening, just all of the normal busyness of school. Our marking period ends this week so that means lots of grading but I'm feeling on top of things. I'm also going to a conference this weekend so I have been trying to get a little bit ahead on my laundry and such.
Ruth, we had unusual warmth today also but I won't complain. The cold will come soon enough. Good planning to get your snow tires on.
Debbie, hope the "moisture" held off and you finished your painting. Was the water off due to the construction project?
Pearlrose, hope your travels are going smoothly and the conference is informative.
Jennifer, wishing you a lower stress week at work; I know things have been messy lately.
I'm a little tired tonight; woke up in the wee hours to go pee and couldn't go back to sleep. Bed will feel good tonight plus we get that extra hour this weekend!
Well, lots got accomplished yesterday with tire changing and yard raking but it seems my house was neglected and today is Michelle Day, It's pouring rain for the day so she will have to clean around the dogs. (No problem as they have a mutual adoration society.) Kicking myself that I didn't sweep the leaves off the deck - wet leaves are like soggy cornflakes which the dogs track in.
Michelle will be here in an hour so I must leap into action. I woke at 3 and thought I stayed awake the rest of the night. However, when I woke up it was 7:30. Doing the time warp again?
The time change is killing me this time, keep getting up at either 2:30 or 3:30 a.m. but have managed a bit more sleep. The conference is going great, this place is packed to the gills though. Getting lots of walking in since this place is so big no need to go for a walk in the mornings, I get it going to the conference area. So far eating is op.
Hope everyone is doing well, we leave tomorrow evening so I will probably not post again until Saturday.
Today the major constructing part starts in front of my house. It was a little colder last night than we had expected so painting won't start until noonish. I'm going to work outside sorting and organizing and putting away. I make a little progress every day.
Rose, I was amazed at how grown-up Las Vegas is. It was a little too much for me. You do get walking in, though.
Ruth, glad it is Michelle day. I wish she was coming here.
Beth, glad you're feeling organized with all your grading. Yes, water shut off was due to project.
Jennifer, are you still in critical incident training?
I guess I will get going. It's pretty cold just sitting here. Happy Thursday everyone!
