Default Steel Magnolias #130

Good morning, ladies. Only in the 30s today and lots of frost last night. We may get snow next week. I hope not!

I had fun with Glory and Norah. Glory's daughter gave her all the original James Heriot series - All creatures great and small and we watched the first 3. It was on for 12 years so we are going to watch one every week when we get together to sew.

Faye, it's good Jack will have a dinner you prepared. Poor man, I hope he doesn't have to do this long.

Jean, you sound like me with changing the beds on Saturday and doing laundry. I still do the majority of my household chores on the weekend just like I did when I was working.

Have a wonderful day.

Good morning, ladies. Only 42 for a high today. I'm being lazy and going to 11 am Mass today because I don't want to scrape frost from my windshield.

I started washing and waxing my kitchen cabinets and putting in new shelf liner yesterday. I use Murphy's oil soap and Amish Wood Milk for the job. I'm also getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I have way to much I don't use from one year to the next so out it goes. Thrift store will be picking up in our neighborhood this week and they will get a lot, including 2 end tables. The older I get the less I want around me.

Faye, will Jack let us know how you do tomorrow? I'm praying for you.

Have a wonderful day.

Good morning everyone. It is cold here again this morning as I woke up all warm and got up and went to the bathroom and already have cold hands. We try and keep the temp at 69 but this old condo doesn't have good insulation.

Today I want to finish upstairs and clean the bathrooms again then in the afternoon I have a waxing appointment. I did my legs yesterday. Tomorrow is the day.

Jack called at 7:30 and said they had revised the flooding so he was coming home. He did get paid for 4 hours of overtime though because it was the weekend. He didn't get called in for this morning so he won't have to start until Tuesday as he is off on Monday for my surgery.

Susan: That sounds like to get to see a whole series and sew too. We are supposed to get some snow in a couple weeks so we shall see how that goes. I was hoping no snow or ice at all this season. I too do my sheet changing on Saturdays even though I am home all the time. I also take down my cloth shower curtains and bleach them once a month to keep mildew from developing. They sure last longer than plastic ones. I have a curtain and an interior liner and they are both cotton. I have had them for 14 years and they are still going strong as long as I bleach the inner liner about once a month.

Jean: I bought plastic boxes for my stuff and labeled them like first aid, cold stuff, etc for things that are in smaller boxes and such. Right now it is a mess again and needs to be gone through as some of the stuff has expired. I feel all upside down and have for awhile so will be happy when I get back to a routine. I am the first appointment and my surgery is 7:30 AM so have to be there at 5 AM. That means getting up around 3 so will have to go to bed early.

Everyone have a good day. I won't be in here tomorrow, but will let you know how it went.

Good Afternoon! It's been a cloudy, windy, cold, and gloomy day in my neighborhood. The weatherman said it would be sunny -- he lied! Bob ushers the month of January, so we were at church earlier than usual. Originally there were four ushers so they would always have at least three if one was gone. One died a few years ago, one goes to Florida right after Christmas for three months but the secretary hasn't taken his name off the list, the third guy is about as dependable as the weather, and Bob. Today he was the only one to show up. He can always get volunteers to help with communion and the offering but then has to get a sub for the Sunday he sings. We had a few more than usual because there was a 25th anniversary party between the two services, and that family had extra people there. Bob took the tree down this afternoon and both cats are looking sad. They like to sit underneath it as have all of our cats.

Susan, thank you for starting the new thread. I must admit I do some of the same Saturday chores on Saturday that I've always done. I have a friend who cleans and straightens on Fridays just in case someone would drop in over the weekend. I've tried to make myself do that but it's hit and miss. I have too many excess bowls, etc., that were my mom's and I should part with them. They most likely aren't microwave safe because I remember them as a child. That would be a good job to do soon. I know you will enjoy the JH series!

"Gma," it would be nice if Jack didn't have to put in any 12 hour days. I've not had trouble with the shower curtains and mildew but have one spot in the basement where the cement block seems to stay wet longer. I pour straight bleach on it and scrub it with a brush. I hate doing it because sometimes it spatters and I end up with bleach specks on my clothes. I hope all goes well tomorrow. Will they let you come home if it does, or keep you overnight?

I have a "new" address book that I've never used but have had for years. I need to go through my old book and update it into the new one. Sounds like a good project to do today. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!

Good Evening! It was very, very foggy in my neighborhood this morning. On the 7:00 weather there was 0 visibility. We did church counting this afternoon so I'm glad I didn't have to drive into town in the dark. We balanced but when I did the posting I didn't balance with the first round. I saved it all for the secretary to figure out! I over ate junk yesterday, I guess, because I paid for it last night. Bob is a black licorice fan and the kids gave him some very strong licorice for Christmas. That's really all I ate out of the ordinary so will blame that. I tossed and turned all night looking at the clock every half hour or so. I am tired and nursing a queasy stomach this morning! I spent the morning in the recliner with both cats trying to find space to settle in.

"Gma," hoping all is ok tonight!

I have towels in the dryer and a kitchen to pick up so had better get at it. Enjoy your evening!

Good morning! Snowing and 23 degrees. No accumulation expected. I HATE snow.

It felt good to go back to the Y yesterday. I did water aerobics and yoga. I'm doing water aerobics today. I think I best ease back into my full routine.

Faye, I'm praying for your speedy recovery! I hope everything went well yesterday.

Jean, black licorice is know to cause GI issues. I hope you are feeling better.

Have a wonderful day and stay warm!

Talking Thuesday in the Morning

GOOD MORNING IN JANUARY MAGNOLIAS

It is a rather gloomy and chilly here this day but we have nice heaters in this MH. I showed a MAINTAIN at WW last evening for which I am very thankful for because I ate some things this past week that I have not been consuming like a double dip of a rocky road ice cream cone from Brahms which was soooo good. Anyway my plan is to get back to losing this week.

Fruit prices along with beef have risen considerably due to the much rain that has been falling in the growing areas. Will bought me a huge 5# bag of Cuties, California Clementines, which are E-Z peel seedless and I love those little things and eat a couple a day which gets in some fruit into my system. The price of these little things has gone up considerably. One store here sells them $2.00 less then another store so you know where we get them. It pays to shop around.

Will got a call from the preacher this morning inviting him to the area wide meeting of preachers. It is nice that he was invited since he has just recently retired so he could come here for his chemo treatments. It will be a great opportunity for him to meet all the area preachers in the area even if he isn’t “one of them” at the present.

Our water heater quit working and that is a critical thing to have. Will went out and opened up the door and a huge spider had strung his web all over inside and lay there dead ~ probably cooked from the heat. Anyway he took his outdoor vacuum to it and cleaned it all out and it now works like it should. Thank goodness for that for those things are quite spendy for MH’s. We thought it odd that the heater quit soon after he had hooked up a portable gas tank and it was working so good. But the spider just hadn’t finished his webbing yet that gumed up the works.

SUSAN As I have grown older I am not a lover of snow and don't look forward to it falling like I did in my younger days. Yep, good to get back to exercise nice and easy.

JEAN Sorry you had to learn the effects of what black licorice can do to your system. My doc once said folks with high BP shouldn't eat lots of it either.

DONNA FAYE We all are thinking of you and hoping the best.

Good Morning! It's cloudy and gloomy this morning. We are supposed to have freezing drizzle at some point. When I left for my haircut it was beginning to sprinkle here, but nothing on the other side of the lake. Strange weather again today, since yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. I have bell practice later and we really need the practice since we play Sunday. I need to work on the laundry. I'm trying to keep the basement clear thinking the generator man will call one of these days. Wish he could have/would have been able to install it before Christmas when we didn't have any snow and the weather was much warmer.

Susan, I didn't know about black licorice causing any issues. Boy, I do now! I hope your snow is gone and you have warmed up again. This weather is just crazy. Have fun at the Y but be careful you don't over do!

Maggie, on the maintain. That's good at the holiday time of year. Glad your water heater was an easy fix. Darn spider should have found a better place to settle in. He must have been cold.

"Gma," we are anxiously waiting for some news from you!

I need to get busy! Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning, ladies. Another overcast day in the 40s.

I'm getting a bit worried that we haven't heard anything from Faye. I hope she is doing okay.

Jean, are you getting a whole house generator? That's what Glory had installed 2 years ago. I hope to see no more snow this winter, not even one flake!

Maggie, Spider Stops Water Heater - breaking news at 11! What a story. I hope that doesn't happen again. Congratulations on your maintain.

Have a wonderful day.

Talking Thursday Afternoon

GOOD AFTERNOON IN JANUARY MAGNOLIAS

It rained last evening and some through the night and now the sun has come out and it is a beautiful day. I have a roast in the crock pot slathered with a pack of onion soup mix and some veggies. It will smell good cooking all day around this MH. Beanie looks up at the table where the crock pot is and sniffs for he is expecting a good morsel to be his which it will be of course. He looks so cute for we let his hair grow a bit from his short cut he has been having. This time we had the gal just trim him up a bit around the tail and face and ears. When it gets hot again we will get his hair .cut short once again but for now he can wear it longer and look good with it that way. Not much else going on around here this day. Will goes tomorrow and the next day and again next Friday to the doctor for the doc wants to discuss his taking the oral medicine to rid him of his cancer and the possible side effects and of course thoroughly x-ray him.

Good Afternoon! It's another foggy day in my neighborhood. It's 32 degrees but is supposed to be heading down to the 0 and below range for the weekend. I can tell it is staying lighter a little later in the afternoon. I've been sorting through a years worth of utility bills, notices from Medicare and BC/BS, and credit card statements. I have a dispute with a company called Country Store. I returned a shirt and was never given credit for it so want to be sure and save that paperwork. The credit card company issued a credit and contacted the company.

Susan, sounds like we are having the same gloomy weather. We thought we were just getting a big enough generator to run the furnace and sump pumps. As it turns out it is natural gas, and will run everything in the house but will automatically shut off the central air if necessary. There is a generator that runs on water pressure and I actually laughed at that choice. I told the guy water is our problem in the first place. We didn't want a gas or battery kind in case we wouldn't be home and it would run out of fuel or juice. I keep thinking they will call to install it but the weather hasn't been cooperating. I, too, am concerned about Donna Faye.

Maggie, you could share some of your sunshine. A roast sounds good! I hope Will gets a good report.

I have lunch dishes to do from making a casserole. I didn't have mushroom soup so used another flavor. Bob said he couldn't tell any difference but I thought it was dry. Hope you all are enjoying a terrific Thursday!

Good Morning! It is spitting snow and the prediction is for wind increasing as the day goes on. I wish it would spit somewhere else and Mr. Sun would shine! We are supposed to go to Bob's company New Year's "party" tonight but think we are going to pass on account of the weather. It will be in a casino, over an hour north of us on country roads. There is a new manager, young, and eager to work his way "up" to the home office. He's not remotely interested in the county agents' concerns, which isn't winning any brownie points around here. I need to keep working on clothes -- sort and pitch! We are meeting our Maui friends in a nearby restaurant tomorrow night. I'm trying to find a time when we could all (kids, grandkids, and friends) meet for a dinner together while in Maui. I play bells Sunday and we are subbing in the card club Sunday night.

I need to unload the dishwasher and keep moving! Hope you all enjoy a fantastic Friday!

Talking Finally Friendly Friday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN JANUARY MAGNOLIAS

Not much going on here this day. I have been busy this morning installing books into my E-Sword Bible program and getting it all up to date with I want in it. When they last worked on our computers they did a thorough cleaning and wiped the program out of Will’s computer ~ I hadn’t loaded it into this computer yet when they worked on it. But we had paid for several of their commentaries and books and had to enter the codes to get it all set up again. If we didn’t still have the codes the folks there would give them to us for they keep a good record of who owns what. Some of the books are free but others we had to buy. It makes it so much easier to read them on our computers for reference then having them in hard back in this MH.

Will has gone for his consultation with the doctors and getting his prescriptions for his oral treatment of chemo. It will be interesting on how he is going to be feeling while taking those meds. He is to take them Mon through Fri and take Sat & Sun off. The doc is confident that these pills will work well on Will’s problem. They always try the liquid drip of chemo treatment on patients first for it works well on lots of folks but there are some that have a system that is resistant to it and Will falls in that category. Will has an appointment next week on Mon to talk again to the doc and have some tests run after he has been on the meds for a week.

I think for lunch I will make myself a nice roast beef sandwich and eat some veggies that I have cut up and prepared and a couple of Cuties along with it. Cuties are my favorite form of fruit these days. This bag of Cuties came from the state of Florida.

JEAN I think it a good idea for you to not go to that place over an hour away in that weather you are having. The wind isn't blowing here today and I am so thankful for that.

Good Morning! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing! It was 0 when I got up this morning. Bob left at 6 to help Jason install a new hot water heater. I've been putzing all morning and haven't accomplished much. We are going out to eat with friends tonight and I'm trying to decide what would be the warmest clothes to wear. We have never been to this restaurant but I've been warned that it is on the chilly side there. I need to iron a shirt, for Bob to wear to church tomorrow, and get my bell ringing black slacks and shirt ready to go. The sunshine gives me the motivation to get things done, so need to keep moving.

Maggie, I bought a bag of Cuties from the music department before Christmas. They are good! The store just got a new shipment of Honey Crisp apples and ripe bananas so we are set for awhile. Bob stopped to pick up bread and milk for me, then added fruit to the basket.

The washer should be done so need to get the next load going. Hope you all enjoy a nice day whatever you are doing.

Good morning, ladies! It was raining when I went to Mass but the sun is out now and its already 59 degrees.

Donna, I hope you are feeling better every day!

Jean, Glory has the natural gas whole house generator, too. It comes on every Friday at 2 pm for a few minutes just to be sure it is working. The area she lives in is old and the electric goes off at the drop of a hat. She and 3 neighbors are on a line all by themselves so they are the last ones to get power back when its off. I love honey crisp apples.

Maggie, I hope thie oral chemo works for Will. I like the Cuties, too. Have you been thinking about your doll making?

Have a wonderful day. I'm going to be lazy and watch a movie this afternoon.
