Default Hello - joining for accountability and support xx

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking here for a little while, but I've finally mustered up the confidence to post and introduce myself.

I'm absolutely desperate to lose some weight, as I'm just so fed up with myself! I'd been gradually gaining weight since my teens, but when my first child was born 3 years ago she had some health problems and I struggled to cope, and ate for comfort and escapism. My weight rocketed up, with me in total denial. It wasn't until I saw a particularly unflattering photo of myself that I even seemed to realise what had happened! I'd fallen into a horrible pattern of bingeing and not taking very good care of myself, and didn't feel that I had any time or energy to change anything.

I joined weightwatchers and did lose 2 stones, but I regained quite a lot of it whilst pregnant with my second child, who is now 6 months old. Unfortunately my second baby also had some issues and once again I've been massively over-eating to try and feel better. You would really think I'd know that it doesn't work by now.

Sometimes it almost feels like my bingeing is about self harm and disliking myself, and being overweight is like having a cloak of invisibility to hide in.

Anyway, I've decided I've really had enough now. I need to take better care of myself or else my family will suffer, and I desperately want to be healthy for them. And I know it's vain but I also really want to look better and wear some nice clothes!

I'm doing weightwatchers again as it worked well for me previously. I've also started a couch to 5k running program - it's still very early days but I'm enjoying it (I've never really exercised before).

Sorry, I didn't mean to waffle on when I started writing this! I'm joining here for support and accountability, and hopefully to start this journey for the last time.

Xx

EnolaAlone! I'm so sorry to hear your babies had health issues, but you are so right: You need to be healthy for them! I'm so glad you finally joined our community. You'll find lots of support here! Be sure to visit the WW forum, where you can discuss your WW journey with others on the same plan. And great job starting the couch to 5k program! You can do this! Good luck!

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement Jacqui, I really appreciate them.

Today was my first weekly weigh-in since starting WW again. I'm really pleased as I lost 7.5lbs. Of course most of this will be water weight but it's a nice boost. I've had a reasonably good week, but I did have a mini binge a couple of days ago. Not as bad as it could have been but I felt horrible afterwards. I had to throw away half a box of sugary cereal bars as I'm clearly not able to just have one at a time at the moment.

Ah well, onwards and upwards!

Xxx

Welcome! I'd definitely check the Weight Watchers subforum and the Exercise subforum. Quite a few people here do weight watchers and many people in the exercise area do couch to 5k.

Welcome EnolaAlone! I am new to this forum too, although I've been reading the posts off and on for several years. I am not very computer savvy so it took me a bit to get my courage up to try it. How do you like Weight Watchers? Have you ever tried Ideal Protein? If so, just wondering how you liked it vs WW? I hope your little 3 year old is doing better. Nothing motivates us mothers more than wanting to be there, long term for our babies!! You can do it!!! Good luck! =)

Hi again,

Thank you for making me feel welcome! It was my weigh in day again today, and I didn't get the result I wanted, but that's not surprising as I had quite a bad week. I don't seem to be able to control myself for very long when I'm stressed.

However it's not all bad as I'm still doing well with the couch to 5k plan, I'm now more than half way through and still really enjoying it.

Anyway, I've faced the music, had a word with myself and I'm moving on...

Igodisgood - I'm sorry I don't know anything about IP, so I can't compare them. I've done weightwatchers previously and I like the flexibility, to either count points or do filling and healthy days/weeks. I think being able to vary what you do is important, otherwise I just get bored. I usually count points - I see it as a budget, and I quite like planning what to spend my points on. However I do use the filling and healthy option occasionally, usually for 2 or 3 days at a time as sometimes I just don't want to concentrate on counting everything. I do know someone who lost a couple of stones just using the filling and healthy plan, but I find the choice of foods a bit too limited to do it all the time, so I use it as a break from counting every now and then when I need it.

Xx
