Smile New Years Resolutions?

I never make official NY resolutions, I just decide to change things when I feel I can do it.

I'll give it a shot for this New Years but I already started this week if I want to get technical.

Obviously we're all here to lose weight (or have already lost ) but I think this year I will try to make more effort to stick to the gym and get myself back in the shape I want to be. Thanks to the support of 3FC members I was REALLY happy with the way I looked by summer of 2013. I never stopped going to the gym but I got too comfortable with food. Portion control got away from me one too many times and I lost a lot of abdomen tone. No biggie but it's something to work on. More so for my health than vanity. I am admittedly vain though.

ETA: Thanks to Serval87 I will also try to spend a lot less time on facebook.

What's going to be yours?

I started my new years resolution a little early.. but my aim is to be accountable all year. For me that simply means I need to log what I eat, and how/if I exercise daily, regardless of if it's over or under my points goal.

I'll also be restarting college just after the new year, so of course getting my degree is another resolution. Only 6 more classes to go since I'm picking up where I dropped off a few years back. Will have an associates of arts with a focus in LAN/WAN networking.

I don't make new years resolutions and actually started working on health and fitness now to avoid that. I'm like you, if it needs to be done, I'll do it then. So I guess just to keep trekking on the healthy lifestyle path! My best friend wants to do some planking challenge in January, never heard of it but I said I would do it with her when she asked, so I guess that's two.

You'll like the plank challenge. I did it for a while, it's hard but you can definitely feel it working your muscles.

Weight loss aside, my resolution this year is to become fluent in spanish!
I've been working on it the past year already and have learned so much.

My husband is Puerto Rican/Nicaraguan so a lot of his family speaks spanish. We really want to teach our son a a little bit of Spanish/English.

This is the first year ever that my new year's resolutions have nothing to do with weightloss. It feels awesome! I really enjoy setting my mind to bettering myself. The things I really want to focus on this year are:

1. Silencing my inner critic - she's a vicious one indeed! I've already managed to calm her down when it comes to my appearance and have bee reaping the rewards of that but now I'm turning the focus on silence the critic who is directed towards my career. I doubt myself a lot and criticize myself harshly, so much that when compliments about my work come from others I have a hard time believing them or accepting them.

2. Stop using the word HATE. It's amazing how often we use this negative word in random situations. "I hate that shirt," "I hate her shoes" "I hate the Kardashians" etc. From now on I need to find better ways to express myself without resorting to hatred.

3. Learn how to meditate. My mind is all over the place, I need to get better at it.

Yes, I can get on board with this. I have a tendency to speak negative at times (especially during TOM lol) and it's a mood killer. Positive thoughts and optimism results in happiness and much better outlook on life. The power of positive thinking is very real.

I've actually never made New Years resolutions. I always thought it was something doomed to fail, and that if I couldn't stick to something earlier, what would make the new year any different?

But this year, I'm going to. I'm going to try and keep my resolutions realistic. I've slacked off so much in the past few months, and while I don't expect myself to make huge drastic changes, I want to change a couple of things slowly.

1) Like someone mentioned earlier, be more accountable. For me that means coming to these forums more often. About a year ago I came here and posted regularly for weeks and it definitely made me more conscious about my efforts. Ever since I started coming here less, my weight loss has stalled. So yeah, coming here each day and being honest about what I've done.
2) Cutting down on the smoking. I tried quitting cold turkey and that didn't work, but I have been cutting down slowly from 15 a day, to 10 a day and now I'm on about 6 a day. I want to try bringing it down by, perhaps, 1 per week.
3) Spend more time with family. My grandparents are old and can't go out of the house too much, and they love keeping in contact with their grandchildren. I really want one of my resolutions to be to speak to them more often, whether it's over email, phone or text.

I have a few, actually.

1. I'm going to try to get back into exercise (I have my plan worked out on my signature). I'm going to strive to do my Callanetics every day (at least one of the Quick Callanetics segments, which are around 13-15 minutes) and 6 days a week I'm going to try to do at least 30 minutes of added exercise. The Callanetics helps with my stiff muscles.

2. I need to work on my writing more,

3. Also going to work on attending church more. I've really been getting out of it, and that's just not the person I want to be,

4. I want to start being more direct in how I'm feeling and not bottling it up or expecting my husband to be a mind-reader,

5. I have this book to help me think of food differently and only eat when I'm truly hungry, so I need to get on that.

6. And my big one. I'm going to TRY to stop wasting so much time on FB. It is my biggest time-waster and I have tons of other stuff I could be doing, instead.

1. Getting healthy is my goal and that involves losing weight, eating healthy and sticking to my eating plan that I chose.
2. Exercise is a big struggle for me. Focusing on how I feel AFTER I exercise will help me stay motivated.
One day at a time!
3. Remembering to love myself for all the wonderful gifts and skills that God has given me!
4. Not allowing to hate myself for being overweight!
5. Make progress with my little business online and channel my creativity to produce useful and wonderful things that I am proud of.
I started Christmas day rather than wait until the New Year.
Good luck to each and every one of us!

*sigh*

Facebook. I wish it never was invented.

I held out a looong time but I finally got an account about 3 years ago just because at this point it's the only way people will keep in regular touch and it was a good way to keep up with the local music scene which my DH is heavily involved in being a musician. If it wasn't for FB I would have almost no idea what's going on in my friend's lives. My cell never rings anymore - only texts. I remember when I easily needed 1,000 minutes a month and now I think I use 90, at most.

I have a love/hate relationship with social media so I should do the same. I admittedly waste too much time on there as well and need to focus more on the real world and getting other stuff done.

I've got the weight loss thing already covered so less time on FB I think is a very good and positive resolution for you and me both.

I've always had the opinion that New Year's resolutions are silly because a person can always make changes to her/his life at any point. I have to admit though, there is something nice about feeling like there is a fresh start, and lately, I've been really wanting to better myself.

Here are mine:
-Quit Smoking (only 3 cigarettes in the past 2 days, I hope I keep cutting down!)
-No more binge eating
-Eat healthier (I eat really well when I'm at my parents', but at school I always fall back onto comfort foods)
-Try to exercise more when I'm at school

I miss being fit and healthy, and want to become that person again.

I agree about NY resolutions being a tad silly but it's still a turning point and gives an extra incentive to start the year off right.

Good luck with quitting smoking, that's a hard one. I quit after 18 years by doing basically what you're doing. I smoked only a few a day for a long time, eventually was only 1 a day on my way to work, and then one day I just stopped. I haven't smoked in probably 2 years now and I can't believe I ever did. When I smell it on other people it's so bad but you don't realize it when you're a smoker yourself. It got to the point that I felt ashamed and hid it since it's becoming taboo in public. People glare like you're a murderer if you smoke now.

Thanks for the support, and congrats on quitting! I figures slowing down would be a much better way to quit than stopping cold turkey, which I feel like is setting yourself up for relapsing. I only feel ashamed about it when I'm around family or other people I respect, such as professors or friends who don't smoke. I have never been able to smoke in front of my parents because I know it would disappoint them too much. I seem to have a good handle on it so far

I'm giving up time-wasting computer and phone games. Some time ago, I found myself playing too much Tetris--while it was a great stress reducer, it was also a time thief. I made a NY resolution to stop and haven't played since. Then my DS installed 2048 on my phone. Curses! I told him: No More Games On My Phone, but I found a new, highly addictive one the other day. Soooooo I'm cutting myself off completely.

I'm getting the twinges and I remembered this thread and just had to post. Give me strength ladeees!

(ooooo I'll have to listen to you guys and stay away from DH's Facebook (I don't have one)....not that his is tempting....baahaahaa)
