Default Hungry at night

Is anyone else hungry at night? I try not to eat too much but I just can't sleep if I'm hungry. We tend to have dinner early, around 5, I'm not sure I could make my family change that, so by bed time, 9-10, I'm hungry again. I guess the only solution would be to have a healthy snack. Last night I ate an entire pouch of steamed edamame (tastey, just not filling) and 1/3 cup (before cooking) oatmeal with honey.

What do you do?

I have a bit of protein. It seems to calm my sugar drop at night and takes the edge off so I can sleep.

Break up the meal - eat half your dinner at 5 and leave the rest of it to eat later on in the evening. That way you're not scrounging around the kitchen looking for a snack which may or may not be healthy.

If I'm truly hungry at night, I'll have a cup of hot tea and perhaps an orange or some other fresh fruit or veggie (like cucumbers). Usually, I preoccupy myself with a book, hobby, or television. I don't mind feeling a little hungry, especially if I know that I ate enough healthy food during the day to support my nutritional needs. If my schedule was wonky and I didn't eat enough healthy food, then I'll have a little more to make up for it. I don't keep anything snacky in the house, so that helps reduce temptation. I think my previous night snacking habit was probably more based in emotion than actual hunger. If I'm truly hungry, a serving of fresh fruit hits the spot

I count calories, so I always leave at least 200-300 for late in the evening. However, I also make sure I have a massive calorific dinner (I don't eat as much during the day), just to make sure I'm not hungry at night. But, if you're not calorie counting, I always find that a cup of something hot (tea, hot chocolate, etc.) and a biscuit helps Hope you find a solution that works for you!

Try and opt for something with protein(as mentioned by others), I find that 2 scrambled eggs are what takes that edge off. Glass of milk or a piece of ham or turkey works too. As long as it's a healthy option don't feel bad about it! Drinking enough water helps too!

I'm the opposite. I am not hungry at night so skip dinner. But I do eat a big breakfast and lunch.

To be honest, in your shoes I'd work with that bowl of oats.

Go for steelcut oats (1/4 cup) - you can get instant varieties that microwave in a few minutes. Add 3/4 cup of flaxseed milk (20 calories). Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. A little vanilla essence. 1 dried Turkish apricot (chopped). 1 dried fig (chopped). And 1 or 2 teaspoons of honey. And you will have a feast.

For a spicy version, add 1 teaspoon of cayenne chili pepper and 1 teaspoon of tabasco sauce.

I frickin' love oats. And it don't really matter if you have them for breakfast or before breakfast!

I'll tipically have some fruit or a thick slice of low fat cheese before going to sleep. Does the trick!

Ok, we have a few good ideas here Dinner tonight was filling (lots of beans haha) so I'm actually not hungry now. I'm sure I'll be hungry enough to try one of these suggestions tomorrow!

And I love oats too... I have them for breakfast every morning. And the real stuff, not that instant garbage! Usually with milk and a bit of natural PB. I always put milk in it unless I have frozen berries in it.

I get hungry at night too, well-really-about 2-3 hours after each meal and snack. So I try to have smaller meals and snacks so my calories are more spread out. My issue is i crave something savory and something sweet. Plus, milk just makes me feel fuller I don't know why. I will usually have milk with some toast and pb. Satisfying but doesn't break my calories.

Try having some mint sleepy time tea. It gets rid of that munchie craving and helps you settle down for the night.

How about a quest bar? They are high in protein and fiber and only 160 calories. I had one yesterday, I think it was double chocolate chunk, and it tasted like a dense brownie. They have lots of other flavors, and I'm on my own quest to try them all! I bought mine from the cafe at my gym, but I know gnc carries them, too. I need to see if my walmart has them...

Maybe for you. For me if I am craving a cookie and I eat a carrot instead it only makes me more hungry, and then I get resentful and so I eat more carrots, this time with hummus. But that's not what I was really craving so chances are I'll eat the cookie anyway.

I'm like that! Usually lean cheese does it for me, but if i'm craving something specific nothing else will do! Also, like you, if i eat something else that's not what i really want there's a good chance i'll later eat what i'd wanted on the first place in adition. If i don't have that specific food at home i might eat something similar (i never have cookies at home, so i'd eat a greek iogurt that's actualy closer to being a dessert than a iogurt). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

hi guys!
For me, i always crave sweet things at night so my doctor said i can have a cup of skimmed milk with one teaspoon of sugar free cocoa powder, a tablespoon of oat bran and an organic sweetener, it is very yummy and stops the feeling of hunger somehow or during the day if i really need to chew something i use sugar free gum; there was some great ideas in the posts below but we are all different so you choose what really works for you! good luck ^_^
