Talking Doctors always tell me I am fat

Whenever I go to the doctors they always tell me that I am obese for my height, I weigh around 10 stone and I am 5'0 and 3/4 . For my height I should be around 8 stone , I just don't want to be that skinny or small for my height.
Does anyone ever think maybe the BMIs are out of date and needed updating, I don't think for someone being 5'0 foot should be 8 stone it just makes me feel like I have to lose weight because doctors thinks that my weight needs to change drastically and diet.

It's time to become healthy and start a new change.

That sounds ridiculous, imho.
You need to be comfortable in and with your body, first and foremost. If 8 stone would make you feel uncomfortable, then it absolutely doesn't sound like a good weight for you! Ideally, charts should be used as guidelines ONLY, and weight should be individual to each person. Unless there are extenuating circumstances or issues for why you need to be super light, your doctors are being a bit inconsiderate and ignorant, imo.

Hi Tinkerbell93! If my calculations are right, 10 stone is 140 lbs and 8 stone is 112 lbs. At approximately 5'1" and 140 lbs, you have a BMI of 26.4. That's just slightly in the overweight category on the BMI charts. I don't know why the doctors are telling you you're obese. 30 is obese. 24.9 is considered normal range for your height. 112 lbs or 8 stone would put you at 21.2, which is low normal range for you. 18.5 is considered underweight. Not only that, but if you are muscular rather than fat, the BMI can't even calculate your body fat properly and the chart info says that. So no, you are not obese. I don't know what numbers your doctors are using. (Btw, if you calculated your BMI at 5'0", which would actually be less accurate, it would be 27.3, which is still only in the overweight category.) Whatever you decide, whether to maintain, or lose a little, or go all the way to 8 stone, good luck in your journey! Glad to have you here!

That's silly. BMI charts are not completey accurate because it doesn't take into account body shape, muscle, etc. (My personal opinion.) I use it as a guide but I think if you are happy and healthy. Then that being slightly over the "normal" bmi isn't that big of a deal.

I'm with you Tinkerbell. I don't remember my BMI but it's always been in the obese range. I think for my height 5'8 I am think I supposed to weigh 140. And to me I would look emaciated and like I need someone to shove a pork chop down my throat. As long as you are healthy, I wouldn't put much into it.

And, my brother who works out all the time, has a six-pack and everything. His doctor told him that he was obese according to some chart. Nonsense.

Well, 112 does not seem too low for someone that is 5'0-5'1; but 140 doesn't seem too high either, at least not obese. Maybe shoot somewhere in the middle?
