I have several reasons for this goal. First, that's 10 lbs a month. While its over the recommendation, I think it's pretty doable (especially considering my age is 19). I don't eat 100% healthy, but I watch calories, lift 3x per week, and I'm walking around all the time as a college student so I think that's good? Anyway I'd like 2/3 of my weight off by Christmas and I was wondering if anyone else wanted to go for it too? Any ideas on how to go about it beyond what I'm doing?
I've gotta get it off as I am in ROTC and I've gotta pass my military physical in Jan (if I get to 160's I can avoid boot camp). Also I'm getting an IUD than so I'd like to have a lot of lbs gone before my progression slows. What are your reasons? Anyone else in a similar boat and want to go for it too? We can encourage each other. Be serious about it though.
Killerbee, I understand you 100% I am older, not so much wiser and a former police officer. Twenty three years of stress regarding the physical assessment tests. I understand why you want to drop the weight by Christmas and that is about how much I want to lose too. Sounds like you are on the right track. Avoid sugars and diet drinks, and limit alcohol intake (not so easy if you live on campus). Drink lots of water, and burn more calories (cardio program) are my suggestions on top of what you are doing. I need to lose about 43 by then. I need to focus more on planned meals (no fast food) and initiate a regular cardio routine into my hectic life.

You have age on your side so I agree it's doable. I'm 56 now, and when I lost 50 pounds 2 years ago my pace was 5 pounds per month. When I was your age, however, I lost 40 pounds in 4 months by eating 1,500 cals per day without any exercise.
I only have 20lbs to lose and I'm aiming for 5 lbs a month (I'm a little older and lose slowly) but I totally think you can do it and would love to cheer you on!
PS - I'm trying to lose weight for my wedding..I dont have as good a reason as you! Also I just really want to be strong and fit, I'm really out of shape.
I would like to join you in this. I'm a little worried that it would be aiming a bit too high for me though. I'm 23, but I've just about started exercising and counting calories. I have a wedding to attend in January and I'd love to have lost a bunch of weight by then.
Oh this is GREAT!!! Def my goal as well! My bday is in december and I want to look and feel great!! Last decemeber I went to Hawaii with fam and friends and was embarrassed/annoyed because of my weight so I want this year to be different, and if may be the first year I actually celebrate my bday!! (after 25 yrs!!!) lol
But yes, totally on board with this plan!! I've been around 170-173 for the past 3 months so I'm done waiting, time to see these numbers go down!!
I am thinking I will join you all in this. I am quite a bit older than most of you, but I really need the motivation and jump to get even close to where I need to be in Feb for my wedding.
So lets do this!!!
I am going to calorie count and walk every other day at least.

How do we feel about weight training, helpful??
J
I don't have access to any weight training machines or anything, but I do have 5lbs weights that I use to do random exercises out of 30ds with!! Hopefully it helps?
Just curious, what calorie limit are you guys staying within? I am thoroughly and completely confused about how much I'm supposed to eat to lose weight lol.
I use an app, lose it, it gives a target recommendation. You can adjust up or down from there to get results you are looking for. When I pay close attention it works for me. My biggest challenge is sugar and bread, love them, need to lay off, even if it fits. It just sets me up to crave more...
Alright, glad to hear you are all in on this! I will be sure to post my own updates on regular basis as well as any other suggestions and helpful motivation I can provide. Feel free to do the same!
As far as what I do calorie wise is I try to do around 1,500 on a normal day. I've heard as a female one should not go lower than 1,200. The rest is pretty much based on height/weight/activity level as to how many calories you should have per day. Subtract 500 from your normal intake for each lb you want to lose per week. I personally also use a system where 2 days out of the week I only eat around 600-800 calories per day. It's not much and its pretty hard (under the recommended amount), but I've found this calorie shifting to speed up weight loss a bit (3.5 lbs last week). Of course this will vary per person but it has been shown to helpful and not harmful. Plus it means you can have a few extra calories on other days, or have a few meals off. Just do what you can manage.
I have also found lifting to be helpful if you can do it. I can't personally speak much for the physical results but the amount that I am able to lift has increased since I started about a month ago. I lift 2-3 times a week for around an hour. I bench, but most of what I do is stuff that I can do on my own. I recommend it because we are aiming to lose a bit more weight in a smaller timeframe so it will help prevent skin issues. Not to mention, having a toned body will make you look much better regardless of how much you lose. I also walk over 10,000 steps everyday so any exercise is better than none.
This thread gets me really pumped to stay on plan! Today is my first day of laying off of the agave/mayo/heavy salad dressings and so far so good, but I am a bit cranky about it lol, just have to suck it up and hope it gets better!
Good luck everyone!! We should all post our new low weights when we get there, that is always motivating!!
Oh and another question, how much water are you guys drinking/day??
I started drinking a lot of water recently, water with ice (noticed I can drink a lot more when it has ice opposed to room temp), and I've drank about 98 ounces so far today, is that too much?? I noticed I actually feel dehydrated if I don't drink this much, but I'm also going to the bathroom ALL the time!! It's kind of annoying Thoughts?
I have lost 3 lbs this week (and even though I don't update) its put me on track since that is pretty much the the number I will need to reach this goal.
