Talking Music

I thought I'd start a thread about one of my favorite things, music.

What types do you like? Do you play it? Is it therapeutic for you?

For me, I play guitar and I have 3 guitars: Hope, my black Epiphone dreadnought acoustic, Rapture, my second black Epiphone acoustic with a pretty pic guard, and Bliss, my reddish/mahogany colored wood Gretsch electromatic! I started playing guitar after I was inpatient in a psych hospital and saw a cool tech play his guitar, it inspired me to want to learn and play. So upon my discharge, I picked up Hope, my first guitar which looks similar to his and for awhile she just sat around collecting dust, then I met a friend whose brother gives me lessons sometimes. He is a really and nice guy and accomplished musician and a great teacher. I don't take lessons as often as I used to and I am a bit lazy in practicing but I find it very therapeutic. My teacher says I am an intermediate guitarist and I have played in front of my family and in front of friends twice.

I have over 2,000 songs on my iPhone, tons of CDs, and a lot of music on my computer. I find that music speaks to my heart and my emotions. I love music!

I want to advance in guitar and perhaps join a band some day if I can ever get over my stage fright.

Do you like music, what types, do you play, etc???

Rock on!

Music is my life! I listen to a lot of different stuff, anything but rap or hip hop really. I'm currently obsessed with Mumford & Sons, anything Chris Thile touches, OneRepublic, Snow Patrol, Glen Hansard, & various country artists.

Through the course of my life, I've sang in choirs (school & church) & played the flute, piano, & guitar. My ADHD never allowed me to stick with instruments for very long, but I really wish I had continued playing. Especially the piano, I loved it & I think I would have become really good at it. I'll always find somewhere to sing though. Singing is my most favorite thing.

Besides my son music is pretty much my life. I have always felt a strong connection with songs and also find it very theraputic. I date a musician (perfect for me! ) and I/we see more live shows a year than I can count. He's currently finishing up a CD which I have watched the process from the beginning which is really neat...and exhausting at times having to listen to demos over and over. There's more work that goes into writing/recording/producing than I ever imagined.

My list of bands is extremely long but I am a huge fan of classic rock and progressive...some metal and a few indie. Top fav bands are Pink Floyd and Rush. I also love TOOL. I don't listen to the radio at all anymore.

I love music like I'd love my own child lmao. It's kind of a cop out to say I like everything, but I've yet to find a genre that didn't have anything appealing to me. My iPod has around 11,000 songs, some of which are doubles in mixes I'm sure but still. I've got everything from opera to metal, though for the past couple of years or so I've been heavily favoring the indie folk genre. Therapeutic is an understatement - it's literally the only thing that can pull me out of a really bad mood most days. I've dabbled in piano and flute (I'd say guitar but I never got much past Smoke on the Water haha), but I'm far from a musician as far as instruments go... singing, however, is definitely in my top five favorite things to do

EDIT: Rachel! Instrument twins! Lol also epic bands.

I used to be very in tune (pun!) with music and it just sort of "fell away" like so many things in life. Funny how some things that are so prominent in your life go away over time.

In high school I played the piano for our chorus, played numerous instruments, and sang. I can pretty much tell you which note it is as soon as it's played. I have a piano downstairs, but can count the number of times I've played it on one hand.

As for ipod stuff....

I'm old so I love 80's music, industrial, heavy metal or oldies classics. I have a particular fondness for certain musical scores such as Cats or the Lion King. Classical wise, I really enjoy Vivaldi and Clementi's piano sonatinas (which are fun as **** to play if you've done it.)

I listen to metal and hard rock, mainly 80s/early 90s glam metal, but also some thrash, power and good old heavy metal. My favorite band is Mötley Crüe. My favorite singer is Bret Michaels, both solo and with Poison.

I do listen to other things from time to time, and my favorite non-metal artist right now is Kate Voegele.

Oh, and 90s pop is my biggest guilty pleasure

I like a pretty wide range of music. For example two favorites are Shpongle and Holcombe Waller.

I love music! When I listen to a song, I get immersed in it and if my husband changes the station, I get mad at him for it! He knows that he can pick just about anything, but once he decides, he needs to commit to the entire song. Hehehehe!

My favorite all time band is Pink Floyd but I enjoy Beastie Boys, Abba, Donna Summer, Scorpions, Beyonce, Green Day, Linkin Park, etc...the list is long but I basically can listen and enjoy almost any genre with the exception of Country. Sorry bout that!

We have very similar tastes in music. I listen to all forms of rock/metal, but 80's hair/glam metal is probably my favorite. My favorite hair metal cd is Wildside - Under the Influence. That album should have been huge! Sample

Lately I've been listening to Precious Metal. Their cover of Bruce Springsteen's Two Hearts is really good: Two Hearts
