Default Shrink Waist, Shrink! Fellow Apple Shapes - when did your waist shrink?

I am such an apple shape. I carry almost all my fat in my abdomen. Not only is that the unhealthiest place to have fat, but I think its the least physically attractive - I have a big belly and chicken legs. As I lose weight, the waists on my pants are not really getting looser. The butt/legs definitely have shrunk a little though - and the crotch of the pants is too long (I think that's called the "rise"). Just not the waist!!! With a measuring tape, I have maybe lost 1/2" from my waist but because different positions give different results, there is definitely some measurement error going on too so its hard to tell with that little bit of shrinkage.

I'm dying to go down a pants size .... Rationally, I know if I keep going, my belly will eventually shrink - but my irrational feelings feel like it will never shrink.

Please tell me that eventually your belly started shrinking?

I have lost over 100 pounds. I am down 2 pant sizes. Barely. the 28's are still snug. Same thing, everything gets loose in the seat, legs, rise... not the waistband. It's extremely frustrating, especially when I have essentially 2 bellies that protrude in a b shape.

Eventually they go. I'm just now starting to see my lower one pull up.

Have no fear, it will shrink indeed! My stomach has lost inches slower than just about anywhere, and is still my problem area. It took, what seemed like, so long to go down pant sizes, but it WILL happen. I've lost over a foot around my tummy from the first time I measured, and it's the only place I feel I still have some to lose.

My stomach is so round and barely separates from my bust line. I look so pregnant which I'm not. When I lose some of this weight bulk my size 12 pants surely will slide off since my gut is what makes my pants tight.

I have been hiding from the camera for so long that I finally took a picture today, just so I would have a before and after photo to share later.

I have the same issue. At least I have nice legs without an cellulite? I'm looking for a bright side, here.

I also have some abdominal separation and you might, too. Some of it is from pregnancy but much of it is from carrying all my weight in the middle for so long. I have heard there are specific exercises to heal this separation so your abdominal muscles properly act like a girdle and hold together. Obviously these exercises do not spot reduce fat or give you a six pack, but they help heal close the gap and pull your waist in. Google "diastasis recti" and you'll find some info.

I'm sort of an hourglass apple. That's me in my avatar at about 160ish. On me, the weight from about the high 170s to 160 comes mostly from my waist. I think it's different for everyone, but sometimes these pounds are the last few to leave. It's like they're holding on like grim death! UGH!

My waist really didn't start shrinking until I lost around 35 pounds. Then, WHAM, I lost like 5 inches in just a couple of months. My waist now is 7 inches smaller than it was when I started my weight loss effort. I still have a big belly, though. I think that while it will continue to shrink, it won't ever go away.

Yes, the silver lining is I have great lean legs! (though I still have inner thigh chub rub - but that's just how I'm built - I had it as a normal weight child too).

You know - funny you mention abdominal separation. Just today I was looking at my stomach and thinking that maybe if I work to strengthen my core, I can help help train my body to pull in everything naturally.

I was noticing that my stomach fat may be a bit more "squishy" today so maybe a woosh of loss is coming. Thank you everyone for your advice and moral support!!

Totally unpredictable. I was a barrel at the beginning and lost most in my abdomen first. Then that stopped. Due to exercising I was left with a triple roll in the middle and an emerging 6-pack on the outside. Just the last couple of weeks something happened. I barely lost anything on the scale, but somehow my abdominal fat that I was holding onto has melted. Pretty much disappeared. I take it.

I am pretty much at the higher end of my goal and still have " apple" issues. I think strength training will help this a lot. At this point I am a smaller version of my old self and the apple is slowly looking more more like a rectangle but those apple issues remain. Better than before , but skinny fat for sure and carry extra weight in the mid section. Dressing my shape properly helps too.

I wish you could spot reduce but you cant.

I have lost 108 pounds (I'm at 196) and in jeans I'm *just* fitting into a 16 misses (I think it's misses, anyway).

It just takes a really long time!

I wish I had measured my waist at 360 pounds, my highest. What I do know was that there was no way 26/28 jeans would even begin to fit me.

I might have tried to figure out an exact number when I was at 285 but the fact that the new 60" measuring tape I'd just bought wouldn't even fit around my belly? That was just disheartening.

I didn't start measuring until until May of last year, when I was at 254 and my waist was at 51". In October, I was 233 pounds and had a 48" waist. I'm currently at 213 and have a 45" inch waist.

I'm definitely an apple. Losing my belly is crazy slow, but it is happening. It will for you too
