Default Thin4Life - May 12, 2003

Welcome to a new week. Hope all of you moms were appropriately pampered and honoured yesterday. I phoned mine last evening and was so happy that I did because my card had not yet arrived from Maui. Hopefully she'll get it sometime this week.

A fairly quiet weekend. Slept a bit more than usual. Am hoping that my body clock has finally reset itself.

What's shaking with all of you this week? Just the usual for me - a busy work week, a few evening commitments. Am getting my hair cut at a new place on Thursday nite. I'm a little apprehensive about starting over with a new stylist, but the rates just got totally out of hand at the other salon.

My mom, three sisters and three-year-old niece are coming to visit on the weekend. Actually, they won't all be staying with me but between my sister and I, we'll make sure they have a place to sleep and no doubt lots to eat. Should be fun!

Good afternoon!

Susan: Thanks for getting the thread up and running!

I had a busy weekend although it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Saturday I worked at WW in the morning and the afternoon was spent hunting for a new dress shirt for DS #1 to wear to the prom on Friday. Sunday was nice. DH got up early and got bagels for breakfast and the afternoon was spent with my mom hunting for bargains at the mall. She had success in getting some slacks and tops. I bought a new pair of sneakers and 2 purses. I just couldn't pass them up The boys dug up some plants I've been wanting to move and they got me some beautiful flowers in a vase. All in all it was a good day.

I'm continuing to workout with my WATP tapes. This morning I was a little short on time so I did the 1 mile walk and even though it's a short tape I'm able to work up a sweat. I also went through my old journals and noticed that I'm lacking in the milk area and my choices are basically the same things day in and day out. I'm shaking things up this week so we'll see if the scale moves in the right direction. Persistence! It's way too easy to get into a rut and not climb out.

The week is going to be busy--tomorrow DS #2 goes back to the eye doctor to see how things are and we'll have the results of the CT scan. I figure no news is good news. I'm working Tues/Thurs at WW and on Saturday DH has their rugby tournament along with the Highland Games. (No, he's not playing!) I'm looking forward to the Highland games because they usually have crafts and they have a booth that sells sausage rolls and tea....as long as the scale is moving in the right direction I'll treat myself.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Melissa: That's a great strategy - shake things up in the eating department and see what happens. I can't imagine that you'll need to do much to get the numbers moving in the right direction. Please keep us updated regarding DS#2. As you've said, no news is probably good news.

I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with a menu for Saturday nite when my family is in town. I won't have much time to prepare anything; have my volunteer visit with the babies on Saturday afternoon for 3 hours. That means most of the work has to be done before that. Am considering 2 different kinds of lasagne - a spring veggie one and a mediterranean - both from Cooking Light magazine.

My jeans are tight this morning. I need to lose 5 lbs. to feel "normal".

Hi Susan and Melissa.

This week is full of meetings at work and outside of work. On Saturday my DH and I will see a play that has a bunch of our theater friends in it. That should be fun. Before that is a pool party.

This past weekend, I was an eating machine. I don't know what got into me. I just kept eating and eating. Needless to say, I still have that pesky 2# from vacation. It's not going anywhere when I eat as I have been.

Susan, I think make ahead lasagnas are great ideas. There are some great recipes out there. If yours turn out well, pass on the recipe. You might also want to grill something. That can be quick and easy. I marinated pork tenderloins and made them on the grill last night--yummy.

Melissa, I hope your son is doing better. Is he still seeing double? That would be horrible.

Domina: Don't despair too much about the weekend binge. I'm sure you'll get back on track and get rid of the excess soon.

Melissa: What was the verdict from the doctor? Hope everything is on track for a full recovery. How goes the eating shake-up?

I'm a little discouraged with my own weight situation. I haven't attended a meeting since January, and the scale can attest to that. I'm a full five pounds over where I should be, making me about 12 pounds above my personal goal. I really need to attend a meeting and make a fresh start. Can't do that this week but I'm gonna seriously consider weighing in and starting over next week. I feel pudgey and sluggish.

Domina: I have weekends where I eat and eat and eat like there's no tomorrow and I get upset with myself. The beauty part is that I can start fresh the next day. Weekends are rough for me and I do the best I can.

Susan: I'm finding I feel more satisfied now that I'm getting a little more protein and a good mix with my lunch. I've been able to stay around 20-21 points a day which is good. I'm continuing to do my WATP tapes. My WI today was good; I was down 1.2#. I would've liked it if it was a little more but I'll take it. It's just frustrating that the scale isn't moving as quickly as I'd like it to!

As far as my son goes...we are being referred to a pediatric opthamalogist. He is still seeing double, depending on which way his head is...evidently his eyes aren't lining up right. THe doctor said that he might have to have a prism put in his glasses or else he might need surgery to do something with the muscle. The doctor we saw yesterday hadn't received the CT scan results so he was going to have them faxed to him and then call me. We have another follow up with him in June to check his eye pressure. In the meantime we'll wait to hear about his next appointment.

The weather is better here today--sunny & cool--much better than the rain & cold we've been experiencing the past 2 days.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Hi everyone,

I'm home for 16 hours and then gone again.

Melissa- I am hoping the DS is going to be okay. Does he seem to be in good spirits?

Susan --
lasagne is a good thing. Serve with a big salad and you are done.

Sounds like you have a houseful!

Domina --
How are things in sunny FL?

Nothing doing here, spent the week in meetings in DC, ate okay, drank too much (at night) and exercised. I'm leaving tonight for California for meetings and to see mom and dad!

I'll post this weekend!

Good morning!

I spoke with DS #2's doctor yesterday afternoon and he said he has a "superior oblique palsy"...generally found in trauma cases. He said it may get better but time is the best healer so we're going to see him in June and then we'll see the specialist. I'm hoping it fixes itself. DS is in good spirits and doesn't complain too much about the double vision, or should I say, at least not to me

I'll be out of the office today because I got called in for jury duty--just what I need along with everything else that's going on!

I was down 1.2# this week at WI, I wish it were better but I'll take it. I know stress is playing a factor in my not losing. I can really tell I didn't get my trip to Florida this year!

Happy Friday everyone! Anyone have any plans? We're heading out to the Highland Games on Saturday. There will be 7 rugby teams competing--no, DH is not playing....he'll be a spectator this year. Not much else happening. Tonight is DS #1's prom *sigh* I feel old. Catch everyone a little later!
