Default And this is why we don't skip out on going the gym.

Confession:

Monday was my first trip to the gym since before Thanksgiving. Yikes!! All I can say is that life got in the way during the holidays, and now that everything's calmed down and gotten back into a routine, I'm back and revamped!

I did weights for the first time since the last time I went to the gym, and this is where we get the inspiration for this thread:

The last time prior to today that I did a lifting-session, I was at 100lbs on the rope-pull down machine. Today I bumped it down to 80 thinking that, sure, I might have had a little step back, but I was WRONG! I couldn't even get the 80lbs to move! I had to bump it down to 40.

40lbs. down from 100. Talk about a kick in the butt! I pretty much have to start all over. Part of me is kinda glad because I was not confident in my efforts at all before and so I'm glad I have a chance to fix the areas I wasn't secure in before, but I'm definitely kicking myself for throwing away all of the progress I'd made!

Moral of this story: plain and simple -- DON'T DO THAT! =D

Bet you will gain back the strength much sooner this time, though!!! But yes, good point that there is a price to pay for skipping our workouts.

Glad you're getting back into it and with such a good attitude! Something times we do have to fall off for a little bit just to realize how good it feels when we're spot on!

I had major surgery in April of last year and had to take a full month off of everything. I expected my cardio/endurance to be hugely effected, so I was surprised when I was given the okay and went out and easily ran 3 miles - like I had never taken a day off.

I then went to weight lift and was SHOCKED at how much strength I lost. Yeah, it sure doesn't take long for the body to lose that ability. The good news is that it came back pretty fast for me and will for you, too!
