Default always tired

I am new to the calorie counting world. My biggest issues seems to be that I'm tired all the time. Mind you I don't get enough sleep as it is, but before I started this weight loss journey it wasn't this bad.

I'm on a regimine of 1200-1550 calories a day with 135-252 carbs, 27-60 fats and 60-136 proteins. Those are in grams.

All of which I am in the proper range of, almost always the higher end of that. I'm not sure if I'm just not balancing my meals well enough or what.. any thoughts ?

I am not surprised that you are always tired, as that is extremely low calories. But I wish you all success in your weight loss

This ^ 1200 is the absolute bare mininum you should be eating, but at your height and weight you should be eating more...


I'm getting numbers between 1800-1900 for your BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate) and you shouldn't really be eating below that, even when dieting...

My BMR is around 1700...I usually burn 400-500 calories at the gym when I work out, so I eat most of those calories back, usually sticking to around 2000 a day while losing...When I dip below 1800 I have no energy, my workouts lag, and I'm exaused...

Play around with your calorie amount...

Ya that would totally make sense. however I've never only eaten the 1200. The lowest I've had is 1486, and I wasnt feeling very well. I'm used to a life of crappy foods, all processed, pre-packaged and eating whenever i want; whatever I want. I'm a boredum and emotional snacker. I don't feel.. hungry or starved at all. In fact I feel like I'm getting enough for my body.

I'm thinking I might have a possible thyroid problem.

I am also doing 1500 calories a day. I feel very tired. I am sleeping better but feel sleepy all day.

I'm tired all the time, totally unrelated to dieting.
I do not get restful sleep, it sucks!

Not too long ago, I watched a program with Dr. Oz. He mentioned that magnesium is a good nutrient to give you energy and to eat 3 foods a day high in magnesium at different times in the day. Some of the foods he mentioned were eggs, spinache, nuts, banannas. There were a few more but I cant remember them. I try to include 3 out of the four of these in my diet every day. Its Friday and I am not as tired as I use to be ! But, I dont count calories, as I do weight watchers and its easy to work these foods into my diet and have a weight lose.

lack of iron and B12 will make you tired; iron is especially a problem with women. And I agree with the others that say up your calories some.

I think that you need to record exactly what you're eating for about a week and then look through a list of what you need nutritionally and see if you're covering it. There are many great books on nutrition that list what vitamins you need daily or weekly.

If you're not getting all that you need you can look through a list of vitamins and minerals and write a list of what foods you like that contain them in the foods that you actually eat. Under vitamin C you could list strawberries but not oranges if you don't eat them. So then you can google these ingredients that you like and immediately come up with some meals containing them to get the right vitamins that you need.

If there are vitamins you need in foods that you don't like you can take supplements to cover that gap. If you get a hand blender you can easily make smoothies also that zone in on what you're lacking. B vitamins, iron and zinc deficiencies are the most common that result in tiredness.

Don't forget quantities of protein and fiber too are vital. You'll feel tired and have rubbish hair if you don't get enough protein and without enough fiber we can't digest food efficiently so we can get low on nutrients that way.

Water is something that dieters often lack that can give energy. We get a lot of water from our food and when we cut down on food we rarely think to eat more.

If this doesn't work then you may need to up your calorie intake.
