Default BFL and cycling

I am on day 13 of BFL and I need some advice on combining cycling and the BFL workouts.

I am an avid cyclist and now that spring is here, I should be biking to/from work - which would give me about 40 kms per day. I need to build up some serious mileage since I am doing the bike leg of a team half Ironman on Aug 30.

My question is this: How do I reconcile the two programs? Is it as simple as forgetting the BFL cardio but keeping up with the weight training?

Part of my cycle training is intervals, so I can get that in, but I am wondering about the frequency of my cycling - if I follow my cycling training plan, I would be cycling every day, and extra long rides on Saturday (1.5 -2 hours).

Any suggestions from those of you who have been doing BFL for a while

Thanks

Kifou

Kifou -

I'm no expert and hopefully some of the ladies with more BFL experience will add their .02...

I'm just starting C2 of BFL and have been adding alot more running than just the 20 mins cardio - have been alternating 20 mins intervals on the treadmill with longer runs outside (usually 5 - 10 k). Haven't had any problem, although I'm sure if I weren't doing the extra cardio I would be making more dramatic progress on my strength gains on my weights. That's the trade off I've made, because it's important for me personally to do the running.

If you're going to be doing that much more cardio, I think you're going to have to pay special attention to two things: you have to get extra protein in to make sure you're not burning muscle (more than 1 gram per pound of body weight), and keep an eye on your lifting strength to make sure you're not losing ground. If you find you can't make strength progress you're going to have to cut back on the biking, IMO.

Good luck with your Ironman race!
