Just wanted to post that today I finished the Couch to 5k running program and ran a 5k (3.1 miles). Actually, 3.17 to be exact on the outside course near my house.
I can't believe that on April 1st, I could barely run 1 minute and today I did a 5K in a little over 36 minutes. Not very fast but I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!
Last year this time, I was over 280 pounds and in a size 22-24 (mostly 24s) and really couldn't do anything to strenuous. Today, I ran more than 3 miles
I was supposed to do a 5k run for a community group tomorrow. However, my husband's grandmother passed and I need to prepare to travel. At first, I was slightly bummed but then realized that I can still run the 5K distance on my own. First, I tracked the course twice in my car (which said the course was 3.22 miles). Then, I tracked with Endomondo (the app) and it said the course was 3.20 miles. I decided I could do it- even though it wasn't an official race.
I think it still counts and I am so excited to GRADUATE and to have ran a 5K distance. I may still pick up my race packet and T-shirt because I think I still deserve it (and I paid for it)
Things I learned:
1) My body can do more than I give it credit for
2) Like weight loss, running is mental. If I can beat the mental battle, I've won the war.
3) I may not be as fast/good/slim/skilled as some and that's okay. If I hang in there, I will reach my goal MY WAY and ON MY TIME. I may not be the fastest but I'm doing a lot better than the people still on the couch!!!
4) Ignore people. I was so concerned people would be looking, laughing, etc. I realized that no one paid me any attention. Instead, I got TONS of warm reassuring smiles and nods.
5) I can do all things through Christ!!!!! (I prayed this a lot).
REALLY EXCITED TODAY AND HAD TO SHARE
