Can't wait for TOM!

  • This month my PMS has been really out of control. I've felt unwell for the past ten days (the duration of the yellow pills in my BCP pack), have been incredibly bloated, tired, irritable and just generally unhappy about life. My weight loss has stalled, and the scale has even inched up despite an overall calorie deficit for these 10 days.

I've been waiting excitedly to feel motivated and human again during TOM. I'm going to the gym tonight after my stomach settles down from dinner, but I'm not looking forward to it at all. Usually when TOM starts I can feel a flip switch in my brain; I'm really anticipating that in the next couple days.

Anyone else out there who does better during TOM than before? Anyone have tips for overcoming lethargy and bad feelings during PMS (I drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep but I feel so exhausted that working out is painful)?
  • I've never really suffered from PMS, besides cramping sometimes. I've also never felt emotional and I don't really notice any significant water retention that releases when TOM is over. I see both gains and losses before, during and after TOM. There's no real consistency where my weight is concerned. However, your comment about fatigue gave me something to think about.

I wonder if a supplement that's supposed to help with female hormones, like something that contains maca root, would help balance things a little bit. Have you thought about maybe trying a different BCP?
  • I don't suffer from PMS either.. I think I get happier if anything. Then again, I never get cramps but my back does start aching a little. Don't worry about your weight too much.. When I was on it this month, my weight fluctuated from 152-155, but I'm back down to 152 again (:

    Hope you feel better!

This month is the first time the idea has crossed my mind. This is the second one I've tried and, overall, I've been really pleased. I'll give it at least another month to see if this is just a fluke or the trend of where my PMS is headed. I don't think I can stand to have a third of each month eaten up by crappy feelings!

I'm not sure what kind of supplements I can get here, but your post reminds me that I should start taking my "women's" multivitamin every day like I'm meant to!
  • I get crappy PMS quite a lot since I got a copper coil especially. I'm there right now actually, sore and tired. I still exercise but don't push myself as much as I would normally, and be careful if you're hurting yourself! No need to do that, just do something more gentle.
  • I'm also waiting for my TOM! The first day sucks and I don't do anything, but after that I am ready to kick butt and I can control my eating so much better. Mine should be coming in the next few days. Then I can get rid of this bloating and for some reason I pee like crazy which helps drop pounds. I guess everyone is different.
  • i am somewhat the same.. my "PMS" includes a heavy desire for chocolate and just food in general. but then, once TOM actually comes, I go back to being completely normal. (also..i don't seem to get that slight weight gain once TOM arrives either .. )
