My Cuisinart blender has died and I need a replacement for protein shakes. I'm looking for one that can do a good job of crushing ice because I make my shakes with PP, water, and ice. Any recommendations?
2) an Osterizer with a stainless steel blender jar.
I actually use the Hand Blender much more since it's easier to clean. And it does a great job of crushing ice too. However, I do enjoy my Osterizer - I've been using it for two years now and highly recommend it. It doesn't have a lot of settings - just a 'toggle switch' (I always hate cleaning between all those little buttons).
If I had the BUCKS I would definitely get a Vita-Mix blender - that is such a cool item. When we would go to conventions with Dad, the company booth would almost always be positioned next to the Vita-Mix booth and it was really neat to see and taste the goodies they whipped up - frozen yogurt, peanut butter, bread (well at least the dough anyway - they would start with whole grains!), soup...cool item.
I have the Vita-Mix and use it for just about everything. It is price though.. It has a whole in the top which "vents" it so you can even pour hot liquids in.. great for pureeing soup. Also, you can sub in a plunger like thing (ok, it's early and I'm not awake enough to figure out what it's called exactly :lol) if it is a thick shake and in need of intervention.
Meg, when my Cuisinart broke I sent it in and they fixed it for free.
I want the next one I get to have a metal part (instead of plastic) on the base-that little black thing that goes around..it has a name but I never remember it. That is what usually breaks first.
I have just a Braun hand blender, and I make LOTS of shakes with ice. My first one lasted a year before the motor burned out, but the part with the blade was fine. Now I have 2 blade portions so one can be in the dishwasher while I'm using the other.
Thank you for all of the suggestions. I checked out the VitaMix web site -- wow! a two HP motor! DH says you could cut the grass with it! Now THAT is the Mother Of All Blenders.
But a bit pricey -- I think I'll try the hand blender and see how that goes (but keep the VitaMix in mind).
Meg
PS -- Deb: unfortunately, I'm out of warranty with the current one.
