stop "trying" - don't "try". DO. if you "try", you are allowing the possibily - nay, the *probability* of failure. its a set up so later on you can say "well, i TRIED".
and quit "hoping" - KNOW. "hoping" is basically saying it's going to happen or it won't and it's really got nothing to do with anything you want.
DO your routine.
KNOW you will get results.
if you are doing your routine and you are not getting results - any results, even if they're not as dramatic as you predicted - then either the routine needs to be tweaked (not unusual) or you haven't had a checkup by the dr and there are details you need to be aware of that are impeding your progress.
DO your routine EVERY DAY. if you slip up, so what - keeping doing it.
Every day I think my attempts at weight loss is just hopeless.
And every day I log my food and try to keep within my calorie budget.
And every week I manage to lose a little.
This has been going on for over a year now.
And I have been losing weight all that time too.
It's funny that I still keep thinking it's hopeless.
I'll probably think I am stuck in a hopeless situation right up to the time I finally hit my goal!
"So many of our dreams at first seem impossible,
then they seem improbable,
and then, when we summon the will,
they soon become inevitable."

You sound like that wise old Jedi - Yoda. One of my favorite quotes was when Luke's X-Wing was in the bog and he said he would try to get it out using the force. Yoda says, "Try not. Do, or do not. There is no 'try'." I "try" to remember this when anything gets difficult.
yep - thing i noticed is that ppl are quick to quote but it's almost like it's off the top of their brains. they don't actually THINK about what it MEANS.
it's like that song "the kid is hot tonight". i remember an interview on the radio with the band and the lead said he found it quite irritating that everybody belts out "the kid is hot tonight!" but then it's like the next line doesn't even exist "but where will he be tomorrow?".
we're all so quick to have faith in religion, faith in the govt, faith in vaccinations, faith in medicine - but we don't have faith in ourselves.
faith is the exact opposite of hope - faith is *knowing* in the absence of proof or even in the presence of proof that denies.
religious ppl KNOW their god will rise, will save, will whatever.
too many parent KNOW that vaccines are good for their kids and that circumcision is a perfectly harmless cosmetic procedure.
too many pet owner KNOW that spaying and neutering has all kinds of health and behavioural benefits.
they believe in the face of mounting evidence that it ain't necessarily so -
but they don't have faith in the person who looks back from the mirror every morning and that's not acceptable.

Absolutely true. Belief is a huge part of success, visualizing yourself succeeding and framing everything in definite terms (when, not if.) is really crucial to my weight loss and fitness. All my days consists of are a series of choices and action that cumulatively give me my success or failure. I choose success.
I do like they do in A.A. and just think about today. I've got over 200 pounds to lose, but I'm not thinking about that. I'm thinking about what I can do today. All I can do today is eat the right amount of calories worth of good, nourishing food. I live each day with patience and gratitude, and every day is a little bit better than the last.

I must be an oddball, but at 52 years old, stretch marks, sagging skin, girls that have gone further south than the equator, when I look at myself in the mirror, I think I look dang good!
I am totally guilty of getting out of the shower in the morning and checking it out the progress from my weight loss and weight lifting and thinking WOO HOO! I'm hot!
