Default Soy and PCOS what do you believe?

There are some studies out there that say the phytoestrogens in Soy are supposed to help improve estrogen and testosterone levels in those of us with PCOS. Other studies say the phytoestrogens can harm us and just add to our estrogen problem. I personally LOVE soy products especially soy milk. I don't drink cows milk at all and rice and almond milk make my insulin spike too much. Which side do you believe?

Quite a bit of the US soy crop is GMO.

So I avoid in my general effort to avoid pesticide, GMO, and hormone load as a PCOS patient. I can't do it 100%, but where I can I try.

What little I do eat is usually organic tofu, organic yuba, organic soy sauce -- mainly because I'm part chinese and it's part of the food culture.

I don't have PCOS but since i started menopause I've found that any soy at all makes my hot flashes worse. Even the tiny bit of soy in most chocolates is a problem. Since I've gone 100% soy free my hot flashes have pretty much gone away.

Soy upsets my stomach, I just don't feel right when I eat it.

I can handle miso soup (fermented soy) with no problem, and I use tamari (type of soy sauce).

But I can't do edamame, tofu, etc. I don't like tempeh, but everyone tells me that I can probably eat it because it's also fermented. The times I've had it, I haven't enjoyed it.

Personally? I stay away.

P.S. I'll add too that my PCOS is not related to excess estrogen, if that helps.

Interesting. For me the soy seems to make me feel better. Its yummy and I feel full. I can easily have a glass of soymilk as a snack.

I had to quit soy a couple years ago when I discovered I was seriously sensitive to it. Can't have any form of it. I guess my body voted on my behalf.

What kind of symptoms did you have?

I sorta try to avoid eating/drinking the nonfermented soy along with corn, cause I figure I am ingesting it regularly anyways since its in most packaged food lol (I drink diet hot chocolate, some sauces, prob a few other things and eggs from the farmer's market-pasture raised, but I've had a hard time finding chicken's w/o soy feed). If I did regularly have soy products, I'd probably be consuming a double whammy of soy.
