Default Need breakfast ideas...

Hi all,
I need some healthy breakfast ideas, which include NO meat in any form and also NO milk. I am at my wits end here, thinking up wht to hv for my breakfast and at times end up hvng none at all or a slice of bread or a kellog's bar, all of which are insufficient, considering tht i go to the gym after this and workout ofr an hour or so.
so, i need a breakfast tht is not too heavy, easy to do and not very costly but providing enough energy to sustain me till lunch tht is around 1.30 PM. Also, was wondering if i can hv something for my post workout snack. As of now, 2 slice of bread sustain me till lunch time , but then i feel totally drained...

I'm assuming that 'no meat in any form' includes eggs?

This might sound weird, but one of my favorite breakfasts is red lentil soup. I put lots of spices in to make it very tasty, and I usually put in some garbanzos and some spinach or chard as well. I'm not vegan so I top it with a big spoonful of plain yogurt and it is really GOOD. Super delicious. It fits within my calories (under 300), is nutritionally rich, and keeps me full and happy for hours. I make a batch every once in a while and heat quickly for breakfast in the mornings.

Your breakfasts don't have to be standard American breakfast food--especially if you don't eat meat or dairy. Anything at all can be breakfast.

(If anyone wants, I can post the whole recipe.)

You need protein! I eat plain instant oatmeal with fresh berries and a hard boiled egg most mornings. I also make protein shakes with whey powder, berries, plain Greek yogurt, and 1/2 banana. The protein keeps me full longer and I don't feel the crash. You could also try protein bars. They're fast and easy.

if it's just before working out I'd just have a piece a fruit. otherwise, I like to have a piece or 2 of cinnamon raisin ezekiel bread with 1-2 tablespoons of almond butter, sometimes I also slice it with banana. not sure if this would be too heavy before a workout though.

there's also soy yogurt and coconut yogurt that taste really good and you could have that with a piece of fruit.

My favorite go to breakfast when I'm in a hurry (on work days and such) Is a packet of instant oatmeal and a serving of Cream of Wheat all mized together with a spoonful of chopped pecans and almonds, a spoon of dried berries, a drizzle of honey and sometimes 2 spoons of applesauce. Sometimes I'll add sliced banana for extra boost. It keeps me full for a while, I normally don't feel hungr until about half a hour before lunch when I eat this. and it take 5 minutes to throw together.

Oatmeal is great for workout energy and about as cheap as you can get.

Apple or banana with peanut butter. Oatmeal. Do you eat yogurt? Cheese?

I have green smoothies Usually a banana, a handful of berries and then a handful of spinach/kale/any other greens I have. You just add a bit of water and it is delicious!

It usually fills me up until lunch but I don't go to the gym in the mornings so I'd recommend having something post-workout, too.

Do you mean no milk as in no dairy, period? Cause I vary it a bit, but I read somewhere that your breakfasts, as a bare minimum, need to contain a source of protein and a source of fiber. Perfect combo? Yogurt and a piece of fruit. I vary it, sometimes I have a slice of whole wheat toast with some peanut butter on it, or I replace the toast with a whole grain waffle. There's many combos, but I just go with a basic protein + fiber breakfast, so anything that will give you those is good.

My favorite: frozen spinach + 2 eggs and cook it on a butter. After it is ready put it on a paper towel to drain extra butter.

A serving of Kashi GoLean with vanilla soymilk provides a lot of protein and fiber and keeps me going through morning exercise and satisfied until lunch. Plus it's delicious!

thank u all for ur ideas...
Now, wht i understand frm most of the posts is tht breakfast shud be protien based and will try to work on tht.
Dietvet, Pl. Pl. do post the recipe . more so becos i tried a slightly different version of ur soup yesterday morning ( altho becos it was left over frm the previous day and was the first thing i cud grab frm the fridge, )but yes it sustained me pretty well. so wud love to try ur version.

And , i am not lactose intolerant, just hv a psychological aversion to milk and all forms of milk, be it soya or almond or anything. Cheese, yogurts etc are all fine..
So, now tht i hv ideas, will surely find a better start to my day. Hurrah!!!

I don't eat grains, but I used to have a serving of plain oatmeal with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a little honey mixed in. Delicious, filling, and super cheap, plus the peanut butter added a little protein. If you're using peanut butter with added sugar (I always used natural) you don't even need the honey.

I am absolutely addicted to steel-cut oatmeal made with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I simmer on low with the required water for 20 minutes, that cooks down, then I add 1 cup of the almond milk and simmer another 20 minutes. It fluffs up to about twice the normal size, so it almost fills my cereal bowl (makes me feel like I'm eating a ton!) - I add 3-4 teaspoons of sugar (I used flavored sugar, raw sugar or honey). It almost feels like dessert, it's so rich and creamy with just a touch of sweetness. LOVE IT!

I've been doing a banana and a Greek yogurt pretty much every day for about a year. I can go for six to eight hours on it. Greek yogurt has a ton of protein, and bananas are (for me) super filling and sweet. It also has the advantage (for me) of being idiot-proof simple. In the mornings, I don't want to have to think or use fire. I want to grab it and eat it with as little work as possible.
