The Christmas of 2010 I weighed eighteen pounds less than I do now! So bummed. Sometimes it feels like I've stressed about diet and exercise for so long--I haven't been consistent with it but shouldn't stressing about it and fussing about it and going on and off diets count for something?
When I was younger I didn't have to do ANYTHING to stay thin, but I've since gained forty pounds in the last six years (and battling it most of the time) and I really don't want to see my clothing size creep up any further. My old clothes are tight on me again--I've gained eight pounds since I was last here. I mean, I have these great before and after photos of myself--but the problem is that I was super thin BEFORE, and after...well, lets just say I need to buy new clothes (and not in a good way.)
I don't eat a lot of sugar or candy. I don't drink soda. I don't even eat that many refined carbs. It just seems so unfair. :P
OK--with that over with, I am ready to start again and I am going to lose this weight and find a lasting diet plan that works for me--FOREVER.
I have this extreme urge to just fast on a vegetable starvation diet this weekend, but three days of starving doesn't seem like it's really worth dropping one pound out of thirty five! I have to make this work for the long term, but maybe it would help to kick the diet off in an extreme detox...and the accompanying water weight loss.
I started taking Chromium.
My idea is to eat a 1300 calorie diet (this is two hundred cal below my calculated BMR). I'm considering eliminating meat too, and ELIMINATING refined grain...even though I already keep grain servings low anyway. And of course, adding more veg.
I could also do thirty minutes min exercise a day, but I'm hesitant to start all this at once.
What do you think? I'm so bummed about gaining weight that I thought this was the right forum to put this in. There are so many people here who have succeeded, though, that I know there is hope.
Welcome to the forum! Stick close as it really helps you stay on track.
I would advice against the weekend vegetable thing, there is not quick fix to weight loss and you are likely to gain any weight loss back once you start eating a regular diet again.
Without knowing your stats it is hard to say whether 1300 calories is enough for you. I would try to add in exercise however, if you up the exercise intensity, it may require you to eat more than 1300 calories.
Most of us are guilty of gaining weight back, I know I am. Don't beat yourself up. Just do the best you can from this moment forward.
Best of luck to you.
Thanks. I'm not just guilty of gaining weight back though, but also gaining weight forward!
1300 does seem kind of limiting to me, especially since I do want to develop some kind of exercise plan.
I'm wishy washying between the idea of counting calories or just eliminating foods for a while.
Like, I was considering eliminating non-fish meats and refined grains. And then just limiting fatty things like cheeses etc.
This would leave me with beans, veggies, whole grains (which I would still eat in moderation), some sugars and fruits, and eggs and milk.
That way I could still eat when hungry, but hopefully I wouldn't gain weight. I do get tired of calorie counting, although I know it's the most scientifically precise way of ensuring weight loss.
Keep a food diary and write down everything that you put in your mouth. It helps with any diet plan you choose. That's the best way I've found to keep myself accountable. After that, choose a plan that can honestly become your permanent lifestyle. Yeah, it's great to lose 25 lbs on a juice fast or something, but eventually you're going to have to actually eat and all that fasting will be for naught once you revert to eating like you did before.

If this works for you, that's great. I know it wouldn't work for me as I love certain white-flour products and can't live without cheese. I think you have to ask yourself: can I HAPPILY live without these foods for the rest of my life? If the answer is a definite no, consider an alternative plan.

Thanks everyone--I'm looking into the Mediterranean diet right now. I do like to cook and I want to cut down on meat--plus carbs really aren't a huge temptation for me, so I feel like I could just keep them in moderation on my own, without having to have structured restrictions. It's meat that's like a candy for me...and I can still eat it on the Medit, but just in moderation.
