Traveling on Tuesday - I'm back - update

  • Thanks again to everyone who shared tips on surviving a trip -- travelling seems to be a downfall for so many of us.

Taking a bag of snacks was a great idea - waiting triggers eating for me, so it was good to have something on hand. I became hungry as soon as I entered the airport! Having a non-fat latte right off the bat help immensley.

Treating myself to magazines was also a good idea. Amazing that I've always stopped short of spending on books and magazines, but spend so easily on food.

The friend I stayed with was also on a health-kick! Yay! My only instance of "falling-off the diet" was the sourdough bread she served at dinner - freshly baked just down the street. I've just started Phase 2, and had reintroduced fruit only. Even though bread is in Phase 2, this bread was the opposite of healthy! And I had more than one piece.

Still, all-in-all, this is one of the first trips I've had in my adult life that didn't leave me feeling bloated and uncomfortable by the end of it -too much of the wrong food and not enough activity aren't the best combinations. We didn't do a whole lot, but the way I ate over the two days really made a difference.

Learning all the time and grateful for the support from this forum!
  • Congrats on a successful trip! I think that after an initial success that it just gets easier! Thanks for the update!
  • Sounds like you did real good. Hope the whole trip was enjoyable.
  • Actually, I believe you ARE allowed sourdough, depending on how much of course, in Ph 2!

I am glad you had a good time and you did well!
  • Great news! I love that feeling when I managed to not go hog-wild as soon as I am out of my controlled environment. Such a feeling of success!!

Re: the bread, a side note that I just discovered: the "allowed" serving size is 1 ounce = 28 g. I weighed my two little slices of bakery 100% whole wheat bread yesterday and it was 60 g. So more than 2 servings right there (not to mention that I came back and was grazing on the loaf all day so it was "who knows how many" servings in the end - different issue!). THAT was eye-opening! I don't think I have ever had only one serving of bread in my life.
  • Bread is tough! I love it in all forms. Good to know that sourdough is allowed, but I know I ate more than the allowed amount (it really was very good). Trying not to sweat it -- just got back on track and let it go.

    Thanks all.
  • Congrats on being so prepared and then in-control! That must feel great
