Hi everyone! I am here because I need a lot of support, I wonder if I can join some of the support groups?

i got thin and fat - like a yoyo. I was 130, then 200 then 140 then 210, then 130 again then now 230.

I amcurrently 230lbs and I used to be 130, so I gained a 100 lbs. This due to my fiancee being with me (i started getting fat) and then he broke up with me (i gained much more).

I thought by joining the forum I could get on track but guess what? I ate 2 pad thais, 3 diet coke, one snickers ice cream bar and a few kit kat bars.

I am freaking out cause I can't stop. Whats wrong with me??? I don't know what to do or how to start?

And I am not going to the gym UNTIL i lose at least 20 lbs!!!

Hey I'm just starting too, and I totally get the feeling lack of control and the not wanting to go to the gym. I am a picker if there is food around I will pick at it, I eat because I' bored or lonely or really any and all the time lol. I took all of the junk and the food I know I shouldn't/don't want to eat out of my house. I'm finding that its helping to not have it around. In turn I've replaced it with what I like to call "skinny ***** food" haha, so like rice cakes, clementines, 1 ww point popcorn, so if I do start to pick or feel the need for a snack my only option handy is something not too diet devastating haha.

As far as the fitness goes I am totally with you I do not want to go to the gym until I loose some weight (the skinny people make me angry and annoyed). So I've been trying DVD's and youtube-ing Tae-bo and Zumba. I like that I can do it in the privacy of my own home and no one sees me jiggle! Maybe that's something you could try? They are both pretty upbeat and are actually pretty fun to do!

One thing I learned about the gym is that the people who go there are too concerned with how they look (or are an athlete and are focused on their workout) to be concerned with the other people. plus, if they do notice you, you're there working out so if anything they're going to have positive thoughts.

I started going to the gym when I was over 200lbs (don't know exactly how much I weighed but I'm guessing 220-230) and I slowly found that people really don't care. They're always so focused on their workouts that they don't have the time to pay attention to other people!

Also, I found that SO MANY people were nice and supportive and would help me out.

Now that I'm a full-fledged gym rat, I can assure you that I don't really pay attention to other people, but if I DO see them struggling I'll help out because I know how scary it is when you're starting out and there's all these fit people around you who seem to know what they're doing!

Haha, it's not because I care about what other people think, it's cause I want to get a trainer but I want to lose the weight first, i feel like I am at that weight where if I portion control or something, i can drop a few lbs and then the remaining I can work it off.

and i was never a gym rat, it is SOO hard to get into, I am lazy to even get out of the house.

I totally feel you CLS1989. Thank you for the suggestions everyone. i am going to order a potion controlled meal delivery (cause I can't do it myself) and see how it goes.

1) You can't change food habits overnight. Try just tracking. Then try making small changes like portions or drinking more water. Take it one thing at a time and don't beat yourself for the process taking the time it needs. It is what it is.

2) Exercise at home. If you don't want to do the gym, hit the library DVDs or websites and exercise at home then. Again -- build up the changes there. If you can manage just 10 min, that's fine. Pick beginner DVDs -- www.collagevideo.com is good for checking the level of the one you are thinking about doing even if you actually borrow it from the library.

GL!

Sorry if I sound harsh but Getting a personal trainer will not help you change your eating habits. That is something you have to discipline yourself with over time. It doesn't happen overnight.

You clearly got what I said wrong. Getting a personal trainer doesn't have anything to do with changing my eating habits. I said I will get portion control sized meals and I will do that and discipline myself. And when i drop enough of pounds I am going to get a personal trainer because I'm not motivated enough to motivate myself in a gym, and getting a trainer would definitely help with that.

Have you tried group fitness classes? Almost the same principle as getting a trainer, but they're fun and generally cheaper.

callycal, you have to maintain that weight once you lose it. Hang in there, you'll make it. There are maintenance groups here.

I have a lot to lose and get very discouraged too. But once I lose it I'll be darned if I gain any back. It is just too difficult and time-consuming to lose it....just to gain it all back.

I got some pretty nice exercize equipment at a church sale.
They always seem to have some piece of equipment at each church sale.

I set one up in my family room. One in my bedroom..one in the living room, any corner I could fit one in.

People buy the equipment then stop using it after a short while.

Buy it, but keep using it. This weight loss is a lifetime endeavor.

aww… hun, big hugs.

although my yo-yoing hasn’t been as extreme as you (actually, not sure that’s a good thing since I never even once reached a “thin” weight…) I can definitely understand where you’re coming from… and the worst part is that yo-yoing screws up your system so bad that once you ARE ready to lose weight, the pounds just don’t come off as fast as they should

anyways, not here to discourage you, just to say I understand… first off, if you don’t wanna go to the gym before you lose 20lbs, how about working out at home? workout dvds area a great way to stay in shape and you don’t even have to leave the house!

second, I don’t know about you but for me, being the total food addict that I am, it’s usually better to follow really really strict diet plans and just get rid of ALL the bad stuff. Saying “I’ll just have one bite of chocolate cake instead of 3 pieces” is bullsh*t… that’s never gonna happen. Actually, I’m on a low/slow carb diet. and I pretty much can’t eat any carbs or anything sweet (but I eat lots of meat, eggs and veggies). I think it’s good for me cuz I have a sugar addiction, and before, if I didn’t eat sugar every day, I would get horrible headaches. how stupid is that?! anyways, it takes a few days but once you’re through those first 3 days, you don’t even crave it and it’s much better. I dunno if it would work for you, but I think it’s worth a try. It’s kinda hard to eat out at restaurants and stuff, but when you’re home, it’s easy enough, AND you can eat as much as you want of the other stuff.

and finally, what’s wrong with you? well, I’d say it’s just that you have a food addiction… but guess what? 95% of everybody else on this forum also do. So it doesn’t make you weird, or crazy, or alone in the universe. this forum is the best place to come for help, and information about what to do and how to change. good luck! and try not to beat yourself up when you slip!

Unless you plan on going to some snooty gym/health club, no one cares about how you look. I went to an all womans gym (Goodlife Fitness), and it was awesome. There were people of all different sizes ranging from really skinny, to 400 pounds! Most wore baggy tshirts and gym shorts. It was a very clean gym with awesome programs and no one payed attention to anyone else.

Like a lot of people here have stated, no one is looking at you when your working out at the gym. Everyone is into their own thing. It seems like an excuse to put off going. You know what you need to do. Exercise is beneficial. It'll help speed up your metabolism, which will give you even more weight loss. You'll feel amazing afterwards, and you'll be less inclined to binge eat, because you'll think about all the work you just pulled off in your workout

I worked out at the gym at my heavest, and no one said a thing. No one payed any attention. Just another person working out.

Anyways...you know what you need to do to lose weight. You've done it before. But you need to be emotionally ready to do it. You've done alot of yo-yo dieting so figure out why you keep going back and gaining. Then try and prevent the same circumstances from repeating themselves. Good luck

Since I've started losing weight, I've lost 25 pounds. I have not stepped foot in the gym once...alright I take a yoga class once a week that meets in my colleges fitness center, but I only go to that because if I don't go I'll fail...it's a way of making myself work out when I "don't have time" (full time student and full time worker here). I love working out at home because working out is very personal to me. I feel like I can push myself to different limits when I am at home and I'm not as self conscious and I would be at my college's gym. I would definitely tell you you have to work out. Cutting calories will work out initially, but I'm not sure it will cut 30 pounds. Some good workout videos that I recommend are any of the Biggest Loser workouts or any of Jillian Micheals' workouts (30 Day Shread=hard but worth it). Some more expensive ones that I LOVE are any of the Chalene Johnson's workouts (I have Chalean Extreme and TurboFire). Zumba is a great workout too. All of these are things you can do at home and you don't have to worry that people are looking at you...even though I can assure you that they probably aren't and if they are they're jerks anyways.

I just started working out at my local gym, and it is true that no one cares. All of the big guys and skinny little chicks can be intimidating, and this gym is small enough to where everyone is curious about a newcomer, but I keep telling myself that one of these days, if I stick with it, I'll be one of those gym rats. I've also recently started back after falling off the wagon and gaining all of the thirty pounds back that I lost. It isn't as severe as what you have been through, but the important thing is we learn to forgive ourselves and realize our former mistakes.
