I've seen the commercials on TV and was wondering if it's worth it to give it a try. I've read about the side effects and how it works. Has anyone used it to supplement their weight loss? Experiences? Any insight would help!!
Alli did not work as they claimed but for the fact that it scared the bejesus out of me and stopped me eating some really bad foods really fast. I started my weight loss with Alli, never finished the bottle but I did learn moderation and started me on the journey. I did have an accident once after eating a roti meal- never knew roti had so much grease in it. As such, I started to look for hidden oils and kept my fat intake low and did see about a 1/2lb loss a week while on Alli. Off Alli, I had the same result so I do not count the pill as very effective but the side effects will surely scare you straight and THAT works.
Alli works by preventing your body from absorbing some of the fat you eat. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard things can get really messy when you consume too much fat. Horror stories abound about "accidents" that people have had while taking Alli. Unless you're already eating or are certain that you can eat a low fat diet, it's probably not for you. Another thing to consider is that Alli also interfers with the absorption of some nutrients, so you'll need to take a good multi-vitamin along with it.
I have used Alli with decent results. I guess because it does eliminate some of the fat, but I suggest you avoid burgers and the like unless you are at home or have a table really, really close to the restroom at restaurants.
I found myself skipping it on weekends, however you may still experience what they delicately term "treatment effects" even if you skip taking it and it's still in your system.
I had decent results, but was it the Alli or was it the lowfat diet?
My sister in law tried it. She said it made her very, very sick even though she didn't think she was eating very much fat. Sounds like it doesn't take much to make you sick though.
now if only they could make a pill that helped you eliminate carbs and sugar...
Ha! This would be a dream come true for me!
I tried Alli once about 4 years ago and like one poster said above all it did was scare me into not eating fatty foods. And it did help ween me off of eating McDonalds for dinner every night. However, I replaced fried foods with sugary treats and pasta. OMG - so much pasta! Didn't do a thing for me except ruin a few pairs of my Victoria Secrets.
I actually thought about trying it once and decided to do a week on my own to "clear out my body" of fat before starting. I ended up losing weight so I kept going without it.
The thought of accidents just terrified me though. Not worth it imho.
I used it once. Almost the whole bottle's worth anyways. It does scare you into not eating fat. It was gross seeing yellow fat bubbles floating on top of the water when you pooped. Orange grease, like Dorito's. So, yeah.. you avoid any fat on purpose that's for sure. So, it works, yes in a degree that you will be eating nonfat to lowfat foods. I even had grease when I peed! As far as weigh loss.. I really dont remember big results..I was too focused on what NOT to eat.. lol. I'm sure a few months of living like that would result in good weigh loss..but after the one bottle..I was done.
