Default New to South Beach

Hi Everyone..I have been over on the Core Forum for a long time..
I have just decided to try South Beach and I am excited..I am rereading the book that I read a while back. I just ordered the South Beach Heart Heath book.
I have a lot of heart disease in my family so I can't wait to read this book.

I have about 20 lbs I need to lose and other diets have not worked..I stay so hungry that I give up.. A few weeks ago I followed a medical clinic weight loss diet because I got the introductory 2 weeks for very cheap. I knew I wouldn't continue when it became 70/week but I wanted to see what diet they used.
It was very close to South Beach phase one..I wasn't hungry on it and lost
5 lbs in one week.

With Christmas around the corner are there any kitchen tools/gadgets I should ask for that would help me with this diet. My new book isn't here yet to see what they suggest.

I will tell a bit about myself in my next post..I am off to bed...

Hi, Nancy, and welcome to the Beach. South Beach is great. I'm sure you have all the kitchen gadgets needed so check out the stickies and dive right in.

Nancy! South Beach Diet is the perfect plan for you, since it was developed by a heart specialist.

We're glad to have you joining us here, and look forward to getting to know you!

Sounds like you're going to love it here! Welcome!!

Personally, my immersion blender has been the most used gadget I have. If you don't have one, maybe Santa can bring one!

I use my food processor and immersion blender the most.

I am an empty nest mom of 4 from 19 to 35 & one grandson. I lost my husband to leukemia in March and its been harder than I would have ever imagined.
I am just beginning to feel a bit of my old self coming back . My eating has been very unhealthy and I just keep telling myself I deserve to eat what I want..I am realizing that is backwards thinking because what my body deserves is the very best so I can feel my best.

A question...I love my morning coffee but don't like it with anything except the powered creamer or half & half..I think it cuts the acidity , but if I don't have the right creamer I won't even drink coffee.. What is the lesser of evils with
creamers..None of the fatfree stuff works for me ..
I may try to switch to hot tea with a splenda in it..

Hi Nancy! Welcome to the Beach! Watch out, Ruth hogs the cabana boy. There are LOTS of coffee drinkers here. I drink mine with full fat half and half. That may not be the consensus, but no one better mess with my morning coffee.

Nancy - I'd stick with the real 1/2 and 1/2 if I were you. I went from those fancy flavored creamers (and A LOT of it) to skim milk.

I'm sorry to hear for the loss of your husband. You're right, you deserve to treat yourself better, although I think many of us use food to comfort ourselves....and it doesn't work.

Good luck! Hope you visit us here often!

Welcome to SB! I drink my coffee with regular half and half and sugar free flavored syrup (SF Carmel or SF Kahlua). To change it up a bit, sometimes I will put cinnamon on the coffee grounds before I brew the coffee, so good!

Nancy

It's nice to meet you! I'm sorry to hear you lost your DH this year. I cannot even imagine how difficult that would be.

This is the greatest group of friends here. I don't miss a day. I really love SBD and the combo of sticking with my food changes and staying with this forum has made a great difference in my life. One thing I have found is that when I stabilized my food situation my headspace changed, too. I think better and don't have so many mood swings.

Best wishes!

Hi Nancy, and welcome! I second the recommendation for using real half and half. The powdered stuff is 100% artificial and SB really tries to move us away from that kind of stuff. Half and half is fine to use. Enjoy your coffee!
