Default Let's talk about weight and shoe sizes!

I tried to put on a pair of shoes today that I haven't worn in years.. and back then I was 20 pounds lighter.

Does that 20 pounds make such a big difference? The shoes weren't a little tight.. they were unwearable!

I've also had 3 kids in the meantime, so maybe that is part of it?

To those who have lost significant weight, how many sizes of shoes did you lose in the process, if any?

When we lose weight we lose it all over. When I was overweight I wore size 8-9 after losing I wear 7-7.5.

I personally don't gain or lose weight in my feet or ankles. I am a size 9 or 9.5 and have been since I was about 12 or so. I am sure some do. My shoe size did go up a half size or so temporally when I was pregnant but once I had my babies it went back down

My sister-in-law had her feet totally change after having children. Her shoe size went up when she was pregnant and stayed up even after losing weight.

At 215-220 lb I wore a size 8.5
now at 165-170 I wear a size 7, sometimes I can fit in 6.5 depending on the shoe.

I just hope it doesn't go below this. LOL I like my size 7s!

Honestly, I never knew weight affected shoe size. I thought there was just the "wide" sizes and that is what people would wear, because their feet get wider when they are flat against the ground, not longer... This was my theory for years go FS for educating me <3

Mine don't change, thank goodness! I have a very large shoe collection and I would be devastated if they stopped fitting.

I've always been interested about this topic. One of my friends lost a lot of weight once and lost 2 shoe sizes. I think also that your weight distribution can change over time. I've noticed lately that even though I am the same weight as I have been for several years, I actually went up a 1/2 shoe size.

mine have gotten smaller with the 55 lbs I've lost. I can still wear most of my current shoes but a few are too big. And when I recently tried on some new shoes, I had to go down a half size.

fwiw, mine did go up slightly during pregnancy (I put on a ton of water weight the last couple of weeks and had to buy wides) but went back down within a couple of weeks after I gave birth and got rid of all that water.

My feet got much wider after I got out of college. It was mostly due to my job - on my feet 12 1/2 hours a day. That's also when I got plantar fasciitis.

They have gotten slightly less wide lately - I had to tighten the straps on some, but not all of my sandals this summer. I haven't lost any length yet.

Mine shoe size hasn't changed thank god! I have so many nice pairs of shoes/heels/boots is would surely be a tragedy! The only thing that changed on my body was my calves and ankles got smaller with the weight loss. I don't think its uncommon for that to happen though!

After losing 30lb so far, I am now wearing orthotic insoles. Which is good, because I have flat feet and really needed that.

I found that I've gone down a half size after a 54 pound loss (8 to 7.5). Not enough for me to toss most of my shoes, but I do have to be careful in some.
