W.O.W. Turkey Trot Challenge - Week 1 - All are welcome!
This is a 12 week challenge starting this week and ending the week of Thanksgiving (US)!
For any newbies, the traditional copy and paste:
Women on... WHAT??
Okay, let me explain that "Women on WEED" is not what you might be thinking. During previous challenges, a group of us formed a great bond, and we've been challenge buddies ever since. We use the word "WEED" as a mnemonic device to set daily goals, an easy and very specific way to remind yourself during your day to take care of your body, and to nurture your Mind, Mouth and Muscles... it really does help. After all, we are all taking this a day at a time, right?
If you join this challenge, you will see it often - and you are encouraged to give it a try. Here's what it stands for:
W - Water intake. Set a daily goal for how much water you're going to drink. Although there is conflicting research as to how much to actually consume in a day, we all agree it is important to drink lots to stay healthy. So make it a goal!
E - Exercise. Efficient, healthy weight loss isn't going to happen unless you incorporate some kind of physical activity in your life. Everyone does it differently; some go to the gym, some work out at home, and some find ways to sneak in little bits of exercise all throughout the day. Set yourself a goal, even if it's small. Little bits done often WILL add up over time!
E - Eats. Being that we all have different eating plans and weight loss philosophies, this is sort of a wild card. Whatever plan you're on, set yourself a plan-appropriate daily eating goal for the day. Don't forget to make it specific!
D - Daily goal/Daily affirmation. This is another wild card. It doesn't even have to be weight-loss related! This is the spot where you list something you want to get accomplished. Or, you can use "D" for a a daily affirmation - it's an opportunity to say something good and positive about yourself. Sometimes, when we fall short - and we ALL do sometime - we are tempted to berate ourselves. Although it's good to recognize when we don't reach our goals, it's also good to remind ourselves of the awesome parts of ourselves. So go ahead and remind yourself of that in the "D" part of WEED.
Well here it is! Jump right in, tell us about yourselves, your goals, your home lives, your healthy plan, etc. We LOVE newbies! And we LOVE our regulars! Welcome back!
I'll start, my name is Emily, I'm a mom to three young ones and I'm currently on maternity leave since having my daughter, Darcy in July. I go back to work Oct 11th I work full-time outside of the house and my husband works a lot so life gets a bit hectic these days. For years I did Weight Watchers, but have since moved to a more lower carb diet. I still have days where I eat grains in small amounts but I'm hoping to mostly eliminate them from my diet outside of special occasions.
This is challenge is 12 weeks long so I'd like to lose a pound a week putting me around 165 by Thanksgiving.
Week 1: 177.0
W - 80+ oz (need to work on this, falling back into my Diet Pepsi habits lately)
E - Postpartum ab DVD 3X/week, walking and start incorporating some lifting
E - lower carb (aiming for less than 150g/day)
D - keep working on getting used to my new normal with 3 kids and incorporating some me time somewhere!
I am Mavis, 45, mother of 2 boys in college (23 & 20) wife to a fabulous man and holder of 2 full time jobs, one in insurance and one in real estate sales. Life is hectic. I have been OOW since mid August after surgery, but hoping to return this week!!
I like Emily's goal of one per week, I weighed 153 this am, so that would take me to 141. Knocking on the 130's!!!
W I aim for 100, need to get more consistent at this
E 1200 calories a day. With whole foods, very little processed junk.
E Working on getting back to running, 3x a week, turbo jam 3 others!
D Making time to work out every day makes me more relaxed in the long run, even if more crazy short term.
Hello! I just joined the forum today, and I'm looking for a challenge to start things off right. I think this may be just what need. =)
I'm Katrina- a 23 year old recent college graduate. I spent my summer in a well-paying desk job that I absolutely hated. The being seated all day really took a toll of my body. I've gained about 40 pounds since May and my legs are now swollen almost all the time.
I've just recently found another job as a TSS worker while I'll be one step closer to my goal of becoming a teacher. While I won't be teaching, I'll at least be working with students in a school setting- and not at a desk all day.
I am SUPER excited to be starting off with this challenge. I'm the kind of person that needs lots of little goals to keep me motiveated. And if I can mange to lose some weight by Thanksgiving, maybe the family gathering won't be as mortifing as usual. I'm going to work my butt off to lose 3 pounds a week for these next 12 weeks for a grand total of 36 pounds by Thanksgiving.
Current Weight: 355 pounds
Goal: 319
W: I'm very bad with drinking water, or drinking anything at all really. So my goal is simply to eliminate everything but water from my diet...and to make sure that I'm actually drinking throughout the day.
E: 2-mile in home walking tape every morning.
E: Again, I'm been horrible at this lately. My goal is simply to stop myself from binge eating. If I have a craving for something, I'm going to wait at least 15 minutes to see if the craving will pass. I've also recently joined WW so I'll be sticking to the points plus system.
D: I'm going to make an effort to write about how I'm feeling and how this journey is going for me. This is something I haven't done in a long time; something I would love to get back to.
Mavis - morning! How's home with the boys off to school?
Lazy rainy day this morning, made some eggs and waiting for Miss Darcy to wake up. I'm planning a cheat - Pumpkin Spiced Latte at Starbucks is being released today Today was Connor's first day of Pre-K, he's growing up so fast!

E - Ab DVD and something else
E - On Plan (except the Starbucks of course!)
D - Get some organizing done

I got in my gym workout this morning! Yay me. I still have to get my abs done, but I will do that too.
Nights are going really well, but trying to get my workouts in are rough. Now that the kids are in school I hope that I will be getting a really good routine going.
The plan now: Days off (or first day back) hit the gym after I drop the kids off at school (working my way back up to 45 cardio/15 weights/15 abs). Days on: run 15 min, 15 minute abs. Its the best I can think of right now.
My schedule is so hectic being on nights, home at 430am, up at 7 to get the kids ready for school, home at 830, nap until (hopefully) 1230, workout..eat..shower. pick Mak up at 252pm run her to nana's (who will pick Tommy up since she is 2 blocks from his school) leave for work at 305. . . Whew. I will definately love my days off more now!
Jeni - Hey there stranger, hope you don't mind me starting the next challenge. You're going to be a busy lady (not that you weren't already!) Hopefully with kids in school, more regular scheduled etc some of our ladies will find their way back to us!
Mavis - been hearing a lot about this skinny crock pot, might have to check it out.
Doing well, kids are good just constant rain, rain, rain! I'm ready for crisp, sunny fall days...unfortunately at that point I'll be back to work and unable to enjoy them as much. Been slacking on my exercise lately, need to pick it back up - the weather isn't exactly helping either. Take care all!

If I don't get here in the AM b4 I go back to work...

Emi, still raining here too. Yuck! Was hoping to go for a walk with the dog this morning before work too. Not sure that will happen.
Yes, work!! I can go back to work today!! Call me silly, but my schedule works much better with work. I eat better and drink alot more water. All of the closings I had been working on early in the summer are done, so, job 2 will slow down for the winter as it usually does.
Boys are planning to come home tomorrow for the weekend to go to the big car show in LG with their Dad this weekend, will be really nice to have everyone here for a few days!
Got to go get that elliptical done, sticking with the plan!
Dan's office flooded yesterday (for the third time in the last month!) so he was home with me. Got a lot done, cleaned all the carpets in the house which I've been wanting to do for a while now. Nothing exciting today, just errands and stuff. Food wasn't the greatest yesterday, hoagies for lunch and pasta for dinner...so much for lower carb huh? Hope everyone has a great weekend!
W - 80+
E - walk & DVD
E - lower carb
D - start looking for clothes for back to work
