Default Realizing 'bad' isn't as bad as I thought...

Today I decided, very consciously, to have a large McDonald's meal. But this time, I logged all of the calories in my fitday. Usually when I go off plan, I just stop logging altogether and don't even bother counting (maybe it's that I never actually wanted to know how bad it was!). But I logged it all. And....I'm still under my daily maintenance level. Wha?? I've even got a small snack planned out for later this evening, so I hit right at my maintenance level. Nothing lost, but nothing gained either.

So the moral of the story it, don't assume you've totally blown the day until you see the numbers!! Log it, log it, log it!!!

On another note, the only thing I'm regretting right now is the jumbo diet Dr. Pepper I had. I had cut soda out completely because it messes my skin up, but I love me some DDP so I splurged on it. Now I feel a little bit like I have the flu. That puts the nail in that coffin!!

That's great that you even though you splurged, you stayed on calorie. BTW: DDP is my fav diet soda, well actually the only DS I drink! (Though, I cut all out too.) Overall, Hooray for you.

I have a splurge meal every 5th day and I always log it and I think only once was I over my maintenance calories and that was by less then 100. Usually I end up having about 400-500 deficit still! So yes if you are eating healthy most of yur meals you can splurge every now and then without gaining weight. Moderation That has really helped keep me on my plan for the last 3 mons.

I agree. It's surprising to think we've blown the day by eating "bad" when we actually didn't. I think that's the problem so many of us face with an all-or-nothing attitude. I ate McDonald's so that must mean I blew my diet so might as well eat everything else underneath the sun.

Step back, reassess the actual "damage", and realize that there's no damage at all. It's nice to know that we can still eat what we want and not gain weight simply by being more aware.
