Default Road Trip and Camp Snack Ideas

Hi all,

Next week I'm leaving for a week-long camping trip to a music festival. It's a 9+ hour road trip, so I need some PP-friendly ideas for snack foods to take in the car and to eat at camp. It will be interesting staying on plan. It's a youth group trip and I'm a leader, so breakfast and dinner menus are planned for us (none of it is very healthy). Lunch we have to buy from the carnival fairway-type food vendors. Thankfully, there is a Subway vendor, so I'll be happy eating turkey sandwiches for lunch all week. We will be walking soooo much that I'm not too worried about it balancing out eventually, but would love some portable snack ideas. No cooler and temps possibly near 100, so I'm not sure how well fruit, etc. will do. Thanks for the ideas!

In as far as Breakfast & Dinners go, keep portion in mind. You can eat half and still be satisfied. Or scrape off things you don't want to eat.

Looks like you mostly have a healthy lunch covered so that's good news!

Nuts are pretty high-energy and can be good when you'll be moving around a whole lot. Again, keep portion in mind. A tiny handful of nuts is all you really need. Along the lines of nuts, fiber bars and trail mixes with dried fruit are good.

And water itself can be filling and refreshing, so try to keep that handy.

Good luck and have a great time at the camp!

Whole veggies like carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas; whole pieces of fruit will be fine in the heat- think apples, bananas, pears, oranges; popcorn- airpopped with butter-flavored salt (only needs a teeny bit) instead of butter; fat-free pretzel sticks; low-fat jerky; aaaaand I'm outta ideas. Have fun at the music festival!

Oh yeah, jicama! It's an interesting flavor/texture, but it's sweet and crunchy. Chop up into french fry size and munch away.

We just got back from Bonnaroo where we camped out over a long weekend. We did have a cooler -- a 3 day cooler with dry ice and a smaller cooler for use during the day. Our snacks were mostly fruit, trail mix, beef jerky, nutrigrain bars and pita chips. We actually brought a crusher with us for fruit juice (to add to vodka, we are posh campers) as well as a lot of beer we ended up not drinking (too hot). Water and electrolyte/salt packets.

If we did not have a cooler I would not have eaten. It was too hot to eat during the day and I actually never ate until after the sun was down and it was cooler. I lost a few lbs (even with the pizza and samosas and noodle bowls) because of my reduced intake and all the fluid loss.
