I think both are great, pounds are easier to lose at first (from what i can tell anyway). but when you lose weight you most likely want to *look* better and if you lose inches then you are definetly looking better because what people see is your size not an exact number from a scale, if you get what im trying to say lol
Losing inches is what will move you down clothes sizes moreso than just losing pounds...at least at the weight you're at! I'm personally going for either my goal weight OR my goal measurements, whichever come first, because if I hit my goal weight and don't hit my goal measurements, then I'm probably not ever going to hit my goal measurements!
I don't know if there is one that's "better," because "better" varies depending on what you're looking for. (eg. Health vs vanity.)
Based on personal preference, lbs lost motivate me more than inches lost. HOWEVER, when I do lose inches (while my lbs remain steady) it isn't necessarily a deal breaker either.
Personally, I find that inches are better to represent if you're losing weight. You can gain muscle mass which affects your weight if you start exercising regularly. I still weigh myself, because I do think it's important (I find BMI is important in telling me if I'm overweight/obese) but I'm never too disheartened by the number. For instance I gained a pound this week, but lost 0.2 inches off my stomach - my advice to anyone is record both!!
I would rather lose inches (yes, vain ), but I'm too lazy to accurately measure myself regularly so I just go with pounds and eyeballing photos of myself.
Well eventually if you keep going with diet and exercise then the pounds will start to come off as the inches decrease. I'm measuring both, inches for vanity and pounds for health.
i would say either, but if i had to pick i would rather pick inches. I would rather be fit and the pounds not coming off as quickly then lose weight and be flabby. just my option.
Pounds by far lol! I expect to look diff by my goal weight, but I am wearing the same clothes because I am trying not to spend too much money on clothes (until I reach my goal weight) so for now, I do not care if I start looking better, as long as I do look better by November
We get stuck on pounds, especially as dieters (the scale is the world, or can be when you're thinking about it all the time!) but inches are the representation of fat lost. Muscle torches calories and fat, revvs our metabolisms, makes us live longer, fights cancer, boosts brainpower, etcetera etcetera etawesomera. I am making a commitment to go by measurements and not pounds this summer, because the point is that I want to be a size 6, not a skinnyfat size 10 (which is what I'd be if I followed the scale).

Wish there was a ticker for inches...
I agree with this entire post! I don't even weigh anymore after realizing the scale is not the best gauge of my progress.
