I've never tried the shakes, but if i dont have the time to have breakfast/lunch before work i grab one of the bars and im usually fine with that. doesn't happen that often though. im guessing you could have 1 of the shakes as a substitute meal but i'd probably have something else on the side with it just so its more filling because i know the bars are like 170-220 cals. i forget which but that isnt much for an entire meal.. so im guessing* the shakes would be similar?

I would definitely check out the ingredients. Sometimes products like this sound more like a science lab than a kitchen. If you can't pronounce the ingredients/don't know what they are I would steer clear. Or if it contains any high fructose corn suryp at all. I'd say you'd probably be better off just eating the same number of calories worth of some other food. Low fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt are both full of protien, very filling and low-cal.

Special K protein shakes and meal bars are good and the piece of fruit might help you stay full longer. The shake would be ok in place of a small meal, but you might be hungry 2-3 hours later. I used to eat a Special K protein meal bar with coffee for breakfast at 8-9am and it held me over until lunch at noon.

For protein shakes, I'd compare the labels of Special K and Ensure. Special K is good on protein/fiber/low fat/calories, but they do have a bit of sugar. Ensure is made to replace a meal (making sure they have all the nutrients that you'd get from a decent meal), so it probably has more calories but would keep you full longer.

I'm sure everyone is different, but I don't like them. They aren't cheap. They don't taste good. They don't make me feel full. lol

Personally, I love the Special K Protein Shakes. They taste good to me and since it is hard for me to get into the habit of eating breakfast every day, these really help give me the energy I need to start my day. It tides me over till lunchtime. I normally drink a big glass of water along with my shake.
