Post I'm NEW, I'm FAT, I NEED help!

Hi,

First time on one of these sites and I am in need of some support. I have been overweight my ENTIRE life. Since I could remember .

I really need to lose this weight. I have been in denial for so long and now I have finally realized I have a serious problem with food. I have so many cravings, I'm never full unless I gorge myself and the list goes on and on.

Yes there are some childhood issues but those would callled excuses and I am looking to just move forward and not back. I'll write more later but I figure this would be a good start.

Current Weight: 288
All Time High: 293
Goal: 110

Welcome! I'm glad that you've been motivated and are here for support! Do you have a plan or are you researching different ways? We all have our own ways of losing weight on this forum so I'm sure you'll be able to find what works for you. My family and I have had great success on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus plan so I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Welcome to 3FC =)

First of all. You can do this. Everyone has it within them to change. It's not always easy, and we don't have to be perfect, but we CAN do it for the long-haul.

As to how... well there are a million different methods. Some of them are going to work extremely well for your life, and others are going to be absolutely NOT good for your life. But, the beauty of being healthier and losing weight is that there is no ONE right way, and WE get to decide what works.

I'll use myself as an example. I decided to look up Weight Watchers, because I enjoy the extra accountability. The phone app that I can take with me everywhere to keep a vigilant eye on my food. I love the weekly articles, the extra community support. The Challenges. Etc.

I ~probably~ could do something similar with Calorie Counting, but Weight Watchers is working very nicely for me right now and quite frankly I don't see a need to "fix what ain't broke".

I have learned, though, that... low-carb diets are not for me. Sure, I should stick to healthier carbs (fruits/veg/whole grains), but low carb just makes me feel miserable, cranky and deprived. Deprivation then leads to me binging and overeating.

That being said, there are a ton of folks on 3FC who've used low-carb to curb their appetite and eat healthier. It works for them. And that's good! It doesn't work for me. And that's good, too, because I've found what -does- work.

There are plenty of methods that can be combined or tweaked to fit how you want to live. And as long as they're healthy and satisfying for you, then that's all that matters.

Keep coming back. Keep at it. You can do this!

Can't wait to see you all around the boards!

Thumbs up Wow!!

I didn't expect to be messages this soon!

Thank you all for your words and welcome to the other newbies! I am going to play around on the site and check out some groups but for the newbies, if you would like to start a group, let me know.

Right now, I am fasting for today. I drank a lot of water and had a cup of juice this morning. I heard this is a good way to get rid of the cravings. My cravings are SO DAMN strong BUT I am trying to be stronger. I mean it's just food, I can't let it rule my life!

I don't have an exercise program...YET! But I do have an advantage, I have access to a free gym and free workout classes, so I have no EXCUSE!

Thanks again for all the responses.

Slow and steady wins the race girlfriend! Don't get overwhelmed by large goals.Take small steps and work towards small goals. First thing is you need a plan. You need to figure out how many calories you are eating and what you should be eating for weight loss. You can do this through My Fitness Pal (what I use) or any other free online exercise food journal. Then when you figure out what is going on and where you need to make changes you can then formulate a plan that works for you. But you can do this!!

Good luck! We have about the same stats (Im 5'4, 280lbs-ish) Ive lost the same 50-80lbs more than once. I know it's frustrating. Ive also recently realized how much my childhood affected my eating, I can actually pinpoint about the age(s) that I started to pile on weight, and it was right around the time that I started to really realize the problems my parents were having. My parents loved me, but they were also too consumed with their own problems to ever really pay attention to me. It's great that youre willing/able to put all of that behind you.

Acknowledging the problem is the first step =)
If you want a work out to do at home I recommend Jillian Michaels 30 Days Shred.

Know that you're not alone -- we're all here with the same issues and are here to support and to be supported!

I love Atkins mainly because I love meat and cheese -- plus, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to gorge yourself on meat. Seriously, try it. I'm warning you: you'll hate eggs by the end of Induction. But the moment I ate a chicken breast and some broccoli and felt content WITHOUT being stuffed, I almost wept. Plus, the bars are pretty good. Just watch the sugar-free stuff -- those sugar alcohols can have some ... interesting effects with the plumbing.

For me, getting the weight off was easy; it's keeping it off that takes real work!

I am also new to the site but have been seriously dieting for 5 months. Just try to keep a few things in mind - we all struggle, we all have good days and bad. We have to be our own best support - if we don't want to do this, no one else can make us. Frame of mind is everything - think you can and you will be able to accomplish your goal.
