Default I just ran screaming from Atkins...

I tried it for two days. Eating a bag of pork rinds to avoid eating a scoop of ice cream is ridiculous. I can't do atkins. So Sunday, I started a regular diet. I am following the rpinciples of Bob Greene. I am doing okay. I actually eat more often than I did usually do and a feel hungry sometimes but I think that is my body getting used to not getting so much fat. I am sticking to this! Wish me luck.

Hi Mzswalkerjr,

I totally agree with you on the Adkins. I've tried it more than once and ended up with the same opinion. I am doing Bob Greene also, with a few modifications and it is working for me.
I just finished his new book on food and thought had alot of really great info. Have you read it? And how's it working for you?

I think Bob Greene gives very sound advice. I'm not personally a fan of Atkins, but everyone needs something different.

I have Make the Connection and Keep the Connection, but have never looked at Get with the Progam. Does anyone recommend it over the others?

atkins is super hard....
after i did it for a couple months a slice of bread would have me drooling....
not to mention when i would be walking to work passing by all these bakeries with mongo cinnamon buns the size of someones head in the window, that i've never even had the slightest desire to eat before or after that diet were like sirens calling to me.....craziness! i would be checking them out like they were those hottie abercrombie and fitch models...

anything too extreme is going to just lead to mental problems....at least for me

Get with the Program is geared more to the emotional issues of why we over-eat. He mostly has you examining why you want food and trys to get you started working out. If I remember right, he doesn't have a real structured diet in there. I just read his new book about food, that is kind of a companion to Get with the Program and it has alot of good info, but again, not a real structured diet. And maybe that's a good thing.. I think so, because everyone is different.

I should add that you can read all about the program over on the Oprah site before you buy the book. That way you will know what you are getting. They also have a board there, but it is not as good as this one. In fact, I find it a little depressing.

.Hi everyone,I'm new here .. I love this forum style. I live over a bakery and from six A.M. all I smell is BREAD and meatballs ..It is an Italian bakery! At least I can eat meatballs on low carb. But I find it hard to follow any one diet...so I take what I like from all of them .I try to stay under 60 or70 carbs per day ,and I have lost 7 lbs in 3 weeksI still have about 40 lbs to go .Wish me luck

FlyingFit, you missed his point - diet is temporary we need to do lifestyle changes and for that you have to learn to live with food, eat properly and make healthy changes you will keep forever. Diets are useless - 95% of the people who go on a diet gain it all back. Lifestyle changes are permanent...weight lost and keep off!
