Do you have health insurance? You're going to need to lift to build muscle (or to preserve muscle while you're cutting), and if you're working around an injury, that can be tough. One thing that was really helpful to me when dealing with injuries was to bring in a physical therapist. They're great at teaching you ways that you can work around an injury or lift without making an existing problem worth. They're expensive, but again, if you have insurance, you can usually get it covered.
A lot of people find better results with free weights as compared to machines. There are some great posts on this in our "Exercise" forum, but essentially, free weights require you to use more stabilizing muscles, which make the exercises more challenging. Something to consider!
If you're working on cutting, what does your diet look like? We have forums for calorie counting, for other plans, so look around. Weight loss is often said to be 80% diet and 20% exercise...so if you've got the exercise going on, what does your diet look like? What does a sample eating day look like? Are you counting calories?
