Im new howdy ladies.

  • Hi,

To start off i am FTM transgender I have been on hormones ( T) for almost 10 months. Before hormone therapy i was at 127 now almost 10 months later i am 142. i know most of the weight gain is muscle and even though people think im skinny id still like to lose weight and get myself maybe a 6 pack. i think the most problems i have is with my diet.
I want to lose 20-30 lbs my height is 5"1
  • Hey Coheni -

First off, hormones can really mess with your scale for a while, so you want to make sure you're fairly level before jumping to conclusions. That said, the extra T will definitely provide you a boost in building muscle.

What sort of diet plan are you on? Are you trying to build muscle, or to lose fat? Those might require different proportions in your diet.

Stick around and keep posting - can't wait to get to know you better!
  • Thanks!! I am trying to Cut but still gain muscle so but mainly trying to cut alot.
My diet plan well thats what i have trouble with i love to eat esp. since starting T. T has been good to me though before T i couldnt even run a mile without stopping now i did a 5K last summer without stopping. My exercise plan i think is going OK I do mostly cardio. What i typically do is run 3 laps rest then run 3 more. the track isnt that big though so i might add some other things in. As far as weight training i am not doing much i hurt both my shoulders when i was in the us Army and i got a tear in both of them so i am kinda scared what i can and cannot do. ive been using weight machines though i like them. Today i used them for the first time i lifted 50lbs 10 times on a machine and it actually felt good and no pain i am thinking about still doing that. or maybe i can use actual weights. i dont know yet.
  • Do you have health insurance? You're going to need to lift to build muscle (or to preserve muscle while you're cutting), and if you're working around an injury, that can be tough. One thing that was really helpful to me when dealing with injuries was to bring in a physical therapist. They're great at teaching you ways that you can work around an injury or lift without making an existing problem worth. They're expensive, but again, if you have insurance, you can usually get it covered.

A lot of people find better results with free weights as compared to machines. There are some great posts on this in our "Exercise" forum, but essentially, free weights require you to use more stabilizing muscles, which make the exercises more challenging. Something to consider!

If you're working on cutting, what does your diet look like? We have forums for calorie counting, for other plans, so look around. Weight loss is often said to be 80% diet and 20% exercise...so if you've got the exercise going on, what does your diet look like? What does a sample eating day look like? Are you counting calories?
