Hi all, I've been on this diet now for a week and what can I say. . . . . . . .I'm loving it, lost a few lbs already, was doing lipotrim before and lost 2 stone just need to lose another stone and a half.
After weeks of not losing (lost 30 lbs on Light Life then a basic LowCarb), I decided I needed a change as I think my problem is the high fat dairy.
I LOVE the Low Carb plan as it really suits me, the most carb intolerant person in the UK. Other than on the Lighter Life period, I am never hungry on the LC plan... how good is that?
I am focussed and really want to lose this last stone, so I am hoping the SBD will rattle me off my plateau.
I love to cook and bake, so I am not afraid to whip up new recipes and prefer real food rather than bars and shakes. Other than Xmas and recent b-day. I have been off sugar since October and don't miss it. Can you have sugar-free squash? Any recipes and tips are welcomed!
Hey thought i would join in, ive been on south beach for 6 weeks now, i lost 7lbs in my first week then ive lost 2lbs each week after that, i love the south beach diet, my hubby has lost a lot of weight too, it is quite hard cooking what are sometimes quite complicated meals with having 3 young kids mithering all the time but i manage! im going to stick to this diet until ive lost all my baby weight then i will take what ive learnt and make evening meals using only fresh ingredients, i also have decided never to eat white potatoes again, they just make me bloated!
carbintolerant - no you cant drink fruit juice or eat any fruit (not even cordial) only water, the VERY occasional glass of diet soft drink and tea and coffee (with skimmed milk) are allowed, this is for the first 2 weeks after that just be careful of ur sugar intake, i am now eating fruit twice a day and i have an activia (fat free) yogurt in the evening so i feel like ive had a pudding!
Thank you! now I am getting somewhere. Since January, I have read two books and tried 2 LC plans and they are all different! drives you mad... one claims you have to eat the high fat items (butter, oil) and that you can have nuts and double cream, no milk, no lemon and the other will say, you can have nuts, milk, but no bacon.... ARRRGHGHGH! All I know, I stopped losing.
I assume when you say "cordial", you mean, sugar-free squash ? I drink 4 litres of water a day and sometimes, it is nice to add a flavour. And is it one cup of tea a day? soya OK or skinny milk?
I will get the SBD book this week, just wanted the basic understanding of how it works as this is my life plan, not a diet.
I am hoping the recipes are made from real food?
On this forum, how do you stay in the UK? are we separated of is this just the UK thread?
carb intolerant - yeah i mine squash, u can have nuts on the south beach diet, but u really need to read the book as there is different allowances for different types of nuts, for instance u can have 15 cashew nuts in a day, also u can have cheese, but it has to be low fat cheese, i buy lowlow cheese as its below the fat requirement for cheese on the diet (you can have 30g of lowlow a day) BUT i tend to only have things like cheese and nuts a couple of times a week as any amount of it if eaten everyday will cause weight gain or plateau.
I bought THE SOUTH BEACH DIET - SUPERCHARGED! from amazon for just over £4 and it is my bible lol! honestly i would say before attempting the diet u need to have the book to ensure u are doing properly, this is not a fad diet, it is a lifestyle change to enable u to make the right food choices after u have lost weight, im already a massive fan
Remember to check out the South Beach part of the site. There are lots of hints, recipes and other information there including food lists.
Summer squash (zucchini, spaghetti and pattypan) is allowed on Phase I but others are Phase II.
I used Low Low cheese as a Weight Watchers,so I know it's good (tastes like cheese). I can take or leave nuts, they are a nice nibbly food if you want "a little something" (as Pooh bear would say). I am not aware of your diet history, but I think we are on the same page. I want to eat nice things without dieting. I didn't realise what an issue I had with carbs (sugar) until I started my LC lifestyle, no wonder my weight yo-yoed.
Done for the day here at grind stone - off on Hols for a few days. I am hoping my next entry will be a WOO HOO for a weight loss. Thanks for your help - keep losing.
Day 4 of Phase 1 and so far so good! Not hungry and have energy. What a relief to find a plan that is healthy. Other plans I tried were very heavy on the fat and dairy which worried me and prevented me from losing.
Started on Monday, felt very tired all day, but was Tigger by Tuesday. I will weigh in on Monday, but I can tell that something good is happening already.
I did get the Supercharged book and love the recipes - that Turkey Meatloaf is scrummy and makes a change from a salad.

So glad you are enjoying the diet, it does teach you how make better decisions about your food, i was the same for a couple of days, i was very tired and hungry, but my mum came to stay a couple of weeks ago (shes here till the end of this month) and she noticed how much energy i had, im now about 8 weeks in, ive gone from a uk size 20 to size 14, ive still got a long way to go but im a lot happier, i even bought myself some new makeup to celebrate! as time goes on you will be able to make variations of the recipes that are still on plan so u dont get bored, ive checked out the recipes on the SB part of the site but (and no offense intended) as im a bit of a control freak (my hubby calls me the diet police!) i wont use them as the ones i come up with myself i know they are ok to use! so good luck with the rest of phaseI and let me know how you get on, on your weigh in day, so excited for you!!
Wow! size 20 to 14 is great!! and I can spend half a day in the cosmetic department in John Lewis - so many pretty things. I have grown my own nails, so I treat myself to nail varnish when I reach a goal.
We (other half is doing SBD with me) didn't have too bad of a SBD detox as I have been low carb since Oct. I still haven't weighed in as we agreed Monday (18th) as that will be the whole 14 days of Phase 1. Watch this space. ... think my tum is flatter....
Recipe Ideas - I am a transplanted American living in the UK, so I know how to make the US recipes, we just don't have the ingredients here and the measurements are different (e.g. how many grams in a 'half can'). Should we start a UK/European recipe page?
Last question slim, how do I add a photo to my profile?
Thanks for your support !
Like you, I cook happily with 'real' food, but I do like any helpful hints that are out there e.g. add low fat cream cheese to soup to thicken it.
Wow I forgot about this thread, didn't think anyone from the U.K was on it
Good to see your all doing well on the diet, I'm almost at my goal, I tried the peanut butter cookies and they are really nice after they have been cooled in the fridge, has anyone tried them yet???
