Default OK this is dumb, but...

I'm asking anyway. I kinda get trash talk for my workout attire. I dress the part; wicking fabrics, sports bra, special shoes, I even have a workout jacket to wear. I kind of get crap for that, but I have an issue with wearing my normal everyday coat after a sweaty workout.

How many of you have special workout attire different from the normal Tshirt and sweats? Or wear a jacket only for workouts to the gym in cold weather to avoid having to wear your good coat home? I just feel more energetic if I have the fabrics on that support my goals. Thoughts?

I am also super germaphobic, so I won't use gym weights/mats unless I have to. I bring my own. I get crap for that, too. The other day I had to use the gym mat and I felt gross getting in my car. I feel like my car is contaminated now. Am I overreacting? I am the only one lugging around my gym bag with all my gear. Everyone else seems free as a bird not carrying anything in with them.

Yes, I have OCD. I realize that. Tell me about your attire, quircks, etc. Come on, make me feel better.

Who's giving you crap?

I try to wear wicking workout clothes, good sports bras, good sneaks... I see it as a fitness need. If I were bowling, I'd need a bowling ball. If I were a once in a while bowler, ok, using the lane ones is good enough. But if I was a regular bowler I'd want my own.

So if the gym thing is once in a great while, sure, making do with whatever cotton t-shirt and cotton shorts would do. But if a regular -- who wouldn't want the nicer gym clothes?

A.

I have a different outfit for every workout! Sports bras, fancy sweat-wicking shirts, jackets, sneakers, everything. And I've seen a ton of people bring their own mats to class. It's more sanitary!! You are totally normal.

I'm too broke to go out and buy wicked workout clothing, but if I had the money your damn right I'd be all pimped out in awsome clothing haha.

I have no money for nice clothes... and it's hard to find sweats that fit... just because I have long legs. I have a pair of yoga pants I love... BUT... there's at least two inches too short on my legs. So... I wear cheap sweat shorts and t-shirts I got for free.

If I had the money though... I'd so be doing what y'all do.

Anyone who's saying trash about what you do is just plain jealous.

I have special clothes (including a special jacket). I don't think there's anything about it to make fun of... I think it's smart. Personally, I like work out clothes because they make me feel more productive (*ducks*)

I don't wear anything but a tshirt, sweats and walking shoes but I do all my workouts at home, so it doesn't matter. But, aside from that, what you wear and use to workout is your own business. If that is what helps you get the job done, then do it! Tell those other people...SHUSH!

Okay, I have special sports bras, wicking fabrics, just bought new running shoes that I don't put on until I get into the gym. (Not that I won't run outside when it gets warm, but I don't want to track snow/water/mud into the gym). I also have a special workout coat that I put on under my winter coat. And yes the winter coat is different then my everyday winter coat. I don't know about you but I sweat a lot when I work out, and I don't want my regular coat to smell. I do use the equipment there but wash my hands before I leave.

I don't have anything fancy because I don't want to spend that much money and then do it again when those are too big and again and again, I can't stand for my gym clothes to be baggy, so I have to replace frequently. I do have clothes that I got specifically for the gym though, and a hoodie that is my gym hoodie. I even have separate towels that are for taking to the gym, I'm even crazy enough that I buy towels in colors that match my gym outfits. I also make sure I have good shoes and socks. I see nothing wrong with having appropriate attire/equipment.

I work out at the gym on my lunch hour, I don't have the time to change, given the drive back and forth, so I wear my jeans, t-shirt and my comfy shoes.

Don't get me wrong here, when I'm at home, I put on my yoga outfit, that I love and get into it.

I just have to do what works for me.

I wear pretty much whatever I can find. Normally sweats or yoga pant and throw-away t-shirts. If I had the money, I would totally buy fancy work-out gear.

OTOH, I go to the gym in my work clothes, change into sweats and then put on normal clothes to leave, post shower. So what I'm wearing at the gym doesn't really matter much to me

I wonder who is giving you such a hard time? Is it the gym employees? I think workout clothes is definitely a money issue because you know you are going to be losing weight, so usually the investment is less. When I would go I would wear a tee-shirt and some sweats (and my own towel). Honestly, the only thing I put more money into was the shoes so I wouldn't fall off the treadmill.

I just wear a tshirt and workout-like shorts (and do it at home).

But I totally get what you're saying, about how it makes you feel more energetic to have fabric to match your goals ... that's part of it for you. That's great.

I don't have that with clothing, but I have that with other things. I'm very careful about the notebook where I log my plans, daily calories, cardio and weights. The pen color even has to be consistent. I think that (especially early on) if my notebook wasn't so "nice," I'd feel adrift.

I don't think any of that is strange because I do it all too (I even fold my yoga mat in half before I roll it up so that the floor side doesn't touch my side). I don't understand why people feel it necessary to rag on people just because they are slightly different. It annoys me to no end. Tell 'em to jump in a lake!

I don't think that's strange at all! I don't have lots of super fancy workout clothing (though I did get some workout-intended long underwear at Christmas to wear on my winter jogs), but I definitely have clothes that I've set aside for exercise. And that includes a fleece that I only wear while jogging! I wonder why you're the only one you know with separate workout gear. It seems perfectly reasonable to me.
