About a week ago, I was at Walmart buying some food. In the front of one of the clothing racks, I saw a Danskin shirt in a lovely shade of purple, marked medium (8/10). I didn't have time to try it on, but I went back a few days later to see how it would fit.
Currently, I have absolutely no idea how big or small I am--I'm hoping I'll get more of a sense of that over the next year or so. This 8/10 looked impossibly small, but I decided to take it to the fitting room to try it on. Lo and behold, it fit perfectly.
So I don't know if I'm an 8 or a 10 (and I understand that can vary by brand), but I've bought my first 8/10 medium. Is it incredibly geeky of me that I'm saving the tag?
I'll post a picture of myself wearing it when I get to goal, which I'm hoping will be in December some time.
Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I posted some photos when I got to 155 and will post more when I get to goal.
There's always a part of me that wonders if some people read threads like this and think "I have so far to go, I'll never get there". But I hope there's also a component of "well, they did it, maybe I can do it, too". I'm 49 with PCOS and a history of yo-yo dieting; it's taken me 22 1/2 months to lose 112 pounds, so I expect to be able to say "I lost 115 pounds in 2 years". More importantly, I think I have the tools to see me into and through maintenance (fingers crossed).
